Carolee is older than Liz. Liz is only 18/19 (by my estimation) while, I think, Carolee is at least in her late 20s (maybe even 30ish). Carolee Campbell was 31 when these episodes were taped. Carolee marries (a couple of years from now) Dan Allison who already has a young son named Billy. When Dan dies (I won't spoil the story), Carolee gets Billy to raise, which she and Steven eventually do together. This is why Billy's full name is often given as Billy Allison Aldrich.

Liz was listening to "I've Got My Mojo Working" by Jimmy Smith on the radio today in the 2nd half hour. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBFmFygqllc

I was laughing today when Steve (while on the phone) kept trying to touch the newly engaged nurse on the hand & she kept pulling away until she silently stuck her hand up in his face & flashed him her engagement ring to which is nonchalantly (and rather dryly) muttered "Very nice." lol

I still hold out hope that some of the shorter-lived 60s/70s soaps that were produced by non-P&G or the networks might survive out there somewhere (like Return to Peyton Place, which was a 20th Century Fox production, I think) in a warehouse waiting to be discovered. In my wildest dreams, Where the Heart Is is out there because I've always wanted to see it, but there is virtually NOTHING available and nothing readily accessible online. I want to see Rue McClanahan's character run down her brother because he wouldn't be in love with her.

When implored by the announcer to stay tuned to Another World, in color, this is what we'd be staying tuned for (according to the AW Home Page) after the last two aired episodes... DECEMBER 28, 1967 (EP. #901) Abandoned in the hallway after Lee ran off, Dru met Lahoma and quickly appreciated her sound sense. Alice showed Mary the wedding photos and related that the new couple were ecstatically happy. It was a blow to Mary when Russ revealed he gave Rachel a ring. Lahoma wouldn't break Lee's confidences by telling Dru about her invented emotional injuries, but filled him in on Sam and Lefty. When Ada worried about Sam, Rachel was glad she would soon be married and out of this whole business. When Mary worried he was still just an intern, Russ, who said he paid for the ring from the money his grandfather left him, felt Rachel would be reconciled to waiting for a more suitable time to marry now that she had a ring. Alice let Mary know that Rachel wouldn't be content with a marriage similar to hers and Jim's. Ada managed to formally congratulate Russ. Rachel offered to give a miserable Russ his ring back when he wouldn't agree to marry right away. When she tearily begged him to marry her, he agreed. DECEMBER 29, 1967 (EP. #902) Dru met Sam, who'd brought hamburgers for Lee. At the opera, Lenore fretted that Lee accused her of slumming when she visited, but Walter felt she was worth a battalion of Lee Randolphs. Sam and Dru impressed each other with their insights into Lee's character. At The Trip, Lefty apologized to Lee for arriving late, saying he was busy earning a little scratch. The camera panned past them and through as bizarre a collection of characters as the budget allowed to Sam and Dru entering the door. Sam and Dru peered at the bulletin board on which parents put photos of their missing children. A man got upset when a girl recognized his daughter's picture but refused to squeal on her. Lefty felt it was a big honor to meet one of the biggest lawyers in town, although Dru joked this was only true when he was standing sideways. Dru made Lefty self-conscious when he tried to impress everyone with what a big shot he was. In a dream sequence: Lenore wore a bridal veil and walked slowly down a surrealistic aisle; Fred officiated; Liz objected to the ceremony; Bill arrived, with a flower in his buttonhole like Walter at the altar, and said he didn't love Missy; Lee railed at her for her hypocrisy; Lenore's eyes shone as Bill told her he loved her; she happily married Bill only to find it was Walter she'd married. Lenore awoke in tears after everyone shouted she was a hypocrite and a liar.

Let me tell you what, if anyone had any doubts why they expanded Carolee Campbell's role, they shouldn't after that utterly spellbinding performance she gave when Carolee told Liz about her first kiss. She made me smile, warmed my heart, and then broke it all in one scene. IMO, seeing Carolee Campbell as Carolee Simpson has been one of the biggest revelations for me with these episodes. Also, I'm beginning to wonder if this is the very beginning of the role being expanded beyond that of regular background nurse because it does seem like she's being given more and more to do. And I do wonder if that scene where Steve and Carolee meet for the first time and he calls her by her first name is the first time viewers ever actually heard Miss Simpson's first name.

According to Jason47's page, DAYS (which immediately preceded The Doctors on the NBC schedule) was preempted on January 1, 1968 for football. I say that it is safe to assume that The Doctors was preempted as well, so Monday's first episode of 1968 should probably be the Tuesday, January 2, 1968, episode (#1325).

Noel (I think that's what Carolee called him) the orderly looks SO familiar. I know who he LOOKS like, but it can't be him because he was already on (and had been on for YEARS) a prime time sitcom at that point.

I simply ADORED the Christmas episode! When Matt turned to the audience at the end to wish the audience a Merry Christmas & then they played O Christmas Tree under the credits, I got a little misty eyed. And then there was ALL of that drama in the first half hour. A pivotal PIVOTAL episode that will receive MUCH fallout.

My god, but I've fallen in love with this show. Steve's casual flirtation with Carolee today was all kinds of charming. And I simply don't think I can get enough of Matt & Maggie's playful snarking at one another.

They should be thanking them because as a result of that, I just went and bought that full theme song for "The Doctors" off of amazon.

We came close to getting the sponsor credit after the opening today. They left only the tiniest bit of the announcer in after the epigram.

I was just looking at a TV Guide interview with Pamela Toll (really just the 1st page of a scan of the article for the issue that's up for sale on ebay) from around the time Somerset premiered and it mentioned that she was 21 (making her about 18 in 1967) and that she did, in fact, leave The Doctors to join the premiere cast of Somerset. She also described Liz as very naive & with her head in the sand. At least the opinion of the character at the time hasn't changed. lol Also, for point of reference, I believe the Christmas 1967 episode should be airing this Wednesday during the 2nd half hour.

Ugh. I'm so upset. I caught the 2nd episode today through the live stream (which only shows the second ep), but thanks to a live tweeter & heard that Liz/Althea had a bit of a dust up today about Nick and I couldn't wait to get home from work to see the episode. I have been waiting to see this all freaking day. *ugh*

Considering that The Doctors aired immediately after DAYS, I feel it may be safe to assume that any time DAYS was pre-empted for whatever reason, DOC would be pre-empted as well. Consquently, thanks to Jason47's DAYS pre-emption list, we can guess that The Doctors will be pre-empted on the following dates...

I love how snarky the characters can be. Althea is almost mocking of Liz while Maggie is so utterly dry and blunt. Matt is gruff and no-nonsense. Nick is just a rough and tumble ass. John is rather arrogant and judgmental, yet rather endearing in his scenes with Polly (who really is a kook!). And that first meeting between Steve & Carolee!!! OMG! Steve is just SO charming and smooth while Carolee is INSTANTLY smitten, endearing, and oh so adorable (I chuckled when she got flustered over Steve and accidentally smacked that other nurse in the face with that folder). The only ones who don't really seem to fit are Bill & Ruth because they seem so detached from the rest of the drama.

I'd guessed that Matt laying into Nick was the start of the second episode since that seemed to be the natural episode break. A poster at DR said he'd been in contact by phone with the CEO of SFM Entertainment (who currently holds the distribution rights to the show) agreed that (in the CEO's own words) there was a "huge" market for the show and that he said the show would definitely be released on DVD in the future. The poster also said the CEO said they would be talking to the people at RetroTV about a way to get the show to more people. SFM seems REALLY committed to The Doctors. Color me shocked and cautiously hopeful. That said, I remember a decade ago when it was announced that the show had been licensed to Hallmark and it's taken this long to actually see the light of day (on a completely different channel).

And almost the very first thing he does when he arrives at Hope Memorial is flirt with Carolee, who at this point is STILL pretty much only a background nurse known solely as "Nurse Simpson". Talk about foreshadowing of things to come!

Pleading my OCD, do you know how the synopsis is split between the episodes? More importantly... STEVE ALDRICH! It's the first appearance of David O'Brien!!! Also, I never knew that Steve (and by connection, Jason, etc.) was John Rice's cousin. That's a factoid that I don't think has ever been revealed anywhere.

I'm wondering if it's a rights issue for the affiliate. RetroTV has repeatedly stated that they don't have streaming rights. I've also seen at least one douchemonkey on their facebook page who seems to have made it his mission to rat out every live streaming affiliate he can find. In regards to the user recording episodes, but not uploading them to youtube, I can understand their concerns over the youtube nazis. A workaround, however, might be to upload them, set them to "private" (so that they don't pop up in any general youtube search or for just any user) and then provide viewing links to just the people they screen. In any event, I'll take anything I can get. These episodes were thought lost for decades and haven't seen the light of day for over 45 years. I'm tickled just to see/hear/read ANYTHING.

The stream was just working for Crosswords and the CBN News (which the channel replaces the noon airing of DOC with). However, now that channel is "off line". Grrrrr....
