  1. Box Office: 'Green Book' Scores Biggest Post-Oscar Bump in 8 Years
  2. Yeah, I agree with what you're saying, that ratings also depends the type of movies that are nominated, movies that general audiences will go see. Also, look at the release dates for those three big movies. BP: February 16. BR: November 2. ASIB: October 5. Lots of time for people to check out those movies. Oscars 2020: How Netflix Plans to Win Best Picture With Scorsese's Mob Drama
  3. Really? That's ridiculous. How are people suppose to care about an awards show if they haven't seen those nominated movies? I think that also plays a factor in ratings. For me, I saw 4 out of the 8 Best Picture nominees, and 3 of them were in the last week before the Oscars.
  4. I like the idea of movies from streaming companies having to spend a certain period of time (2 months maybe?) in the theatres, before moving them to their streaming platform, for it to be considered for the Oscars. Also, what about moving the Oscars (and other awards) back a month? It would give people more time to see more movies, especially those that are released just before the cut off date in December.
  5. Just glad it wasn’t Black Panther.
  6. Yes! Olivia Colman with the upset! Once again her speech was great and funny. I love her British kookiness and humour.
  7. I haven't seen any of them. LOL @Faulkner I'll spoiler tag your post in case there's someone like me. I guess I'll watch for how that person gets there then.
  8. @Faulkner Um.....is that major spoiler? I was planning on watching ASIB this weekend. 😬
  9. Usually, there's 1-3 favourites who take the lead in the race after the guilds, but this year's Best Picture is so unpredictable. I'm kind of uncomfortable with Black Panther winning because it got shut out in all the major categories (writing, directing, acting). Does a movie deserve to win if they didn't even get one nomination on those categories? For me, it's a no. And in the technical categories, it didn't get a nomination for Best Film Editing or Cinematography which, IMO, are the two biggest technical awards. I agree with those who said if that you're gonna cut some categories, cut the shorts. I also like the idea of merging the sound editing and sound mixing. Here are my predictions: Best Picture: Roma Best Director: Alfonso Cuarón - Roma Best Actor: Rami Malek - Bohemian Rhapsody Best Actress: Glenn Close- The Wife Best Supporting Actor: Mahershala Ali - Green Book Best Supporting Actress: Regina King – If Beale Street Could Talk Best Original Screenplay: Green Book – Written by Nick Vallelonga, Brian Currie and Peter Farrelly Best Adapted Screenplay: BlacKkKlansman – Screenplay by Charlie Wachtel & David Rabinowitz and Kevin Willmott & Spike Lee Best Animated Feature Film: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Best Original Score: Isle of Dogs – Alexandre Desplat Best Original Song: "Shallow" from A Star Is Born – Music and Lyrics by Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt

  11. My girl. I follow her very closely, so these views aren't surprising. She is socially liberal. I thought the pressure on her to speak out was very unfair. I think people should speak out whenever they feel like it, not because pressure. I'm glad she spoke out in a respectful and articulate way. I knew I chose the right one to be all time favourite. Okay, back to lurking. PS. Fuck Kavanaugh. And other PS, thanks to everyone who posts links to news, or news from Twitter - this thread is my go to place for finding what's happening politically.
  12. Congrats to Naomi being the first Japanese woman to win a grand slam. I didn't get to see the match but saw the highlights. The way Naomi plays, wow, I think she could be tennis' next big thing. I know it's just one grand slam, but I think she *could* be Serena's heir apparent. It really sucks that this win for her was overshadowed with controversy. I never understand why players can't get coaching - to have communication. Coaching is a big part of sports and I wish tennis would change this rule.
  13. Djoker! Can't believe the big three are still going strong like this, when it was suppose to be done years ago. The next wave isn't here yet!
  14. Wow, surprised Serena lost. I just caught the last game - I missed both matches today. I do like the idea of going to tie-breaks after 10-10 in the 5th set.
  15. Finally!! Agreed that this Wimbledon 5th set rule is ridiculous. Gotta change it. Isner looks like Justin Hartley.
  16. Well considering his career was supposed to be over years ago, what’s happening now, and in recent years, is a plus. Tennis players don’t usually last this long. If you were Roger you’d take the most money too. Can’t blame him for taking the deal. And when you’re the best, you’re going to get pimped. Look at Serena. The two GOATS deserve it and have earned it.
  17. Damn. Can’t believe Roger blew a two set lead. 😥 No Federer vs Nadal in the final. That’s the match most people wanted to see, to see two of the greatest going against each other, possibly for the last time. I guess the champion will be decided in the semis with Joker vs Nadal.
  18. So all the big categories went pretty much as expected - there were no upsets. Before the Golden Globes, I don't remember seeing Frances McDormand in interviews/talk shows, so I never knew she had this huge personality. Now every time I see her I like her more and more. I just love her personality, her speech pattern, the way she talks, her body movements.....she's just this out-there-likeable character. Frances asking all the nominated women to stand up was amazing. I think Shape Of Water is the first science-fiction film to win Best Picture (I consider LOTR: ROTK fantasy). I want to see it since it's a love story and I like the Alexander Desplait's score. I liked the movie theater bit. It was a nice fun moment. And the end with the jet ski. Tiffany Haddish and Maya were hilarious. So glad they started the show at 8pm EST. They should do this every year.
  19. So the acting categories are pretty much set though I wonder if there will be at least one upset. 3 Billboards and Shape Of Water are the two leading for Best Picture - can Get Out catch them down the stretch? Guillermo Del Toro is in the lead for Best Director with Jordan Peele behind him.
  20. Happy for Roger! #20! It's amazing, at his age, that he's still winning grand slams.
  21. https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/8039676/taylor-swift-reputation-album-sells-12-million-copies-us https://www.yahoo.com/music/chart-watch-taylor-swift-sells-1-million-copies-fourth-time-205945831.html https://www.forbes.com/sites/brittanyhodak/2017/11/20/taylor-swifts-reputation-outsold-every-other-album-on-the-billboard-200-combined/#584d94d15fac - 1.216 million copies in its first week - 4th straight album with one million - it took 4 days to become 2017's best selling album - it outsold every other album on the Billboard 200 combined So 'reputation' sold 71,000 less than '1989' which is really awesome considering sales have declined even more since 2014, and when you factor in that there was no media blitz like there was with '1989'. I really believe if she promoted the album like '1989' (going on talks shows, performing more, doing a ton of radio/tv/print interviews), it would've easily been her best first week.
  22. Awesome numbers! I believe 1989 had 600k. It will be close to beating Oops....I Did It Again and 1989’s first week.
  23. I love the mixture of pop-R&B-hiphop on the album. Taylor’s always said she’d do something different with every album. She didn’t play it safe by making 1989-part-two. I’ll post more about the songs in a week or so after listening to them 50+ times. lol. But the two songs I’m listening to the most are “End Game” and “Getaway Car” which should be singles. I also really like "Dress." Projections for album sales look phenomenal! Hope the one million+ numbers turn out to be true.
  24. There’s no deluxe version for this album.
  25. I'll spoiler tag it since I hate posting big pictures, and I'll also post the speculations in the tag:
