I thought you might be happier Sylph.
I know you should be careful what you wish for but I'm glad he's going. His stories may have juiced up the ratings and of course that's what matters most these days but in the long run it wasn't worth character-destroying stories that always hang in the background even after their half-hearted resolutions, such as Tanya burying Max alive, Archie the multiple rapist, Lauren running over Max, Stacey who let her boyfriend die for her murder, etc.

I've read now that he said he would, but not in the near future.
I was actually trying to be restrained about Tanya. I just cannot stand the smugness. This character has no reason to be smug, considering her background and the circumstances of her relationships, yet it is her default mode. If they actually explored that, fine, but instead, it's usually just bedhopping.You are right.
It is as if they took a (wrong) turn with the character and never got her back on the right path. It all just... decomposed.0 -

Why is this Sarah Phelps so great?
She was one of the best writers to ever write for the show, and even when the show was going through a creatively bankrupt period in the mid 00's, her scripts were often considered to be the saving grace of that era.

Ben disagreed with me, but I have to repeat it: even when this show was dismal and stories terrible, the daily scripts were often great. Above average. You can always rely on EE people to write a decent, good script.

I don't know, Carl. I'm still laughing, uncontrollably. It's as if for all this time he's been marketing himself and he finally succeeded in someone hiring him.
Usually these things go very well in the beginning, there's lots of this greeeat, 'shocking' stories, but by the end of the run, things fizzle out and all that's left is a bad rep.
We'll see.
