  1. That's just plum crazy. What kind of idiots want ghost guns out there? I imagine this particular shooter could have come up with a gun another way, but why make it easier for people who are actually smart to make a gun without a serial number? I wonder why he didn't dump the gun? This is going to be an interesting case when the facts come out.
  2. Probably. There was a time, somewhere around 2015 when I would have considered this immoral. Now, I don't care. After everything Biden has been through and everything Trump has done (including pardoning Ivanka's father in law) I just can't get upset about it. Norms have been shattered and will continue to be shattered for the foreseeable future.
  3. Of course! Who didn't see squeezing poor people would be their #1 goal. Gaetz didn't want any part of the scrutiny that was coming his way.
  4. 😂 They might be a step up from what we are getting. This is beyond the pale.
  5. I think a lot of people feel this well. Hell, my own psychiatrist basically said that she is accepting that this is just who people are and Trump voters are about to be in a world of hurt. Watching Trump voters say that he isn't going to deport their undocumented family members because they work hard is so sad. He can't deport everyone, but many people are going to be randomly going to be caught in the ICE net. @WendyI'm sorry for your loss. What a god awful couple of weeks. Thank you for the answer. I completely understand how you feel about watching the news.
  6. Reading that the majority of Latinos don't like it is what stopped me from starting to use it. Overall, I'm going to use the identity terms the person I'm talking to prefer. I draw the line at stuff like "menstruating person". Just, no. Was there a riot in Sweden this weekend? I saw something on X, but I didn't see details. I did see Amsterdam is dealing with riots with "Jews are a cancer" as one slogan, while police are being attacked. I remember when people spoke Sweden and Norway as ideal societies. Hopefully, you can get that back soon.
  7. I completely agree. I've always help a place in my heart for academia, but they've gone off the rails. The Jew hate and the hatred of the West is out of control. We should deport anyone here on a student visa that gets violent. We have enough homegrown problems without importing people that hate the Jews and the West. Also, the language policing of people that are on our side has got to go. I agree that language is important and respecting people is important, but we have to do that without sounding like elite nutcases to everyday people or we are sunk.
  8. What a horrific thought. There are so many children in that awful place. I do think there are Israelis who would try to stop this even now, but I'm not sure they can reign in BiBi anymore than our left can control Trump. As for American Jewish women, I'm not sure I've met a group of people more dedicated to social justice for everyone. Even the day after 10/7, women were commenting to me how much they hoped the innocent people in Gaza would be spared. I'm just not built like that. It takes me a lot longer to see the bigger picture.
  9. Good Lord. There is basically a pogrom happening in Amsterdam right now. I really never thought I would live to see this happening in Europe. Again. I'm not even going to try to embed a link.
  10. Thank you for the perspective Carl. It really is worrying that the GOP has such appeal to young men. Personally, I think more people care about the trans sports issue than you might expect. I for one, do not like seeing women and girls lose opportunity to actual men or women who transitioned after going through make puberty. I think there are a lot of suburban girl parents who feel the same way. I don't even care about sports, but I don't want to see a woman decked by a biological male in the olympics (or anywhere). Also, I do believe in trans rights quite strongly. Oh, don't worry about that. President Vance is on standby. 🤮
  11. I'll miss you @Vee. You've kept this thread going for a long time. I'm sorry to hear about your health condition. I hope you decide to come back when/if it feels right.
  12. It looks like black and Jewish women are the ones that stayed firm for Harris. I'm a little surprised that Republicans made so many inroads with Gen Z. I also want to know what happened with NY and New Jersey.
  13. It really is incredibly f*cked up. He's going to have a much easier time now that all the branches of government are Republicans.
  14. Black women make up 7%of the population. Of course they can't do it alone. The majority of people chose a wanna be dictator. I have no idea what to do with that or where we (Democrats) go from here. Part of me feels like Wendy. Let the suffering begin. If he does half of what he's promised even upper middle class people are going to be feeling the pain. Say goodbye to your 401ks and social security/medicare you bastards. I won't feel this way in a week or two, but right now I do.
  15. This is my only remaining hope. With any luck most of his insane promises are lies. I am hoping his corporate overlords will stop him from trying mass deportation and tariffs.
  16. Truth. I do think many people need to try to understand in order to process though. I'm trying to finally accept that a lot of men and women do not want equality between the sexes. I find it a bitter pill to swallow, but do think it's one of the things I'm taking away from this race.
  17. I hope this isn't true. I can hardly imagine a more self defeating action. Plus I'm not sure there are enough normies who care about this issue. For my part, I was horrified to see what was going on at US universities. So many cases of plagiarism among professors and so many professors who sound downright nuts. Then all the protests that were not completely organic with people screaming death to America. Plus a ton of those students seem unhinged and easily influenced by foreign propaganda. For my part I think it was the economy, sexism and racism. Also, a backlash to feminism.
  18. Smart. It was alcohol and leftover Halloween candy for me, so of course I paid the price this morning.
  19. I think this is understandable and okay. As long as you are not a problem drinker. I'm guessing many of us turned to alcohol last night.
  20. You aren't annoying. I expect this thread will turn into a support group like it did in 2016. Most of us here are devastated. I had some real hope, but I'm no where near as shocked as I was in 2016.
  21. It really is awful.
  22. I can't believe it.
  23. Dear Lord, please do not let the Republicans get full control of our government.
  24. Just that it's going to be close is horrific.
