I had wondered what the “special“ would be about. I haven’t yet heard anything about John McCook retiring. I don’t think there are any major character anniversaries this year either.

The requester on Kimberlin’s pass is apparently the casting director for Bold, for what its worth.

Y&R: Cricket and Nina, Sharon and Dru
B&B: Stephanie and Sally (also an iconic rivalry), Brooke and Sheila (which obviously didn’t last)

Tammin Sursok who was woefully miscast as Colleen Carlton on Y&R, couldn’t do an American accent to save her life.
My mind immediately went to her. Losing Adrienne Leon for Sursok was a raw deal.
I generally find Australian actors unconvincing as Americans. Ingo Rademacher didn’t fare much better as B&B’s Thorne.

I’ve never been able to figure out what she actually says either, but I always thought it was “You lie and cheat and treat me like an animal.”
Thanks for re-posting this clip; I can’t think of a more thrilling period of the show. All beats played to perfection, a Shakespearean play compared to today.

That is fair. And certainly TPTB wouldn’t have dared to recast. Still, with KSJ having passed and Olivia nowhere in sight there is a large hole in the Winters family I wish Dru were there to fill.

Sheila’s 2017 return started off pretty well but it became clear after a few months Bell didn’t really know what to do with her. By the time she became a busybody waitress it was clear there wasn’t much foresight or direction (unlike her previous returns, which varied in quality but all had a full narrative arc). The worst was when they had Sheila blab to Eric about seeing Katie with Wyatt—like, what? Then she just kind of disappeared. If Bell knew Kimberlin Brown was running for office he should have sent her out with a bang (literally).

I don’t recall Sheila and Massimo having a past...apart from a fling in 2002. I think the show has gradually deteriorated from its golden era in the early-mid 90s, but it remained mostly good up until 2003/2004, by which point Nick and Jackie ate up a lot of the show for years. Darlene Conley’s passing, the introduction of the horrible triangle, and Susan Flannery’s departure were just nail after nail in the coffin. The show has a decent cast but they are not used properly.

Sheila attempted to off herself twice on B&B, both by drinking poison and jumping off a roof.

Ivy Forrester replaced Steffy Forrester on B&B for a while. Xander was also a pretty obvious Zende stand-in.

Just curious MinnaH, your name Minna is common ladies name here in Finland, are you from Finland by any chance?
Haha, sadly I am not. I stole my username from a recurring character on Veep.

I do remember that Lauren was headed for a meeting with Victor the day she got taken to the farmhouse!

Loving the 2002 episodes. I watched most of these when they aired but never thought to tape them. Question: In the 8/21 episode, is that Chrishell Stause opposite JF’s Bridget?

Thomas I can agree with, but Sheila?
How do you think that Sheila Carter's character was assassinated? How do you even perform character assassination on a psychopath?
Last I checked she had gone from poisoning and shooting people to refilling water glasses...

For B&B, add Thomas Forrester and Sheila Carter to that list.

JT Hellstrom on Y&R
Sharon Newman on Y&R
Taylor Hamilton/Hayes on B&B

I never understood why, after dealing with Sheila for so many years, Lauren would want anything to do with whackjob Phyllis.

I think Phyllis had one scene with Lauren in 94/95, and they didn’t like each other very much? It was once online but not sure if it is now. Lauren and Ashley were both in the Terrible Tom storyline but not sure if they interacted much otherwise.

It has to have been at least 18 months since we saw Wayne Brady. I’m guessing if they edited out the departed cast members there would be almost no black people in the opening.

Two slaps for the price of one at 3:54.

I started watching as a young kid with my late grandfather in the early 90s. We had about 5-10 channels on the antenna and CBS seemed to be what was always on. I mainly recall watching Y&R and B&B. I loved all the characters but the Lauren/Sheila storyline was what got me hooked. Sheila terrified me as a kid. The last I recall from that time period was the infamous “goodbye party.” I think I started elementary school right after that because I don’t remember seeing her again until she returned in 2002. I still watched both shows during the summer, long after my grandfather passed, and particularly loved the Glo by Jabot teens in the early 2000s.
I occasionally watch because it’s fun to see characters I have “known” for 30 years but I don’t find the storylines very gripping. I returned to B&B full time when Sheila came back but we all know how that turned out. The classics were a godsend and I already miss them.

Y&R definitely had the most of these recurring/side characters. In addition to the ones named...Col. Austin, Glenn Richards, Molly Carter, Marjorie (Lauren’s secretary), Madame Chauvin, Doris Collins, Dr. Tim Reid...I’m sure there are many others. Edit: I’m pretty sure Esther qualifies too.
On B&B, they’ve had Maria (Stephanie’s maid), Jonathan, Lt. Baker, Megan, Mike Guthrie, Darla (for years at a time).

Since Sheila was brought up...have there been any updates on Kimberlin Brown’s visit to the studio? Supposedly it was for some sort of special, but I haven’t heard anything about it since.
