  1. I’ve never been able to figure out what she actually says either, but I always thought it was “You lie and cheat and treat me like an animal.”

Thanks for re-posting this clip; I can’t think of a more thrilling period of the show. All beats played to perfection, a Shakespearean play compared to today.

  2. Sheila’s 2017 return started off pretty well but it became clear after a few months Bell didn’t really know what to do with her. By the time she became a busybody waitress it was clear there wasn’t much foresight or direction (unlike her previous returns, which varied in quality but all had a full narrative arc). The worst was when they had Sheila blab to Eric about seeing Katie with Wyatt—like, what? Then she just kind of disappeared. If Bell knew Kimberlin Brown was running for office he should have sent her out with a bang (literally).

  3. I don’t recall Sheila and Massimo having a past...apart from a fling in 2002. I think the show has gradually deteriorated from its golden era in the early-mid 90s, but it remained mostly good up until 2003/2004, by which point Nick and Jackie ate up a lot of the show for years. Darlene Conley’s passing, the introduction of the horrible triangle, and Susan Flannery’s departure were just nail after nail in the coffin. The show has a decent cast but they are not used properly.

  4. I started watching as a young kid with my late grandfather in the early 90s. We had about 5-10 channels on the antenna and CBS seemed to be what was always on. I mainly recall watching Y&R and B&B. I loved all the characters but the Lauren/Sheila storyline was what got me hooked. Sheila terrified me as a kid. The last I recall from that time period was the infamous “goodbye party.” I think I started elementary school right after that because I don’t remember seeing her again until she returned in 2002. I still watched both shows during the summer, long after my grandfather passed, and particularly loved the Glo by Jabot teens in the early 2000s.

I occasionally watch because it’s fun to see characters I have “known” for 30 years but I don’t find the storylines very gripping. I returned to B&B full time when Sheila came back but we all know how that turned out. The classics were a godsend and I already miss them.

  5. Y&R definitely had the most of these recurring/side characters. In addition to the ones named...Col. Austin, Glenn Richards, Molly Carter, Marjorie (Lauren’s secretary), Madame Chauvin, Doris Collins, Dr. Tim Reid...I’m sure there are many others. Edit: I’m pretty sure Esther qualifies too.

On B&B, they’ve had Maria (Stephanie’s maid), Jonathan, Lt. Baker, Megan, Mike Guthrie, Darla (for years at a time).
