  1. Ahhh 2012, the last post classical year the show was (empahasis) remotely watchable. This is the latest point I'd care to see in these reruns.

Nikki vs Diane would be a better rivalry to air. As for Sheila versus Lauren, I'm sure the farmhouse episodes must come up at some point in the future.

I agree with the person earlier who stated that airing a different story arc each week would be better. Knowing CBS though, this is the best we might get. Enjoying these mostly classics which I never thought we'd get to see! For me the best episodes in these reruns have come out of 1998!

  2. Just saw the 1997 episode, one word —— budget!

Boy, Thudley has wasted lot of location shootings forgettable ping-pong Liam weddings has he not? Today's Liam & Hope wedding from 2012 in Puglia turned out to be illegal and he ended up remarrying Steffy anyways. Pathetic.

Agreed. They went through all that extravagance just to still write crap story lines. Well, if it lacks substance at least  the decoration is decent.

Glad we were able to see this one. I was looking forward more to this episode then any of the others.

I wish CBS would stick to airing older episodes. Can they not fathom how terrible the more modern content is?

  3. Todays 1998 episode was perhaps the best one this week! As much as I like 90s early 00s Michelle Stafford, I'm prepared to say Sandra Nelson is my favorite. I saw shades of her in Gina T.'s portrayal.

When they exhaust the theme weeks, a cool concept might be to do storyline weeks. Example, one week of the most critical episodes from the Nina/David Kimball saga.

I'm impressed that y&r actually is airing all episodes unlike B&B where we can barely get something pre 2015.

I dont remember Victor and Cassandra ever being a thing! Is there any woman on this show he did not bang at some point? lol. I think women just like his voice because in the looks department he is just ok

Sheila. I wonder what an explosive Sheila/Victor marriage, divorce, and subsequent rivalry would look like.

He never tapped Lauren at any point as far as I know.....I guess (minus Hope) he likes needy women.

Have you seen the retro-styled ads for The CBS Sunday Night Movies? There’s your acid trip.

I’m with you, though. Once they phased out bringing out the nostalgic reruns for the holidays in the mid-2000s, I figured that was the end of ever seeing old episodes of soaps on TV (besides SOAPnet). My outrageous wish is that they realize how terrible a full hour of The Talk hosts FaceTiming each other really is and say “Y’all want some of this ATWT from 1978?”

    This! Especially the ATWT part!!!

  6. Didnt realize this was going on until I switched it back to CBS during the last 3 minutes of the episode. Its about time!

Waiting on General Hospital to give in next! It would be nice if DAYS could do the same, but since their episodes are filmed so far in advance I'm guessing they're set for now.

The choices for classics of Y&R continue to be so much better than anyone could have imagined. The Victor&Nikki week sounds amazing. I would have never dared to dream that CBS really means CLASSICS as in episodes not seen in more (!) than two decades (!).

Totally agree. The themed weeks idea is great!

Im surprised to see alot of grumblings on facebook. Considering CBS's stingeyness, so longs as its 2005 go backwards, I'm set.

Agreed. I do think they have had way too many cast changes over the last two decades but they can pull off theme weeks IMO. Like you said, focus on episodes that have a lot of Brooke, Taylor, Eric, Stephanie. Sally Spectra/Darlene Conley. Sheila and Lauren were both on B&B for years obviously, lol so they could be included. It could work. I think most fans are smart enough to 'get it'.

Agreed! Embrace the history behing the show and give the fans a look back. Brook vs Stephanie could fill a month by itself!

I don’t see how these flashbacks are better than the alternative. I’d rather see classic episodes (like those on Y&R) rather than these padded episodes of annoyance. There is nothing good about these flashbacks. They don’t work and they add nothing.

Agreed. Im waiting on GH to run out so they can air classics. Never thought I'd see Y&R air classics before GH. They could literally just air from the batch that played for their 50th anniversary marathon on soapnet. Fingers croseed that B&B resorts to classics aswell.

Unfortunately, it comes down to how the affiliates handle it. The ABC affiliate in NYC seems to now cut coverage of the press conferences short to allow General Hospital to air on time instead of preempting. Last week, there were several times that Murphy started his conferences in the mid-afternoon and right before it was 3pm - the local anchors would come on and provide a brief summary before introducing GH. When they did cut into GH because of weather related coverage, they at least aired the episode on their partner network.

I mean doesn't help the CBS soaps numbers when the biggest TV market in the US keeps preempting their soaps.

Plus as of 1:37, WCBS is the only local station still airing the press conference.

Welp, hopefully someone posts in in decent quality online before it gets deleted.

Did a real life brother and sister play Billy and Victoria?  Ew

Yes, BUT they were never a pairing until both bro and sis actors left their roles. This would definitely rule out both actors returning simultaneously.

Billy Miller to me is the best Billy Abbott, but I liked David Tom's tenure. I was surprised he got canned after returning in 2014/15ish. Jason Thompson is too unanimated. IDK if incorporating a bit of Patrick Drake into the role might spice it up.

Finally getting around to watching the episodes up in CBS.

I had almost completely forgotten about classic Y&R scene staging.  People talking to each other, turning away from them, then the second person coming in to focus over their shoulder, or across the room.  The score.  It all made it very heightened and dramatic even if they were just talking about basic human emotion.  I miss old fashioned soap closeups too.

Said the same thing! I think some of today's plots -- on all soaps in general --- could work if the execution was better. A scene (or storyline) like Neil getting his sight back then finding Hillary and Devon in bed would have been done better back in the day. Even if the plot wasn't all that, the serious vibe of old y&r, plus the lighting, ornate directing, and eerie classical scores could have made it work. Imangine the difference in presentation had 90s y&r done psyco JT (a horrendus plot) or Victor gaslighting Sharon with Mariah.

  13. I like 90s/early 00s Michelle Stafford compared to the performance we're getting now. The quasi Sheila that she was back then was fun material.

Might be in the minority, but I enjoy early 90s Christine. I find her pairing with Paul bland though. I don't know who the best male character for her would be, but she was better with Danny. Paul imo had better chemistry with Lauren and Cassaundra. His secretary Lynn would have most likely been the best woman for him, but she's so nice and calm, there wouldn't be much material there storyline wise.

Nick and Sharon were cool in the beginning but they've just been pulled apart so many times they've lost any interest as a supercouple.

  14. For other themed weeks, it's be good to see Lauren & Sheila week (which could also be shown on B&B), Nikki & Victor week, Drucilla week (would never happen), and psyco week (featuring Matt Clark, Tricia, Sheila, Sean, Suzanne Lynch etc...)

Y&R remained uninterrupted here up until today. Hopefully this isn't a preview for tomorrow. State governors watching us look forward to the classics:

In general, a lot of people consider "the golden era" to be 1973-1994, with a dip in quality from 1995-1997, and a resurgent "silver era" from 1998-2003. Of course within that, some years are better than others. 1983 and 1991 are peak years for me.

    Exactly my thoughts.

I understand the logic but it would also be the opportunity to introduce newcomers to the show history. Of course, they would realize how bad the show is today in comparison.

Agreed.  If anything colors your opinion of modern soaps, it's watching old soaps. Happened to me. Used to think soaps were so awesome in the 2000s, until I went on you tube.

From the 1993 episode that aired two weeks ago, am I the only one that thinks Peter Bergman's Jack is a better husband for Nikki than Victor? I like Victor's character but the mustache was bold  enough to tell  Nikki "wouldn't you get over the death of your baby in my arms faster than Jack's"....despite that fact that he (accidentally) caused it.
