Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I'm interested in seeing what Collinson means by Corrie having a more "cinematic look." The upcoming stunt should be fun to examine aesthetically. And who will be this "dead body" found this summer?

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Today's episode: Damn, those Denise and Lucas scenes were intense, especially during the last ten minutes of this episode. Diane Parish did a stellar job as an emotionally broken woman, and Lucas was out of his mind with all the messiah talk. The Darren and Minty World Cup stuff was useless filler. Their friendship always seemed weird to me, so who cares? I actually enjoyed the Ronnie and Jack scenes, they were light and fun. I also enjoyed the following scenes where Ronnie told Roxy what happened at the clinic and then how she's forgiven Roxy and Jack, they really felt like sisters in those scenes. Shirley (to Ronnie): I can keep my lips closed, unlike somebody! The Ian and Phil conversation about fatherhood was a nice surprise, and their karaoke duet was hilarious.

Still no new Series Story Producer? I wonder if they're eliminating the position altogether and will just rely on an all new team of storyliners.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Yeah, I wonder if there's any plans for Carol in the Fall. Santer brought her back with nothing for her do other than worry about Billie and annoy Bianca. I think the character needs a love interest or something. She really needs to get laid. I wonder if Kirkwood has something planned for her, he did mention her as one of the EastEnders "all-stars" in his Walford Web interview... What would you like to see them do with Carol, Carl?

I'm surprised some think that I think Pat wanted her living room back more than anything. Oh, something else surprised me about this episode, Jack's apartment has a washing machine? I thought no one in Walford had one of those!

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Today's episode: I thought the actress who plays Liz did a great job in her scenes with Libby. I've never been impressed with Libby, but she was somewhat OK, too. God, Taina Benjamin can't cry to save her life though. I like that Mo went around town yapping to everyone about Denise being sent off to the police station. It adds to the community aspect of the show. I don't understand what they have planned for Ryan and Janine, but they need to do something new with them or rest them for a while. I did hear they're getting a rest soon. Phil looking at Glenda's ass was kind of pervy, but I did like Glenda using Phil to get back at Peggy and her comment at the end about parenting to Peggy. This episode felt like mostly groundwork for Thursday's episode when

Marquess' first episode was a huge snore. Nothing felt different and I've noticed not even any subtle changes. But I guess we'll have to wait another month or two for actual stories to kick in. But still, not even the tone of this episode seemed different from what we've usually gotten under Lucy Allan. Cheryl's dancing. I don't find this racism story interesting at all. When did Lee Hardman start getting listed as EP with Tony Wood and Carolyn Reynolds?

I liked the scenes between Rita and Tina in Sunday's episode. I think Rita works as a great soundboard for Tina. Even when Corrie is bad, their character writing often has a lot of credibility and no other soap does comedy like Corrie does. I really cannot stand Ben Price as Nick... Sean is back.

I see Lee Salisbury also directed the church fire on Emmerdale last year. So, I guess he has a bit of a rep as a stunt director...

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
We won't see Kirkwood's actual storylines go into effect until late August/early September, so I think we'll have a more accurate picture of the direction the show is going in by November or so. But there's been noticeable tonal changes on the show and in Santer's storylines since Kirkwood took over. The episodes feel more character driven and the humour feels more natural and not as forced as it was sometimes before. Some characters, like the E20 gang aren't being forced on the audience anymore and are playing a wiser supporting role, which is how it should have been done months ago. The show does feel in a way like it's going back to some basics. As for the fire, I think they needed something to realistically bring down The Vic so that they could rebuild it for the HD transition and people would know why. They can't use the old Vic set since its too old and would look really bad in HD. The Vic is the most essential hub in the square, so it had to be center of this stunt. But I also think it will serve as a catalyst for other stories to follow.

The show did very well in the ratings last night, especially compared to the other soaps. Some were also saying BBC didn't even advertise the show at all yesterday, or not enough, so these ratings are impressive. Corrie's ratings in particular were horrendous yesterday. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/news/a236825/soaps-ratings-roundup-july-1.html
