  1. I don't even know what to make of Mercedes from what I've read of her over the past two years or so.

The character just seems like someone totally new, and I can't believe I used to hold a soft spot for her during her earlier years on the show (even when she did some questionable things). It's a perfect example of how bad and uncharacteristic writing can totally destroy a show or love you've had for a character.

  2. Well, even though she had some really shoddy writing for years on the show, I am going to miss Zainab/Nina Wadia. I'm glad they gave her a Julia's Theme for her last episode. Too bad the actual exit felt rushed and unplanned.

Special kudos to Nina Wadia who always gave it her all, even when the material wrote the character into a wall. I hope she returns one day as they didn't kill Zainab off.

  3. Honestly, I don't think Cissy even knew who the real Whitney was for a good part of the last 15-20 years of Whitney's life.

We'll never get it, but that's why I think Robyn's "testimony" is the missing piece in this Whitney blitz. By all accounts, that was the defining relationship in Whitney's adult life (before their supposed falling out), regardless if it was anything sexual or not.

  4. I will say this, at least Robyn hasn't been whoring her relationship with Whitney to the media or divulging private information about her to make a quick buck.

I can't say the same about the Houston family (Cissy included).

  5. The stories are too trite, too college cliche focused, dated as well, but I like the vibe Lisa Bonet brought, I like early Whitley, I liked Jaleesa, and loved Stevie.

Honestly, I think that could apply to the show as a whole, not just the first season (which despite its flaws, I think is judged way too harshly).

The show never really had really amazing sitcom writing, it was so wildly erratic, even during the seasons it was most interesting (2-5).

  6. There was probably more competition after season 1, but being sandwiched between The Cosby Show and Cheers was a pretty sweet deal.

Some sources report a tie between The Cosby Show and Roseanne during the 1988-1989 and 1989-1990 season for the #1 position, so its peak positions could very well be a slot higher for those seasons. Coincidentally, they were all shows produced by Carsey-Wener, the only time I believe a production company has ever had the top 3 shows on television.

  7. Who is complex in the Mitchell family? Hell, they aren't even a family anymore.

The only time they worked was in the early 90's when it was just Phill and Grant (with Sm through in and out).

I am looking forward to a new family and hope its executed well, it could be just what the show needs.

  8. Her version of The Shoop Shoop Song went to #1 in the UK, but only reached #33 in the US. I love her version too.

Cher herself has said that she always wanted to be an actress, not a singer, and that she's technically better at acting than singing.
