Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
I see that Charley Webb's Twitter bio gives her agents' details - what's that all about? Letting the show know that she's keeping her options open, in the same way that a lot of soap actors write "Currently playing so and so on [INSERT SHOW]'?

Peggy was never my favourite character, and I thought she was overhyped and overplayed. But Barbara Windsor's performance in those final eps really blew me away. Am actually in awe at how good she was, very moving and understated. Also had goosebumps at Grant's return, and seeing Pat again was so much better than I dared hope!

Did they explain how Gordon came to have that money to leave in the first place? They all seemed to accept it very readily. Am loving all the Pierce/Rhona/Vanessa/Rakesh psychodrama.

Yes, that is a fair point, characters with a sense of morality are in short supply on the show. I did howl at Finn's line to Pete: "Half the staff in here have done time - it's like the cast of Chicago behind that bar."

Am skipping all of David's cancer storyline, as I just can't get past the fact that Alicia is out in Portugal alone while her ex - and her teenage son - trot around the village. Not to mention her rapist. I wish the show had been brave enough to lose Matthew Wolfenden and send David and Alicia off into the sunset together. Am also sick of Cain's rough justice - wish Pete had punched him back. Do we think a Kirin recast could work? While Pierce is still around there could be something to play.

Paul Robinson lost a leg on Neighbours, and I think Don Brennan on Corrie did too.

At the start of last week, when Pierce was telling Rhona and Vanessa about how his life had gone down the tubes, did he really say that everyone at his work knew about Tess and Paddy's affair? How is that even possible?

Robert looking in the mirror to see if he had anything in his teeth was utterly dreadful.

I've watched the Laurel/Ashley wedding eps twice now, they were just fantastic. Brilliant work by Charlotte Bellamy, and John Middleton and Katherine Dow Blyton were great too. So much emotion! I loved it at the end of Monday's episode when Harriet told Laurel she looked beautiful. (And she did - that dress was gorgeous). Having Harriet back in her cassock reinforced for me that she NEEDS to become the village vicar again when Ashley is no longer able. There is still so much untapped potential with Harriet, and she deserves to be at the heart of the community as a modern, human vicar who has flaws just like Ashley had. Sidenote: am so happy that Duncan Preston came back to the show. Doug and Laurel's relationship is so believable, I really love their scenes together.

Zoe Henry has been brilliant at spitting out the snarky, wounding one-liners to Paddy. Long may it continue. I don't understand what they're doing with Leyla. One minute she's all set to marry Nikhil, and now she's swooning over Jai again. Has she been lobotomised? And has Jai really changed or is he still a snake?

I will do at some point. The original concept of the show, with a couple fostering lots of children, was so cleverly done as it allowed lots of different stories to be told within one family. It also enabled new kids to arrive on a regular basis. But it couldn't be sustained longterm as the actors who played Tom, Pippa (both of them) and Michael moved on. Wasn't there another family after them who also fostered kids? How successful was that?

Can I retract my post saying that I like Chrissie? Calling Bernice a golddigger in the salon (which never seems to have any customers) and then getting her teenage son to help her install spy cameras was really gross.

While we're discussing Lawrence - did the village as a whole (or even Chrissie) find out about his history with Edna and her husband? I don't think they did, and it's too late now. And although I agree that Chrissie can be whiney, I do like her. Just wish she hadn't had that awful haircut recently!

I've been watching the show (for the first time in about 20 years) since it returned in the UK this year, specifically for the Charlotte storyline. She's such a great character! And the boy who plays her son, Hunter, has to be the hottest male in Summer Bay. The girl playing Olivia, Irene's new dependant, is very compelling too. Not sure how many weeks we are behind Aus, but I'll keep watching while this Charlotte story plays out.

I've heard this elsewhere, but am curious - what makes you think that a cast exodus is imminent?

Completely agree, YRBB. Brilliant work from all involved in Aaron's story, and I'm loving Emma v Charity. I was a little dismayed that Pete's sentencing happened offscreen - so is that it now, we're not going to see him until he's released?

The first actor to play Ted Capwell, Todd McKee, really reminds me of Rik Makarem, currently playing Nikhil in the British soap Emmerdale...

He's not a good actor, to say the least, but he has his moments (he was good when Vanessa had the baby and he stayed with her). He also has a lot of chemistry with the main people in his story. For me the worst actor on the show is Chris Bisson, although he has his moments. For me the worst actor on the show is Chris Bisson, although he has his moments. Ah, that's interesting. I enjoy Chris Bisson, but I get that Jai can be a little bit one-note.

The fallout when Adam and Victoria returned with baby Johnny was so soapy, with accusations - and fists - flying, and characters appalled at who knew what. Loved it. Emmerdale are great at doing these story lines that ricochet across families and character groups. And I know I'll get flak for this, as some of you really fancy him, but I must say that Adam Fielding is easily the worst actor on the show. He is so wooden!

Happy new year to you, too! I thought the NYE/NYD eps were fantastic, so much going on. Aaron in his gladiator outfit was rather appealing. I enjoyed Debbie's exit - although I can't bear her, she's great when wounded and trapped in a corner. As for Ross, never has a character gone from one of my absolute favourites to my most despised within a year, I've had enough of him, he refuses to take responsibility for anything, and is clearly a sociopath. Were we meant to feel sorry for him when Robert ruined his proposal? Yuck. Zak and Joanie are brilliant, the Dingle Court can do one, who the hell does Cain think he is? I love that Kerry stands up to him, while Dan remains as spineless as ever. As for the wonderful Emma, her line about "I can't say I was ecstatic about the prospect of Debbie becoming my daughter-in-law. Again." had me howling. Charity worries me, am not sure they'll know what to do with her when she gets out. But I will keep the faith. And I was yelling at the TV when the nurse mentioned the 'mixed race baby' thing to Vanessa. So nearly there!

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
I've not watched much EastEnders this year, but we tuned in on Christmas Day and I thought it was horrendous. After the heartfelt festive feel of Emmerdale, it just seemed to be full of coarse shouty harridans (twas ever thus, I guess), and as for Ian and Jane -they are absolutely disgusting. The way Ian was threatening Sharon enraged me. And as for the show hinting that we'd see a child killing another child - seriously, is that entertainment?! I know that this is the show that years ago had a Christmas ep with a man pushing his wife's face into her roast dinner (Trevor and Little Mo), but at least that was a believable extension of a story which made a real impact. I haven't seen Fatboy's exit, but it sounds completely vile. Why do that to a character who was well loved by so many, it's just sadistic.

I agree that the Christmas episode was wonderful and heartfelt. I enjoyed Belle's role in the reveal, and her line to Joanie after: "Oh, and the bracelet? It didn't make my skin itch. It made it crawl." Ouch. That said, I'm loving Zak and Joanie together, as I really like both characters and can't bear Lisa. Am gagging for more Charity v Emma scenes. #TeamEmma
