    Who was the Clown Puppet Killer? From the get-go, I assumed it was either Emily Michaels(the chick that took Draper in when he had amnesia) or my strongest hunch was Julia's nanny, Molly, the same chick who would take care of Jamey when Raven would call and yell, "I need to see my mother and I have to go to the hospital right NOOOOOW!"

    Not sure of the character names, but the guy Stuart had a one-night stand with is talking to the group of men about his mother being unable to come to terms with his sexuality. He mentioned the lesbian wedding on Emmerdale and how his mother just shut off the TV. One of the queens said, "That's not homophobia. That's good taste in television."

  3. QAF, huh? That's interesting. Russell Davies is a big Corrie fan, he even wrote one of their video specials and nearly worked for them as a storyliner. He said he wanted that job for years but when he was offered, he turned it down because he realized if he took it he'd never leave. Perhaps he was just having a laugh at those who look down on soaps, or he sees Emmerdale as being inferior to Corrie.

    Oh no...he definitely painted soaps in a positive light and mentioned them very often among the other guy(Stuart's best friend). He tells this girl he went out on a date with that he had juggle his schedule around Coronation Street and she asks, "You watch The Street?!"

    So when the Emmerdale reference came up(RE: The Lesbian Wedding), someone said, "That's not homophobia, that's good taste in television" or something to that effect, I assumed that meant Emmerdale was the Days of our Lives of British Soaps.

    No, I have not seen any of the British Soaps(aside from assorted clips of Hollyoaks and the occassional EastEnders Omnibus from when BBC America used to air it), but I am in love with QAF. I've only gotten through episode two, but it beautifully shot and produced, the characters seem so real and raw, and there's no victim complex or some plot that's baited to the audience that's supposed to make us feel sorry for these people(unlike the US version which all about tragedy in body glitter and 2xIST underwear). There aren't any punches pulled with the British version and I respect it, no matter how badly it makes me cringe to see it.

    Do most Brit Soaps have a similar style? Not meaning the gay thing, but the way their stories are told?

  4. I'm surprised that I'm the first one to post about this, but I can't believe how stupid Palin was in choosing to resign as governor. Politically, this makes no sense at all. In fact, the only "logical" reason behind this decision is that she has concluded her political career is over and instead has decided to become very wealthy in the private sector (by becoming a talk show host or milking her celebrity in some other way).

    Or maybe she has a skeleton in her closet(i.e. tax evasion). That's where I'm placing my wager.

    Yet, if I was a Democrat, I would not be so thrilled about today's bombshell announcement. Prior to today, Palin was the clear front-runner for the 2012 GOP nomination. (And as the nominee, she would have gotten crushed in a general election.) Now, however, her chances of getting the nomination are slim to none (as nobody in the Republican establishment will want to embrace her). This, in turn, means that the GOP may nominate a much stronger candidate to run against Obama.
    The Republicans need to push their social issues aside and focus on the bigger issue: the country's economic woes. I honestly wasn't too thrilled with Obama as a nominee(I was still a huge hardcore Hillary fan), but when McCain picked Palin and seeing her during her interview with Charlie Gibson, that scared me enough to go running to Obama.

    The Repubs need to focus LESS on social issues and more on the economy. A fiscally sound Conservative candidate that doesn't have a history of pork barrel spending will get the Republicans the 2012 win. That's the only way it will happen. A Republican that focuses more on social issues in his platform will lose.

  5. What did some of you think about Frances Fisher? And Joel Crothers?

    As I mentioned previously, I thought Frances Fisher was great. Very pretty, but also very capable as an actress. I can totally see how she made a name for herself in film. I didn't care too much for the Deborah Saxon character(always up in everyone else's business), but Fisher was great.

    Joel Crothers was just blah. I mean, I don't think he had the charisma or the sex appeal that actors like Lee Goddard, Ernie Townsend, Dennis Parker, and even Tony Craig had. I guess that's what the role called for, but I just didn't find him all that attractive or really that good.

  6. I discovered a EON montage on YouTube today, and it left me wondering, why wasn't this show such a hit? I mean it's premise seems to be mystery and adventure, which was all the rage in the 80s. It really puzzles me.
    For me, I loved it because it was different from alot of other soaps in that it was mystery driven, but it didn't talk down to its audience or have some woman sitting at her window crying about the love she lost. Things always happened. It was very slow paced, but things always happened. And not to mention Sharon Gabet, who is simply one of the most badass and glamorous actresses on the effing globe. I'm glad she retired from acting and found God, so I can remember her just as she was instead of seeing her on today, so desperate like every other older daytime actress that came in her time.
  7. That's what I thought, they did try for youth stories, but it just didn't work for viewers. Didn't they also fire Maeve Maguire, then make Nicole much younger (before killing her off), replace the old police chief with a young, hot chief, etc.?

    Sorry about the NBC, for some reason I thought NBC got EON as well as SFT, I forgot there was a 5-6 year difference in when those shows were cancelled by CBS.

    I dunno, but I wasn't too fond of the chick playing Nicole during the whole, "OMG, why is my white blood cell count low." story. The casting director should have been shot for choosing those lame actresses.

    I wish YouTube or Hulu would pick up where Edge left off. I really am sick of trying to keep myself unspoiled about the Clown Puppet Killer.

  8. EON was a popular show for 15 years, until Procter & Gamble had the show moved to an earlier timeslot to create a bloc of P&G soaps. EON had many fans who were still in school and who were men who watched the show when they were getting home from work, and they could no longer watch. The ratings plummeted. After a few years CBS cancelled the show. NBC picked it up and moved the show back to the original slot, but by that time momentum was lost, and many fans did not bother to follow to a new network. Then in the late 70s and early 80s soaps became all about youth and location shooting and none of that really fit EON.

    ABC. It moved to ABC in 1975.

    Also keep in mind some of those ABC affiliates either aired it on a day behind or as long as a two week behind delay and some of them didn't even air it all. That's what hurt EDGE's momentum in the long run.

    And they sure as hell tried to make all of that youth and supercouple stuff fit in. The carnival episodes(the climax leading to Draper Scott being reunited with April) were beautifully directed and those were an outdoor location shoot. And they pimped the hell out of Kelly/Jody/Gavin/Martine, even if it did suck ass.

    It may be fairly recent(as in from 2000 to beyond), but they've even played the one I'm thinking of just recently.

    Great choices. I've always enjoyed B&B's music. I'm glad they have decided to find a balance between this new flashy stuff and the cues we love so much.

    There's one piece they always play during "romantic moments." That's another piano cue, but it's really really great. I need to find it somewhere.

  11. I'm a casual Y&R viewer, but I absolutely love this new cue they play during Nick/Sharon's scenes(It's on Monday's airshow). It's not a variation of the Paris Theme, although it might be and I might be missing it. I got an advanced peek into Monday's show, and there's this really good sad/suspense building cue they use with them. It sounds like a less trashy Melrose Place/Dominic Messinger kind of cue. Which means you all will probably hate it. LOL.

    I'm surprised they're using it. To me, it doesn't sound very "Y&R."

    But what IS being an independent anymore? LOL.

    I don't think anyone can be truly independent, just like I don't believe anyone is truly apathetic. You typically lean one way or the other.

  14. She didn't turn into April. :P But she did get less selfish. She became a better mother to Jamie and when Logan returned to town, he ended up falling in love with her again, rather obsessively trying to get her away from her husband but she stayed with Sky. There's a nice scene up on youtube where Raven is basically breaking Logan's heart but trying to do it gently. Unfortunately, right after that, Logan got murdered and Raven was wrongly accused.

    LOL. Funny you should mention, I didn't mind April nearly as much as the long suffering, holier-than-thou heroine. I thought Terry Davis was great in the role and she exuded alot of "woe is me," but she also played the character with sexuality and presence instead of just whining her way through every line. April had some spunk to her, but that may have been because I started tuning in during the middle of the whole Draper Scott/Emily Michaels held captive story. I need to look for the rest of the Edge episodes to watch them all in order.

    The good girls characters I hated way more were Deborah Saxon, Nicole, and especially Jody. Frances Fisher was good as Deborah, but the character just never seemed to have a life of her own. I never got to know what happened to Nicole(because AOL pulled the reruns off their channel), but she was a mess too with her mysterious illness. Zzzzzzzz. And don't even get me started on Jody. I think alot of it though has to do with my Lori Loughlin hate. I only knew her as Aunt Becky on Full House, so I didn't know what to expect really, but DAMN, she sucks on EDGE. The girl just whines through EVERY SINGLE SCENE. Even if the story doesn't call for it. It's like, "Oh well...I'm having a burger with you Kelly" "Oh Kelly, your puppets are wonderful." Everything was with this whiny, nails on a chalkboard voice. Damnit, she was terrible! I can't get over it. I can never look at her the same way again. And all the other younger actors on the show weren't great, but they weren't BAD either(love Allen Fawcett and his blond afro-puff).

    I just love how bad of a mother Raven was. You'd never see a character like that, so unapologetic and so nasty, become the lead on a soap today. I like how even up to the end, she was plotting a way to abscond with Baby Jamie to get her hands on her mother's estate. And Geraldine stops her right in her tracks. LOL.

    So DM or RC Cates brought over the EXACT SAME cue from AMC to GH. Are there any other instances of shows (except GH/PC sharing the same music cues?

    I distinctly remember watching ATWT post-Goutman takeover and hearing an AW cue used on the show. Some suspence cue, nothing that used the AW theme.

    I'm not a big fan of B&B's music. They only have a few good cues. I can't believe B&B/Y&R share the same composers.

    Alot of it may also have to do with the different producers, directors, and editors. We see the difference in the way music and cues were used during LML's run on Y&R and Griffith and especially Rauch's run on the show. Nothing may have changed behind the scenes(in terms of who the music director is), but there may be a mandate from the producer as to the tone of the scenes. Alot of people automatically assume the show's main director picks which cues are used in certain scenes. That may be the case for some shows, but not for all. Unless directions are explicitly written in the script or by a director/producer, I believe the music director has free reign to use whatever cues he/she wants. Obviously, if the EP/Director or another higher up watches the said final copy and would much prefer another cue to be used that would make a scene alot less cheesy or have more dramatic impact, then they would make the music director pick a different cue.
