Amanda was actually born some years after Therese died.  Didnt Therese die around 75 or 76?  Amanda was born in either late 78 or 79.  In soap world these are decades.  With regard to Mac blurting out I finally have a daughter or a child I can see that as an unconcisous remark and then realizing afer seeing Iris's face that he said something he shouldn't have.  I also agree with other members here with Lemay re-inventing the whole thing all over again.  Especailly with Sylvie & Mac once having an affair.  Seemed kind of stupid.  This was now 1988 and Lemay came back as head writer and I thought his writing with regard to Iris now played by Carmen Duncan was nothing like his writing for Bev McKinsley

I could be wrong but I believe this is part of the reason he resigned?  He was presssured into writing the murder of John Randolph or something to that effect. that  He stated he was not into writing characters being murdered and on the day of the 90 min episode, there was competition from another network that was airing a soap episode that they needed to lure the audience to watch AW.  I believe there was a GL episode or ATWT that was the competiton that AW wanted viewers to tune into John's death

Reading recaps, yes Therese died in 76

Phyllis hasn't been like that in years.  She does NOT ruin the show. The clinically diagnosed psychopath is Adam Newman.  Phyllis was a bitch, and can still be at times.   Currently Sally is worse than Phyllis IMHO.

AGREE wholeheartedly about Doug Davidson.  BUT on Chelsea, slightly disagree, the character being force fed to us is ADAM!  Plus this stupid storyline of Sharon having feelings for Adam and vice versa is beyond ridiculous,  when during the Justin Hartley years, Adam and Sharon barely had scenes together etc.  Y&R is in desperate need of new writers, the Abby baby mess (with NO Chance, who should've been re-cast immediately not sent offscreeen for who knows how long),  the Victoria being a bitch and wanting Billy again, and the Adam Sharon mess, are all proof of this, as well as the not using Paul, not doing much with Michael, Kevin, Traci and the missing Fen, Noah, etc.

Since you did state CURRENTLY, I would say they are both being bitches; but yes currently Sally is blackmailing peeps lol

Sally's past misdeeds are amatuerish compared to Katherine, Victor, Sheila, Michael, Phyllis, Chlovin, Adam and currently Chelsea who is on her 2 attempted murder 😎

Rachel and Felicia. Especially, during the intervention story as we saw their friendship get tested and fall apart only for them to come back together.

Jessica and Margo. I loved their friendship until Hogan Sheffer ruined it by having them chase the same damn man.

Sharon and Dru. One of the few bright spots on Y&R post 2005. I loved how their friendship was built on their utter hatred of SPhyllis. Per usual, this went to the wayside when the show killed Dru.

And ironically had Sharon be the one to PUSH it to the wayside, LML was ruthless lol

I think the most frustrating thing is that if the show just did a little more to delve into the things that viewers notice, like Lily's tendency to date white men, it could make for so much more interesting stories and compelling dramatic conflict.

For instance, here's an idea I literally came up with in 10 minutes: Let's say that a younger darker-skinned black woman from a working class background (more like Lily's mother Dru) comes to town and applies for a job at Chancellor Communications. But Lily decides not to hire her because she thinks the young woman doesn't fit the "classy" image of ChanceCo. (For added drama, this young woman could even be a previously unmentioned Barber cousin). And when this young woman finds out that Lily was the one who blocked her hiring, she goes off on Lily, talking about internalized racism and colorism, bringing up Lily's history of exclusively dating white men, and so forth. And then Lily gets angry, and she's complaining to Devon about what this young woman said to her (like "Can you believe she thinks I'm a racist?") but then Devon calmly suggests that this young woman might have a point about Lily's internalized biases. And so on...

Wait wut, Lily hired Amanda, who is darker than her Mom

Personally, I don’t believe Meghan either. Many people in the UK saw her up front for months. Disrespecting protocols and essentially marketing herself for publicity.  I think she lied a lot about a lot of things. People with personality disorders lie about a lot of things for attention and sympathy. Sharon shouldn’t be fired for stating her opinion otherwise what’s the point of The Talk. And I doubt Meghan ever had plans to stay in the UK. She used the Royal family for fame and monetary opportunities in Hollywood, hence the interview.

Sharon's opinion of Meghan was not the issue, Sharon basically attacks Cheryl Underwood on whether Pierce Morgan was racist , and whether she was for defending him 😐

I think he was let go due to his social media stuff. He said he was given scripts through the end of March. For this to happen it was obviously sudden and they timed it with his contract cycle. He was trying to save face so he can get another job.

He said he was given his taping schedule not scripts, and he didn't say they had been fired but they will be fired, just clarifying

Cathy really was a piece of work.  A victim of mental illness and trauma, who coped by becoming dependent on any guy who looked at her twice.  She was always the third wheel in every love triangle, and tried to steal men from Vicky, Pat, and Karen.  She was certainly no match for any of those iconic Llandview women.  As a result she was in at least two relationships where her lover only stayed out of pity.

That being said, I am surprised that Ron Carlivati never brought her back.  He was such a fan of the Vicky antagonists (from Allison, to Tina, Echo, and Irene), that it seems natural for Cathy to try to get her hooks into Clint.

Until I caught up on her history, I never realized that she was the reason Pat came to Llandview.  I recall Pat being Vicky's close friend so it is weird that she was originally team-Cathy.  The whole thing about how she escaped kidnapping charges is also an odd detail.  Today, I guess she would have been diagnosed with a brain tumor (the rare type that causes people to plan child abductions). At the time the insanity defense was in the news, so I suspect that was motivation to use it as a device.  However, while Cathy couldn't remember stealing Kevin after she was found, she had clearly planned the kidnapping and was conscious of her efforts to escape, which therefore negates her qualifying as insane.  Obviously, the writer at the time thought enough of the character to devise a way to keep her on the canvas, but subsequent regimes were not as beholden to poor old Cathy.

In hindsight, it was a cruel trick that Vicky's long lost daughter Megan shared a name with Cathy's late child.  Vicky begged Larry not to tell Clint that baby Megan inherited her illness from him.  However, Clint went to father tons of other kids who never developed the same genetic defect.  He also shared DNA with Asa, Bo, Natalie, Joey, Cord, Kevin, and Jessica who never had babies with a similar illness, which makes me second guess Larry's prowess as a genetic specialist...

Wrong husband, it was Joe not Clint!
