  1. I remember reading in Chris Schemering's soap book that many of the Luke and Laura scenes during their big heyday (on the run, for instance) were improvised. Is that true?

It is. Tony, Genie (and Tristan) improvised a lot together. I think Gloria Monty encouraged it. Also of interest is that sometimes TG would not show up for work and his lines went to TR. Funny, how that ended up being the case again just recently.

  2. I wasn't sad to see Emma Samms and her basic ass backburnered and then fired...

Emma Samms wasn't fired. She left on her own. Probably because she knew that Holly and dud Bill Eckert weren't working out. She knew viewers wanted to see Robert & Holly - not Bill & Holly.

  3. Considering without her changes the show would have been canceled, I don't see how that is possibly true.

IA. While Monty didn't have an on-air tribute to Emily, at least she didn't butcher the characters that came before her beyond recognition.

  4. This was great. Thanks for posting. I love seeing the old brownstone, Bobbi & Jake, Aunt Ruby, Scotty, Tiffany and her sister Cheryl. I remember I even liked the pairing of Cheryl and Robert. The good old days.

  5. As a HUGE Gloria Monty fan, I have to say I really loved the Wendy Riche era. I thought she was a fantastic producer. She respected Monty's GH but made the show her own. While watching Riche's GH, I remember thinking for the first time how proud I was to watch the show. I will always love Monty's GH more than Riche's GH, but I really came to enjoy all the different aspects of Riche's GH. It was more balanced than Monty's GH. The show under her reign was well written, respected history, showcased a lot of different characters and had true emotion. I absolutely cannot stand Bob Guza as a writer, but I liked him under Riche's reign. That says a lot. I would give anything to have Riche back to tell GH's last stories. She is greatly missed.

  6. I guess I would say that Luke and Robert are tied in popularity as GH's leading man. I think the current (Cartini) and previous (Phelps & Guza) regime want us to think it's Luke - but I truly believe Robert is right up there with Luke.

As far as romances go, obviously no one can touch Luke & Laura, but I really don't think any of Luke's other romances were that popular. Jackie, Holly, Connie, Tracy, Skye, Felicia...and now maybe Anna....were okay but some of them were downright repulsive. I think TPTB just tried to shove the pairings down the viewers' throats and thought they would fly because it was TONY GEARY.

Robert Scorpio was much more appealing to me as a woman. He could be so cocky and confident as the Police Commissioner and then melt when he was with a woman - a deadly combination. Plus, once they paired him with Holly, he was a one-woman man. And not too many actors can claim to be a part of TWO supercouples (Robert & Holly and Robert & Anna). I also loved Robert with Tiffany, Cheryl and Katherine. The only two ladies I didn't like him with were Jackie and Autumn. So, for me, Robert wins as GH's leading man but I suspect soap columnists and TPTB would say it's Luke.

  7. I rememebr Frons referring to Felicia as a matriarch back in 2003. Of course her airtime decreased and she was out. Matriarch is word Id use for someone like Lila, not someone who was still very young and vibrant as Kristina was at that time

The funny thing is that Laura Wright (GH's leading lady) is older than Kristina was at the time but that didn't stop Frons from shoving her character down our throats.

  8. I think I asked this before, but I have a childhood GH memory of somebody placing a scorpion under a couple's door and we watched it crawl towards the bed as the couple in their pajamas got ready for bed. The audio was just suspenseful music, no dialogue. The scorpion eventually made it to the bed and stung the guy as we saw his silent scream, reaching for his back. I think this was Robert and Holly in bed but I can't remember. Does anyone remember this?

I do. It was Grant Putnam. The DVX was trying to kill Celia and Grant saw the Scorpion and shoved it off the bed and got bit himself. Celia called Holly and Robert who met them at the hospital.

  9. Were Luke and Holly popular or did people view her as a Laura replacement? Have Holly and Laura interacted onscreen?

Luke and Holly were more popular than Luke and Jackie (Demi Moore) but that's not saying much. I think the show went way too fast with Luke trying to move on without Laura and then Luke never mentioned Laura. It was hard. I do think TG and ES had some chemistry but when TR entered the picture there really was no contest. When TG went on vacation (and Luke "died" in an avalanche), Robert married a pregnant Holly so she wouldn't be deported. The original storyline had Holly going back to Luke, but the fans wanted Holly to stay with Robert and so they changed the entire storyline. Robert and Holly ended up becoming GH's 2nd supercouple.

There is a scene in late 1983, where Luke and Holly believe they are going to die, they hug, sort of kiss, and then Holly says all she can think about is Robert. So, Holly got over Luke way back in 1983. That's why I can't stand these Luke/Holly scenes now. They make it seem like Holly has been holding a torch for Luke all these years when she was completely over him in back in 1983.

And yes, Holly and Laura interacted together back in 1983 when Laura came back from the dead. Their introduction was awkward at first but then the ladies became friendly. Luke, Laura, Robert & Holly all had dinner together several times.

  10. I know Geary went off the show in early 1983 to do a movie with Judith Light. He extended into late 1983 and then left when Genie came back. That was heaven. Robert ended up with Holly. Luke ended up with Laura. Everyone was happy. tongue.png

  11. Not too impressed with him either. Gloria Monty spoiled us GH fans. But I have to say I loved Wendy Riche. I love how she made the show her own but respected Monty's GH. The current regime could take a few lessons from her.
