Kind of timely to post that as Mark Hamill (Star Wars) is in this pic.

Slicked-back Grant (not Flannel Grant) eventually would kidnap Anna. I know Denise Alexander left in 1984 so I think she leaves the show fairly soon. I was so sad when they killed Lesley off. She was one of my faves.

Slicked-back Grant, DL Brock and John Stamos as Blackie. Those were the good old days!

Yea, Lesley looks pretty hip and happening!

I think part of it worked, but Luke waving the sword and David hiding behind the shield...I cringed. A lot.
Tristan Rogers is always so much fun in the stuff from Robert's first few years. It's too bad they made him more dour later on.
Oh, I always liked Tristan Rogers and Robert Scorpio. Except for the later Guza years. That was just painful.

I still remember Robert falling out of that tram and Sean yelling "Scorpio!" That was the Friday cliffhanger. Good times!

Nice pic of Rachel Ames.

Predictions:
1. Jimmy Lee did become the resident stud.
2. Luke and Holly did NOT marry. Robert & Holly became GH's 2nd supercouple.
3. Blackie and Lou were DEFINITELY not the new Luke & Laura.
4. Scotty did reform - but it took many years - and Dominique - for that to happen.

Love the pic of Jackie and Kristina and their big tummies. Jackie's daughter and Kristina's son are now (I think) in their early 20s. Wow.

Tony gets all the acting accolades, the Emmys, and is clearly favored by TPTB. I'm not saying at his peak he didn't desrve it. But the magic of Genie with him is that it kind of grounds his performances, not to mention gives Luke a heart.
The longer she is away, the worse his instincts are. He goes bigger, and darker, and it lacks depth and meaning without the Laura character. My opinion of course.
I think she is overlooked. I would rather have Laura onscreen without Luke than Luke without her.
I agree 100% with you. And for whatever reason, every regime at GH seems to love Tony to the point of giving him whatever he wants storyline wise. Unfortunately, quite often it is not a hit with fans. But that doesn't seem to matter to TPTB. Giving Tony what he wants seems more important than giving the fans what they want.

Stefan and Laura were smokin'!

Funny I never liked TB as Carly because she simply didn't seem like Carly to me. I felt the actress was "acting". I believed Sarah Brown was Carly and I agree with the above poster that her character worked because she was NOT the moral voice. She was just one of those characters you hated....but sort of liked. Laura Wright is a decent recast but I still think Sarah Brown's Carly was the best by far.

"Love in the afternoon". No one did it better than ABC Daytime back in the early 80s. Sigh.

Loved Frisco and Felicia. Thanks for sharing.

I believe I have them all except the first.
Yea, I've never seen the first one. Nice find!

Thanks DRW50 for posting the old articles. Daytime TV was right - Tristan Rogers would be the heir apparent for GH. And Lynn Herring's hair is so blond! I like her "real" color much better.

Lou (played by DVF) could not have been killed off soon enough for me. She was one of the whiniest characters to ever set foot in Port Charles and DVF was one of the worst actresses in GH history. I know her father was some big-wig Hollywood producer or something. I loved John Stamos as Blackie but I couldn't stand his "romance" with Lou. Thank goodness they finally killed her off.

I can't wait to watch all of these clips later tonight. Thanks for posting!

Interesting take on the Qs, quartermaine fan. I have to agree. I LOVED the Qs in the 80s. I still loved them in the 90s (because I grew up with them) but they weren't the same Qs. Then Guza (and Cartini) decimated them. It's so sad.
Oh, I also loved the article on Denise Alexander. She was THE reason I first tuned into GH in the 70s.

I love this thread. It makes me remember that GH really did used to be a great show.

Interesting articles. I also like the pic with all the GH ladies. Thanks for posting.

The girl is Terri Brock, Bobbie's stepdaughter. One of the guys is one of the O'Connor brothers, whichever one it is Lucy was involved with and that was a serial killer. I can't remember if that was Kevin or Patrick. No idea about the other guy.
The dark haired guy is Kevin O'Connor played by Kevin Bernhardt. He was the serial killer. The actor even filled in for Jack Wagner playing Frisco for a time when JW got in a hissy fit with Gloria Monty. The blonde is Guy Mack who played Patrick O'Connor. Boring doctor. Zzz.
And yes, DRW50, it was an odd time for the show. Tristan Rogers and Emma Samms had just left the show and there was a noticeable void in who should play a leading role on this show. Clearly, Terry and the O'Connor boys were not it.

I always wonder if this story ultimately disappointed quite a few fans along the way (both Robert/Anna and Robert/Holly fans).
This storyline only disappointed because both Tristan and Finola left the show. It never truly got resolved. Maybe that's why the R&A and R&H fans are still fighting. Then again, they'd probably be fighting no matter what happened.

Man, the first clip just jumped out at me. Location shoots! What a difference a couple of decades make. The money put into soaps nowadays is microscopic compared to what they spent in the 80s.
