  1. September 1986. Different Georgia area.

WTOC (Savannah) and WJXT (Jacksonville FL) - Young and the Restless, 12:30; As the World Turns, 1:30; Capitol, 2:30; Guiding Light, 3

WJKS (Jacksonville FL) and WALB (Albany) - Search for Tomorrow, 12:30; Days of Our Lives, 1; Another World, 2; Santa Barbara, 3

WTLV (Jacksonville FL) - Ryan's Hope, noon; Loving, 12:30; All My Children, 1; One Life to Live, 2; General Hospital, 3

Here's a change. I wanted to find some much older TV listings, so here's some from September 1954. Most of these stations didn't air anything before noon.

KVTV (Sioux City IA) - Valiant Lady, 11; Love of Live, 11:15; Search for Tomorrow, 11:30; Portia Faces Life, noon; Seeking Heart, 12:15; Brighter Day, 3; Secret Storm, 3:15

WCCO (Minneapolis) - Brighter Day, 3; Secret Storm, 3:15. Doesn't look like the station had any programming before

KSTP (Minneapolis) - Golden Windows, 2:15; One Man's Family, 2:30; Concerning Miss Marlowe, 2:45; Hawkins Falls, 3; First Love, 3:15

KGLO (Mason City IA) - Valiant Lady, 3:45

WOI (Ames IA) - No soaps.

KELO (Sioux Falls SD) - Seeking Heart, 2:30; Love of Life, 4; Search for Tomorrow, 4:15

KMTV (Omaha) - Seeking Heart, 4:15; Portia Faces Life, 4:30

  2. Some weird listings from December 1986. I'm not sure if anyone was running a full schedule of anything.

WTVC (Chattanooga TN) - Falcon Crest, noon; Loving 12:30; All My Children, 1 p.m.; One Life to Live, 2; General Hospital, 3

WSB (Atlanta) - Ryan's Hope, 12:30; All My Children, 1 p.m.; One Life to Live, 2; General Hospital 3

WRCB (Chattanooga TN) - Search for Tomorrow, 12:30; Days of Our Lives, 1 p.m.; Another World, 2

WRCB runs Bugs Bunny and Friends at 3 p.m. instead of Santa Barbara.

WAGA (Atlanta) - Young and the Restless, 12:30; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Capitol, 2:30; Guiding Light, 3

    March 1973

WQXI are the earlier call letters of WXIA, which loved deviating from the usual schedules. They did this in order to show an afternoon movie. That has been consistent with all the charts I've seen. Reruns of Love, American Style were also moved from afternoon to a morning airing to allow for this.

WSB (Atlanta) and WRCB (Chattanooga) Days of Our Lives, 2 p.m.; The Doctors, 2:30 p.m.; Another World, 3 p.m.; Return to Peyton Place, 3:30 p.m.; Somerset, 4 p.m.

WAGA (Atlanta) and WDEF (Chattanooga) Love of Life, 11:30 p.m.; Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Guiding Light, 2 p.m.; Edge of Night, 2:30 p.m.; Love is a Many Splendored Thing, 3 p.m.; Secret Storm, 3:30 p.m.

    WTVC (Chattanooga) All My Children, 1 p.m.; General Hospital, 3 p.m.; One Life to Live, 3:30 p.m.;

WQXI (Atlanta) One Life to Live, 11 am.; All My Children, 1 p.m.; General Hospital, 3 p.m.

    March 1976

No ABC stations in this particular area were airing Edge of Night. Two stations moved Somerset.

    WJKS (Jacksonville FL) All My Children, 12:30 p.m.; Ryan's Hope, 1 p.m.; General Hospital, 3 p.m.; One Life to Live, 3:30 p.m.

WJXT (Jacksonville FL) Love of Life, 11:30 a.m.; Young and the Restless, noon; Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Guiding Light, 2:30 p.m.

WTLV (Jacksonville FL) Somerset, 1 p.m., Days of Our Lives, 1:30 p.m.; The Doctors, 2:30 p.m.; Another World, 3 p.m.

Days pre-empted on March 8 for First Ladies Diaries.

    WSAV (Savannah) Somerset, 1 p.m.; Days of Our Lives, 1:30 p.m.; The Doctors, 2:30 p.m.; Another World, 3 p.m.

No Days pre-emption listed on chart.

WTOC (Savannah) Love of Life, 11:30 a.m.; Young and the Restless, noon; Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Guiding Light, 2:30 p.m.

Days pre-empted on March 8 for First Ladies Diaries.

One station aired Mike Douglas instead of Edge of Night. The other ran the Mickey Mouse Club.

    December 1978

WSAV (Savannah), WTOC (Savannah) Days of Our Lives, 1:30 p.m.; The Doctors, 2:30 p.m.; Another World, 3 p.m.

  4. I probably have 2-3 more listings for some of these channels, but I know of a few free newspaper listings sites from the south that will have other grids.

    December 1959

WCTV does not run a full soap schedule.

WSB (Atlanta) and WALB (Albany) Young Dr. Malone, 3 p.m.; From These Roots, 3:30 p.m.; House on High Street, 4 p.m.

Look who's now with (all) the program(s). Search for Tomorrow and Guiding Light are now airing on WCTV. Rural Report was moved to 1 p.m.

WSB (Atlanta) and WALB (Albany) Young Dr. Malone, 3 p.m.; From These Roots, 3:30 p.m.

  5. Georgia stations, unless noted.

    October 1978

WXIA shifted some of its soaps to morning hours.

WSB (Atlanta), WALB (Albany) Days of Our Lives, 1:30 p.m.; The Doctors, 2 p.m.; Another World, 3 p.m.

WRBL (Columbus), WTVY (Dothan AL), WCTV (Tallahassee FL), WMAZ (Macon) Love of Life, 11:30 a.m.; Young and the Restless, noon; Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Guiding Light, 2:30 p.m.

    November 1974

    WXIA has another time adjustment.

WRLB (Columbus), WTVY (Dothan AL), WCTV (Tallahassee FL) Love of Life, 11:30 a.m.; Young and the Restless, noon; Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Guiding Light, 2 p.m.; Edge of Night, 2:30 p.m.

WMAZ (Macon) ran a standard CBS soap schedule in August 1976, with General Hospital at 9:30 a.m. General Hospital was not listed on WMAZ TV schedules I have for September 1976.

  6. 16 minutes ago, Wendy said:

To clarify from the list above for anyone, WALB is for Albany, GA, not Albany, NY.  :)  (I live around the latter, and that was never one of the call signs here.)

Yep. WALB went on the air in 1954. It's still the flagship station of southwestern Georgia. It was the first station in the area, though on a good day the WJXT signal would carry that far. WCTV began airing in 1955.

A couple more for the night.

    December 1971

    Georgia stations, unless noted.

CBS affiliates WRBL (Columbus), WTVY (Dothan AL), WJXT (Jacksonville FL), WCTV (Tallahassee FL) and WMAZ (Macon) all run the same soap schedule:
Love of Life, 11:30 a.m.; Where the Heart Is (noon); Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Love is a Many Splendored Thing, 2 p.m.; Guiding Light, 2:30 p.m.; Secret Storm, 3 p.m.; Edge of Night, 3:30 p.m.

WTVM (Columbus): All My Children, 1 p.m.; General Hospital, 3 p.m.; One Life to Live, 3:30 p.m.

    WALB (Albany): Days of Our Lives, 2 p.m.; The Doctors, 2:30 p.m.; Another World, 3 p.m., Bright Promises, 3:30 p.m.; Somerset, 4 p.m.

    October 1969

It looks like the area finally got a real ABC affiliate in 1969. Primary CBS station WMAZ actually used a bit of its secondary ABC affiliation.

WRBL, WTVY, WJXT, WCTV and WMAZ all ran this schedule:
Love of Life, 11:30 a.m.; Where the Heart Is, noon; Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Love is a Many Splendored Thing, 2 p.m.; Guiding Light, 2:30 p.m.; Secret Storm, 3 p.m.; Edge of Night, 3:30 p.m.

WMAZ (Macon) additionally ran Dark Shadows at 4 p.m.

WTVM (Columbus): The Doctors, 2:30 p.m.; General Hospital, 3 p.m.; One Life to Live, 3:30 p.m.; Dark Shadows, 4 p.m.

WALB (Albany): Days of Our Lives, 2 p.m.; The Doctors, 2:30 p.m.; Another World, 3 p.m.

Instead of Bright Promise at 3:30, WALB ran You Don't Say in that slot.

  7. September 1963
No ABC stations in the area. WJXT was CBS, but had a secondary ABC affiliation at this time. It did not run ABC soaps. WCTV (also CBS) also had a secondary ABC affiliation, but was not running a full slate of CBS soaps, much less anything of ABC.

WJXT (Jacksonville FL): Love of Life, noon; Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; Guiding Light, 12:45 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Edge of Night, 3:30 p.m.; Secret Storm, 4 p.m.

WCTV (Tallahassee FL): Love of Life, noon; Guiding Light, 12:45 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Edge of Night, 3:30 p.m.; Secret Storm, 4 p.m. WCTV aired a CBS news program at 12:30.

WALB (Albany): The Doctors, 2:30 p.m.

    August 1960
ABC affiliations work the same way in 1960 as they do in 1963. WCTV and WJXT both have secondary affiliations behind CBS, but aren't using soap programming from them. WCTV ran even less of the CBS soap schedule at this time.

WJXT (Jacksonville FL): Clear Horizon, 11:30 a.m.; Love of Life, noon; Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; Guiding Light, 12:45 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:45 p.m.; Full Circle, 2 p.m.; The Brighter Day, 4 p.m.; Secret Storm, 4:15 p.m.; Edge of Night, 4:30 p.m.

WCTV (Tallahassee FL): Far Horizon*, 11:30 a.m.; Love of Life, noon; Full Circle, 2 p.m.; The Brighter Day, 4 p.m.; Secret Storm, 4:15 p.m.

    * Misprint of Clear Horizon?

WALB (Albany): Young Dr. Malone, 3 p.m.; From These Roots, 3:30 p.m.

  8. I have a handful of southern Georgia TV grids I'll flip through. I don't know standard air times for everyone, so I'll list everyone the grid.

    August 1975

WMAZ (Macon): General Hospital, 9:30 a.m.; Love of Live, 11:30 a.m.; Young and the Restless, noon; Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Guiding Light, 2 p.m.; Edge of Night, 2:30 p.m.

WRLB (Columbus): Love of Life, 11:30 a.m.; Young and the Restless, noon; Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Guiding Light, 2 p.m.; Edge of Night, 2:30 p.m.

WCTV (Tallahassee FL): Love of Life, 11:30 a.m.; Young and the Restless, noon; Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Guiding Light, 2 p.m.; Edge of Night, 2:30 p.m.

WTVY (Dothan AL)*: Love of Life, 11:30 a.m.; Young and the Restless, noon; Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Guiding Light, 2 p.m.; Edge of Night, 2:30 p.m.

WAGA (Atlanta): Love of Life, 11:30 a.m. No other soaps listed on afternoon grid, but nothing else was listed in those slots, either.

WSB (Atlanta): Days of Our Lives, 1:30 p.m.; Doctors, 2:30 p.m.; Another World, 3 p.m. No other soaps listed on afternoon grid, but nothing else was listed in those slots, either.

    WTVM (Columbus): All My Children, 12:30 p.m.; Ryan's Hope, 1 p.m.; General Hospital, 3 p.m.; One Life to Live, 3:30 p.m.

    WALB (Albany): Days of Our Lives, 1:30 p.m.; Doctors, 2:30 p.m.; Another World, 3 p.m.; Somerset, 4 p.m.

    WQXI (Atlanta): All My Children, 12:30 p.m.; Ryan's Hope, 1 p.m.; General Hospital, 3 p.m.; One Life to Live, 3:30 p.m.

    * WTVY is Central Time. Everyone is Eastern. Don't know if Dothan was showing these at the times listed for Eastern or Central time zones.

    September 1968

Southern Georgia apparently could not pick up ABC over the air at this time. Their ABC coverage was a bit iffy until 1982 when the area actually got an ABC affiliate.

WRBL (Columbus): Love of Life, noon; Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Love is a Many Splendoured Thing, 2 p.m.; Guiding Light, 2:30 p.m.; Secret Storm, 3 p.m.; Edge of Night, 3:30 p.m.

WTVY (Dothan AL): Love of Life, noon; Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Love is a Many Splendoured Thing, 2 p.m.; Guiding Light, 2:30 p.m.; Secret Storm, 3 p.m.; Edge of Night, 3:30 p.m. WTVY times are for the Central Time Zone.

WJXT (Jacksonville FL): Love of Life, noon; Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Love is a Many Splendoured Thing, 2 p.m.; Guiding Light, 2:30 p.m.; Secret Storm, 3 p.m.; Edge of Night, 3:30 p.m.

WCTV (Tallahassee FL): Love of Life, noon; Search for Tomorrow, 12:30 p.m.; As the World Turns, 1:30 p.m.; Love is a Many Splendoured Thing, 2 p.m.; Guiding Light, 2:30 p.m.; Secret Storm, 3 p.m.; Edge of Night, 3:30 p.m.

WALB (Albany): Days of Our Lives, 2 p.m.; The Doctors, 2:30 p.m.; Another World, 3 p.m.

I'll dig up more of these if anyone's curious.

  9. My area did not get ABC until 1982. About 12 years later, the station went dark. I don't know if basic cable carried another ABC affiliate. Satellite dish people could get ABC, but only if they asked for a waiver, which gave them a New York affiliate.

I wonder how much flow changed on television in the 80s from previous years, due to more people having VHS in their homes, cable tv, and better remote controls. The whole you watch a certain channel all day became less of a thing when one had more options for programming.

NBC was that station here. It was the only one that provided local news coverage. I think that does have something to do with NBC soaps' popularity in the area. I only knew of one person who watched Y&REverybody watched Days of Our Lives. I was told a story that local teachers were sneaking in at recess to watch Days on a classroom TV during the Salem Strangler storyline.

I've read some articles about this woman, who recorded news broadcasts from 1975-2012. Surely someone did that with soaps?!

    There is stuff out there.

I was recently asked to convert some relatives' home movies to DVD. Thing is, most of the VHS tapes from the aunt's home  were unlabeled and her kids threw every one of them in a box, labeled or not. While most are events like Little Mary's first Christmas, 4-5 tapes were exclusively taped from TV.

Among the bounty are two episodes of Knots Landing from either 1986 or 1987 and two episodes of Another World from December 1987.

I had heard a rumor that lisanne was intended as a love interest for Shane Donovan.. but I guess the actor left shortly after she started..and sp shr floundered before being killed off months later.

Herring announced she was leaving in September 1992, about six months after she started. There was talk of making Lisanne Shane's love interest that summer in a few columns, but that didn't seem to progress on screen past a conversation or two as they were aiding Carly's search for Nikki.

Patsy Pease as Kimberly was back soon after.

Don't know if it nipped a potential romance with Shane and Lisanne, but Pease's return seemingly did alter Shane's storyline. Shane was paralyzed since a January explosion, but with Kimberly back, Shane naturally got over that really quickly and the focus became Kimberly's latest crises.

Charles Shaughnessy did announce he was leaving about a month before Herring, but by this point Lisanne was exclusively in the Carly/Vivian/Lawrence orbit.

Can someone else me with this? Years ago there was this Australian site that did recaps of old episodes of Days, 90s Reilly-era Days, I think they got the show maybe 5 years after it aired. I remember them being hilarious, full of screencaps and synopses and my first introduction to the show. Does anyone remember the name of that site?

I'm assuming it's Days Downunder. Only bits and pieces are still operational on Internet Archive, but it seems to fit the bill.

It looks like these videos were downloaded from the "wayback machine archive" I would love to see the first ever Y&R (or Sony) site if it's still archived....if anything to see the daily recaps they have from 94/95.

The Internet Archive generally goes back to 1996.

Here is the first daytime homepage archived from CBS, from December 1996.

Y&R homepage, from the same date.

SoapCity, which also had a ton of good stuff back in the day, dates back to 1998 on the Internet Archive.

If you play around with the Internet Archive saved stuff from the early 2000s from CBS, you'll run into some issues with the programming language used on the site - some links just won't go anywhere because the whole script didn't save or doesn't translate. You have to horse around and find a link to something else in that section to be able to dig through it. It's also extremely rare for videos to have survived from that time period.

EDIT: The .avi video linked in that initial Y&R link actually does work. The video codec isn't installed on my computer, but the audio does play.
