  1. Music rights are very difficult to negotiate. It took years before WKRP in Cincinnati had a proper release.

Then you also have the consider proper compensation for everyone involved with the show. B&B seems to have figured something out with their (foreign only?) DVD releases, but I doubt that soap contracts had many lines about rebroadcast. SoapNet probably forced some changes.

I think the greatest possibility is a streaming service, but whether it's worth the time and energy for compensation, plus the hassle of distribution as compared to the amount of subscribers it would actually get remains to be seen. I would imagine that most if not all the remaining soaps have investigated it to some extent.

Right now, I'd settle for soap mags to be digitized.

  2. Based on old newspaper stuff I can find, Gideon took over the role as Y&R moved to 60 minutes long in February 1980.

By late March, it was reported that audiences weren't taking kindly to her. In May, someone wrote a letter to a soap column asking if Jill was still part of the show, so it looks like Bell limited the character at that point. Adair took over the role by late September.

  3. Thanks for explaining the story, but with that last sentence, does it mean the vigilantly-ism turned out to be a dream?

It was definitely real and in retrospect quite bizarre that Jonah was kicked out of medical school, but they had no problem admitting Lexie.

This was one of the first storylines I can recall after I started watching Days and actually I remembered something else: Lexie and someone else were on patrol that night and they split up to look for the Pacifier. She caught him and took off his ski mask. Jonah convinced her to let him go and she told the other cop that he had escaped (or she didn't see him at all, whatever it was).

Lexie had a bit of an infatuation with Jonah, though it never became a full affair. Jonah was more fascinated with Wendy Reardon.

  4. What was the Pacifier story? This must have been before my time.

In 1993, Jonah Carver was being Batman, working under the cover of night and tying up criminals and shoving a pacifier in their mouths. The police weren't happy that someone was interfering with their work. Lexie caught him in the act one night and he talked her into not ratting him out to Abe. She ended up joining him and of course, Abe eventually found out about both of them.

Jonah had been in med school, but was kicked out and Lexie had been in the police academy and was booted. Later, Lexie went to medical school and I think referenced it as being Jonah's dream.

  5. Brian Wilson (sorta) live. It's nearly identical to the album version.

One of his best from his solo career. His voice is understandably more ragged than in his youth, but I'm not sure if a young Brian Wilson could sing this with more emotion.

  6. Fascinating comments from Aneta. I'd love to see that. I never knew she was on a soap.

She was also on Days in 1984 in a very short-term role as Blanche Dailey.

Here's one clip I found of her from Days. I hadn't been aware that she ever appeared on a soap, either, until I was watching clips from the Prism storyline and recognized her voice. Surprised me.
