I said in another post...that mouthy little Douglas sure does say alot but he never says that Daddy told him to say it?  Daddy helped me draw pictures for you?

That would be too innovative for Brad Bell to think of.

Exactly.  I remember when as a kid, even older than Douglas, how my older brother would have me tell someone on the phone or at the door asking for him that he was not home and I would proceed and tell them that "He said he's not here."  LOL!

It's probably just a coincidence that Colleen Bell was also in the diplomatic core (under the same administration that Nicole Avant) served in around the same time that Maya Avant first appeared onscreen. It's definitely worth a watch.  It's just that Avant seems to know everyone in Hollywood, some on an acquaintance level.  Still it is a fascinating documentary that gives additional context to some events that I'd heard of (e.g. the feud between Don Cornelius and Dick Clark, instigated by Clark, imo).

I'd be interested in knowing your thoughts on the documentary, it's got some very interesting stuff.

I didn't even think of the Colleen Bell connection.  I bet you're right!

It's in my queue.  Have you watched "American Soul" on BET?  I know a lot of it is fictionalized, but they touched a little bit on the Don Cornelius/Dick Clark feud in the first season.

They've  wasted one of the most beautiful black men on daytime by not using Carter!

His appearances seem to be relegated to marriages and annulments nowadays.  Clearly Brad Bell is not interested in either character, but I'm surprised they haven't put Carter and Maya back together.  Even if off-screen or an occasional scene together.

This a a bit Off-Topic, I was watching a Netflix documentary called The Black Godfather, a man by the name of Clarence Avant, who became a highly influential figure in the music/entertainment business and occasionally branched into civil rights issues. He's not into organized crime but the man seems to know everybody!  Anyway, he has a daughter by the name of...wait for it, Nicole Avant, who was an ambassador to the Bahamas from 2009-2011.  Do you think it's possible that Brad Bell knows the real Avants?

Given Brad Bell's history with Black folks on the show, I'd be surprised.  LOL!  But he (or someone else from the writing team) probably had heard of their story and appropriated their names.

Sounds like an interesting documentary. I'll have to add it to my queue.

  4. LOL! Yeah, Taylor was around when he first returned.  She was encouraging a Hope/Thomas relationship so that Liam would be free to go back to Steffy.  This added to the conflict Taylor and Brooke had at the time, along with Taylor kissing Ridge. There appeared to be a a story developing, then they shipped her off with Steffy and no one knows where she is now.

I wonder if she's having an off screen fling with Dr. Buckingham and they'll both pop up when the truth comes out abouy Beth?

  5. More Psycho Thomas stuff today.  He does his best American Psycho impression in front of a mirror, forces Douglas to attend a barbecue that he doesn't want to attend so he can use him to get Hope, and buys some pills from a friend.  Is he about to drug Hope and rape her?  Or did he already drug her, causing her to think Phoebe was Beth (well, she is, but she doesn't know it yet)?  I'm not sure if Hope calling NotPhoebe Beth was just a accidental slip or if she's actually thinking she's holding Beth.

So I decided to stream Monday and Tuesday episodes after not watching for months. Xanax is so dead, which is OK.

Do we know for sure that it was DumbAs' car that was directly behind BlechEmma's? It was heavily implied. Did they actually cut to Thomas driving behind her showing he was the one who was tailgating her. If not, that's a big out.

They showed Thomas's POV of the accident today.  He was blowing his horn (which I don't believe we heard in the previous episodes ... somebody's sleeping at the wheel) trying to get her to pull over.  So, technically, he didn't intentionally try to run her over.  BUT he also didn't try to help her, didn't call 911, and he just left her for dead after giving one of his signature (or only) crazy eye look as he glared down the cliff at her car and waited for her to "pass out."

Things that made me go "Huh?" at Emma's memorial service-type thingy: Why were folks like Quinn acting like they had any association with Emma?  How did I forget that Emma was a Barber?  How did Brooke turn Emma's death into a pity party for Hope?  I mean, how inconvenient that she died.  What did I miss when CBS News interrupted for a few minutes for a non-story?  The previews said the Avants would be there, too, but where were they (unless Myra popped up during the CBS News interruption)?

Haven't watched but have heard of the complaining about Thomas and the story. It's sad when you have to write a character out of character to fit the story line. I should've known Thomas would be ruined when they recast with that particular actor.

Ha, he does have the "crazy eyes" look, so I guess it was inevitable.  I guess this is the reason Taylor couldn't be around, cause she should have been able to see something was off with her son. Then again, she was practically the one to initiate this whole Thomas and Hope being together thing so Liam could be with Steffy.

Not that it seems to matter anymore, but if they were going to go in this direction with Thomas, why not have it revealed that he, not Taylor, shot Bill? And she covered for him and sent him off to "get help."  There were rumors about this last winter when Taylor was freaking out about it and Brooke found out. When this Thomas first appeared when have been a good time to make that tie. I'm not sure it there would be a point now.

  8. LOL! I'm watching today's episode now and as soon as I saw the Emma flashbacks I was like "Yep, something's going to go down with her."  I guess we're being reminded how how much of a Hope/Hope For the Future fanatic she was so it'll make sense that she won't be as easily swayed from telling Hope the truth if she finds out. Plus there might be some risidual ill will towards Zoe since she stole her man.

Oh, and may I add that I didn't quite get nuThomas appeal until they put him in those jeans he's been wearing the last couple of episodes.  Not that that will change my opinion of him or anything. Ha!

EDIT: Finished the episode. Yep, Emma is a goner. Bye Felisha! I think the show is now out of any more irrelevant characters to overhear the truth. So let's finished this thang.

  9. I think Emm-zzz-a will be found dead.  Most everyone is going to suspect that Suddenly Off His Rocker Thomas did it (yesterday Brooke reminded Hopeless that "Thomas is the most unstable one" in his family).  Detectives Always Eating a Hot Dog Baker and Token Latino Sanchez will return and go hard after Thom-ass.  But before he gets properly fitted in a Forrester Original prison jumpsuit, it'll be revealed that Dr. Wayne Brady murdered the long absent Dancing Queen Wannabe.

  10. Wow.  Watching today's show live.  Thomas has truly turned into a mustache twirling douchebag villain.  It's laughable.  I want someone to clock him so bad.  Yet everyone acts so scared of this punk.  Someone needs to check him so bad.

I seriously think Brad Bell is just waiting for the show to be cancelled.  And every year it is renewed, he's like "Oh, @#$%!"

  11. xtr, that wouldn't surprise me at all.  This show.  Sheesh!

Is Flo the most bi-polar character ever?  I swear her mood on telling the truth changes depending on who she's talking to, conveniently.  If someone's pushing her to to keep the secret, she INSISTS everyone needs to know.  If someone urges her to reveal the truth, she freaks and is dead set against it.  There is no consistency with her character or this entire show.  The show is clearly trying to drag this story out for as long as they can, and I don't understand why.  Brad Bell on vacay?  It made sense at first that they wanted to wait until JMW returned, but I can't figure out why this story is on repeat/filler mode right now.  And its literally the ONLY story going.  WTF?!?!?!?!

  12. That's exactly where I think this story is going ... except the murder mystery will be over the death of someone like Xander or Zoe.  Only to be revealed that it was Wayne Brady, er, Dr. Buckingham that did it.  He murders his own daughter to keep the baby swap secret that was done to ... protect Zoe from the Vegas gambling mafia.  That seems about right.  LOL!

The more I think about it, Zoe's murder is making more and more sense.  Absent her father, she seems to be receiving most of the ire in this mess from everyone from Flo and her mama to her own boyfriend, and I'm sure everyone else that will discover the truth will be giving her a piece of their mind. While Flo will come out at the end of this smelling like roses.  Because, you know, Dr. Buckingham and Zoe put a gun to her head and forced her to play along ... wait, what you mean that's not how it happened?  You mean Flo could have told Doc Wayne Brady to kick rocks and told everyone the truth at any point during this story without any consequences to herself???

Definitely tuning in for some of today to see Xander (after he busts into the Forrester mansion for no real reason - that Hope and Liam should know something isn't right)....and have yet another person not be able to say "Beth isn't Dead...she's Phoebe!"  Instead we'll have 1/2 hour of dialogue - "don't speak.  We're signing our annullment papers".  "But I have something to SAY!"  "this is a private moment...do not speak".  "But I have something IMPORTANT TO TELL YOU!" "Can you please leave us alone.  This is a private matter."  "BUT I REALLY HAVE SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO SAY and it could AFFECT your DECISION to SIGN THOSE PAPERS!"  Hope:  "XANDER...there is nothing you could say that could ever ever change my mind.  Our marriage is over"   Xander: "BUT HOPE...PLEEASE PLEAAAAASE LISTEN TO ME!  I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW!!!"  Hope: "Xander - your place is not to be here.  I loved my Beth and she's DEAD and I need to move on with my life."  Xander:  "BUT THAT'S WHAT I"M trying to TELL YOU!"

Enter Zoe/Scary Spice:  "XANDER is trying to tell you how sorry he is.  That's why he's here. ISN'T IT XANDER!?  THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE TRYING TO TELL HOPE AND LIAM.  You're SORRY ABOUT BETH BEING DEAD!?"

Liam's phone rings....it's Steffy.  Kelly is dying and he must run to Steffy and be with the girls.

Blah blah blah.  It will be something like that.  Or Creepy Thomas tackles Xander from upstairs because he really wasn't listening.  And tells Xander he must LET Hope make her own decision and sign THE PAPERS!  And Xander says...Ok, I really didn't have anything to say....sorry guys!  Sorry everyone!

That would have been better actually.  The writing of late just so ... DUMB.

  14. That was the most aggravating 5-6 minutes at the beginning of today's episode.  I'm yelling at the screen for Xander to just blurt out "Beth's alive."  Ughh ... and then jhe just lets Thomas bully him.  Speaking of, I'm completely through with this Thomas.  There's not one thing about him that I find likeable, except that he's Taylor's son and I'd hate for the show to off another one of her children.  But, now I feel they might as well go complete psycho/villain with him at this point and send him off to the psych ward or something until they can give him a better story and actor.  I will admit that he does have a bit of that Ronn Moss's Ridge vibe going on.  That arrogant jerk you just want to punch.  But the actor and the writing isn't bringing anything to counter-balance that.

Im waiting for this summers extreme storyline makeover. I would have never guessed that even Steffys return does not put an end to this bore fest. Where is Taylor? Where is any decent story besides the thirtysomethings? Where are the location shoots?

I was really hoping that her return would coincide with the baby swap reveal.  But no luck.  Ugh.  This story is too boring, repetitive, and depressing for a summer story.  And, yes, where's Taylor???  She supposedly went to Europe with Steffy to help her take care of the babies, but then they they would show the nanny with her instead.  And isn't she supposed to be starting up her practice again?  There's quite a few characters on the show right now that can use a psychiatrist.  Starting with her son.  LOL!  And Hope!  Lawd Jezus!  I'm still trying to understand her twisted logic.

Lyla owned her own home and at times, decided to let out a few rooms, here and there to people, mainly employees at the hospital where she worked as a nurse.  Ironically, Casey, who later became her husband, had been one of the first people who rented a room in her house when he found the hospital resident doctor's housing inadequate.

Dusty and then Meg, who both worked at Oakdale Memorial hospital, were the other two residents who let rooms in Lyla's house.

Dusty, after a falling out with John, moved out of the penthouse and to Lyla's.  For a time he lived with Lucinda and John at Lucinda's estate but felt uncomfortable because Lily lived there.  At the time, Lily and Holden were at a tempestuous point in their relationship and Lily was constantly running to Dusty, which angered Holden and Dusty got tired of being an unwilling participant in Lily and Holden's relationship drama. Also Dusty still had feelings for Lily, so he moved back to Lyla's for awhile.  Until Dusty left for Harvard, he sort of went back and forth.

Meg, eager to hide her blossoming romantic relationship with Tonio (who was separated from Sierra but not yet officially divorced), moved away from the farm under the guise of being closer to the hospital, where she was enrolled in the Nursing program.

Dusty and Lyla had a prior relationship because of Lyla's relationship to John but it's not like they had been super close, or anything.

Dusty became close to Casey, who often went as a go-between John and Dusty.  Once Dusty moved to Lyla's, I think that's when he became close to both of them as he was the first person they confided in about their romantic relationship.  Dusty was stunned at first but didn't judge and soon became a champion of the pairing, even convincing a snooping, initially judgemental Meg to mind her own business about it.  As Meg fell in love with Tonio amid all the criticisms of the relationship (including the age difference), Meg became more sympathetic of Lyla and Casey's relationship, even guarding details against prying questions from hospital colleagues.

Tonio even once suggested that Meg could use what she knew about Casey and Lyla to somehow gain leverage over them (both were still somewhat keeping their relationships under wraps at that time) but Meg refused to do so.

Thanks so much for this.  You're awesome!

For some reason ATWT history is a bit more difficult for me to grasp than GL.  It seems like ATWT has had many more significant characters or stories over the years to follow.

What you posted reminded me of this scene on ATWT.  Watch the scene from 8:00 until at least 10:10.  I mean, what in the name of all freakiness?!

LMAO!  I had to watch that several times.  Dusty's reaction is priceless.  I had to dig out my old As the World Turns 40th anniversary scrapbook to try to understand the relationship between Dusty and Lyla and Casey, but it didn't help much.  I figured out that Lyla ran a boarding house (boarding houses must have been popular back in the 80s and 90s) and assume the Dusty was staying there, maybe?  Was Lyla kind of a mother figure for Dusty or something?  I see that she was involved with John Dixon who was Dusty's guardian.  Lawd, this show's history is confusing.

Anyway, so these freaks Lyla and Casey just leave the door open for any boarder to walk by and watch them get it on?  LOL!

  18. Nobody shuts doors or they don't make sure it is closed all the way, leaving a gap so someone can eavesdrop unnoticed.  Knowing darn well theyre about to talk about something they dont want anyone else to hear.  And they NEVER lock their doors. They even leave the front door to their home open like they're living in a barn.  This sometimes happen in primetime and movies too, especially if it single camera and the camera person is following through the door. But that's usually not the case on soaps.

  19. Speaking of soap interruptions, it always annoys me how the local news would break into the show for just the slightest chance of a storm.  With the CBS soaps, you used to be able to count on this rule of thumb: if more than half the show was pre-empted on the east coast, the episode would re-air the next day while they'd air a re-run on the west coast (if it was national news) or in the middle of the night (it it was local news.  If less than half the show was pre-empted, you were out of luck.  Nowadays they can pre-empt an entire episode and you'll have to go online to watch it because they'll continue with the next episode the next day.  Also, you used to be able to tell which soaps were more important to the network or local station based on how long and how frequent they would interrupt.  The local news would typically try to "get back to the show" if Y&R was on, but by the time Guiding Light came on, they would have no problem interrupting for long periods of time even if they were just repeating the same thing over and over again.
