  1. I'm one who's been of the belief we have been on that path for sometime now(diminishing superpower). It's happened to countries like Great Britain and France. China has become more innovative, more intellectually superior, they have better education, they are producing the top STEM students in the world, and are very close to topping the size of our economy. The people who voted him in don't care about us being a superpower or having international presence and influence. In fact they believe it's the most Anti-American aspect of the current United States. Take all that in. It's true.
  2. So at the end of the day it was voter turnout = down to 2000 levels and the dropoff again was young people. That is similar to Brexit.
  3. By who? Latinx voters showed up in droves this election and the only reason for AA vote to possibly be down in some areas is sue to voter suppression. I totally put this on white women. And I can say this being one of them. It sickens me. But women can actually be far more judgmental of each other than men.
  4. I have zero sympathy for anyone in the MSM who were all on board normalizing this idiot.
  5. Well I bet ISIS is just chomping on the bit now. This is going to help escalate their recruiting across the world tremendously. After all the anti muslim rhetoric, the 1.3 billion muslims in the world are just going to love Americans even more.
  6. I have to apologize to Carl because never in my lifetime did I ever believe this could happen but I guess all the signs were there. The most chilling statistic is the percentage of white female voters who apparently voted for him. I can't fathom that one bit. And no this doesn't go on the heads of any POC or minorities it's on us. This is 100 times worse than Bush. We will get through this but it's going to lead to a wave worldwide that's already begun in some places. It's just hard for me to believe that we elected President Obama 8 years ago and this is the result of that underlying resentment and hatred, because I don't buy the economic anxiety crap or the being fed up with Washington, when most of the people running for the Senate and House were re-elected.
  7. No I think Miami Dade and Broward still out
  8. I am honestly shocked at this point. I honestly never believed it would be this close. This says so much about my fellow Americans and not in a good way
  9. Maybe it is. I guess I don't look at it the same way, but in those terms I can see your point. But look at the democrats. Clinton won the nomination by over 4 million votes and there are still people crying about the nomination being stolen from Bernie. Obama and Clinton in 2008 had a much nastier primary season than Clinton Sanders but people expected her to cave in and give her support to Obama a heck of a lot sooner than Bernie supporters did for her. Same double standard applied to the male vs female. And yes she did the right thing by helping Obama and conceding when she did. Why wasn't the same expected for Sanders, who wasn't even a democrat before 2016. OT In Chicago turnout is expected to be at 79%. So far it's at 55%. And the largest voting block so far. People 18-29.
  10. I honestly think it's less about that and more about the strong man appeal. I know people have their opinions, but the one thing I am really appalled at in terms of coverage is how NO ONE has talked about gender as a factor. I worked in one of the most gender biased fields for years, technology, and I can't tell you how much the gender bias impacted my own career. I had to fight and claw for everything and work 10 times harder as one of my cubicle mates in my early years would play tetris on his computer all day. Hillary Clinton's biggest flaw is not her alleged lack of charisma, her elitism, her so called lies, it's all of this multiplied by 1000 because of her gender. Tell me how this election would have done had Joe Biden run.
  11. I wonder what people think is going to happen to conservatives and I mean people who are real conservatives after this election. And to me a real conservative goes back to someone like Nixon minus the racism, southern strategy, and paranoia. More like a Rockefeller type. And I do think there are many out there who do believe in less government, lower taxes, but still believe in investing in our country. I have found myself paying attention a bit more to Evan McMullin. He's obviously too conservative for me, but I do like how he talks about America first, wants to reach out to disenfranchised Americans(minorities), not that his policies necessarily jive, but I wonder if there is a place for more thoughtful reasonable conservatives.
  12. I agree. I was listening to a radio program last week and they were actually discussing automation in the trucking industry. I honestly didn't realize it's as close as they were claiming it is. Long term training and transitioning people is the only way to go. I read an article a few weeks back comparing the dying of the mftg industry to the pains felt when the world moved from agriculture into the industrial revolution and there was a lot of pain surrounding that. Lots of people moved out of necessity sure but a lot of it was also opportunity to earn and learn more.
  13. More Latinx numbers Latino turnout up 147% in Georgia. Just amazing! Thank u Trump 4 doing what no voter reg drive alone could have done.
  14. The sad part about the manufacturing con job Trump and the GOP have been running with is that more mftg jobs have been lost to things like robotics and automation than to China or Mexico. I'm not sold on the idea of retraining millions upon millions that HRC is talking about, but infrastructure jobs where we invest in things like clean energy might be a good starting point. Lots of people got training though the WPA during the depression, skills that helped them for years.
  15. And for those who think minorities can be discouraged from voting from the white MSM and white press, here are some stats from Florida +453.8K Latinos voted early in Florida, that's an increase of 86.9% compared to 2012, many of these are less than likely voters also.
  16. The Beltway wisdom has been dead for years. They are the epitome of white elitists and while Barack Obama elected should have taught them something, this election should show them how really out of touch they are. And that this country is not just about working class white men. This election season has cost me a few friends, but I have also made some closer friends. Latinx and African American women who I have worked with for several years and realized I have more in common with them than I do some of my older friends. And they have also opened my eyes to things I have known but pushed aside. Pant Suit Nation on facebook, a private facebook group was started 2 weeks ago by a Hillary supporter and now has almost 2 million members. On it are women and men of all ages and colors enthused about Hillary, sharing their own stories(some are truly heartbreaking) and enthusiasm. This is where people go and what people do when they can't find what they are looking for in traditional forums they start their own. The founder is amazed at it's popularity. The point is if the traditional media and press sources want to stay relevant they will need to recognize America is no longer even moderate right. It's moderate left. And younger people who have no thoughts of race or gender, have no fear of immigrants, actually care about climate change(something no one in the press or MSM has talked about AT ALL) are helping us all move forward along with many of us who are older and know that forward is the only way to go.
  17. Well that will certainly help GOTV. For women.
  18. They only depress turnout to those who think blacks and latinos pay one bit of attention to the white press and MSM.
  19. So as of end of day yesterday, 2016 Early black voting in Florida surpassed Obama's numbers by around 35,000 votes. And that doesn't include today which was Souls to the Polls in Florida So much for the black vote being down. It's sad that Ari Berman along with people like Joy Reid, Rachel Maddow, and Lawrence O'Donnell are really the only people writing and talking about voter suppression this election.
  20. The FBI under Comey has shown their colors and the organization has leaks galore. Those agents need to go but it's also a prime example of poor leadership. He does need to resign
  21. Princeton Election Consordium
  22. He is overly compensating and he's even been caught unskewing polls and his explanation frankly didn't make sense. I think who's especially getting under his skin are the PEC followers(Sam Wang). Wang is the only one from close to the beginning who predicted Trump was going to win and everyone laughed at him. He stood his ground. And people also talk to Silver and Wang about Brexit while Silver insists the polling got it wrong and Wang said from the beginning polling was a tossup. I think it kills Nate that Wang has been the most accurate predictor in 2008, 2012 and now but unlike Silver, Wang does this more as a side project because he knows people are interested and he's interested. And his predictions in all the elections including the senate elections in both years were 100% correct. Silver may have gotten the presidential race in 2012 and all the states right but he didn't get the senate correct. Wang is a good guy and conceded to Silver on the Baseball playoffs because he doesn't "know" baseball but otherwise the election? Those were Wang's words not mine lol. Silver has almost turned into a pundit. Some of those articles on 538 are utterly ridiculous and worthless.
  23. I don't want to put you on ignore. I enjoy reading a lot of what you post. And maybe the pessimism is something I tend to see in myself. And if I sounded condescending I apologize. This election more than any other is very personal for me for many reasons. The gender card is something so many want to ignore because she's Hillary Clinton but to me it stands front and center in terms of everything else and explains the negativity everywhere about her.
  24. NC and FL have been close so what is the news there. Michigan I don't buy and NH has likely tightened. But I will ask you again. Have you been paying attention to the fact Latinx voting is up this year by 130%? Do you know Latinx's are underpolled(Obama was polled to win Nevada by 2% in 2012 and won by 6%) and the turnout is much higher than 2008? I don't know what to tell you. One of the Nevada polls I saw had 0 latinx's in it so with the incredible turnout for Latinx's you think those polls are accurate. I work with 3 latinx teachers and we have discussed the election off and on for months and they have ALL said Latinx people are going to turn out this year like you have never seen. And they have all said Univision and Telemundo have been hammering Trump for months as well as Latinx radio and papers. They all said turnout was going to be high in 2016 for Latinx voters and was going to be their year. And it's way up in Florida in fact much higher than even Clinton's campaign projected. I guess if you want to continue to be pessimistic that's fine but when there is actual evidence seen yesterday in Nevada and Arizona that turnout is high(not a poll number) and you'd rather believe polls that doesn't include Latinx voters I can't convince you otherwise. There is always a chance that things could turn out worse but frankly I don't see the evidence myself at this point. I guess we can agree to disagree.
