    March 3: Washington state

March 10: Guam, Kansas, Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands

  2. Did Joann Dorian ever play any major stories with Vicki? I know for a while after Gillian left it seemed Vicki was backburnered (though I believe very very early in Erika's run she had the whole gaslighting storyline with Francesca James as Marcie).

In the OLTL tribute magazine Erika seems to imply she tried hard to get Larry back for the finale--I wonder if they ever considered it. I guess he was just seen as eventually too much of a nice guy, and was aging, to be leading man, but really they shouldhave worked harder to move him into more a patriarch position then.

According to this Dorian didn't do much in the roughly 5 months (Oct. 1970 to Mar. 1971) that she played Viki...

Joanne Dorian replaced Gillian Spencer in the role of Victoria Lord Riley in October 1970. The storyline was Vince Wolek going to trial for the murder of drug dealer Artie Duncan. To help Vince, Viki’s husband Joe Riley went to California to find evidence on the case. While there, his car went off of a cliff. With Joe missing, Spencer’s Viki and her sister Meredith went to California to try to find him. When they returned to Llanview two weeks later, Joanne Dorian was playing Viki.

Joanne Dorian’s Viki was refreshing. Stylistically, her Viki wore a lot of modern day, early 1970s ‘sophisticated lady’ pantsuits and such, and kept her very long hair in an upsweep style that was very becoming to the character. Meanwhile, although Dorian’s Viki was formatted very close to how she had been with Gillian Spencer…what probably hindered her is that she didn’t get to indulge in what at the time had been trademark Viki distinctions. Dorian’s Viki never got to play wife to Joe—as Lee Patterson had left the show before Gillian Spencer did—nor did she ever play Niki Smith. And unlike when Slezak later took over, Dorian’s Viki didn’t interact with future love interest Steve Burke, despite his now being on the canvas. During Dorian’s time on board as Viki, the character was largely isolated to primarily interacting with Victor and Meredith. In mid March 1971, upon the episode commencing, the voice over announcer proclaimed: “The role of Victoria Lord Riley will now be played by Erika Slezak.” The change was very abrupt, as Dorian had just been on the day before.

In conclusion, Joanne Dorian’s Viki can be summed up as amicable. During the actresses brief time onboard, Viki was pretty much a day-to-day, ‘every woman’ character. Her circumstances weren’t especially outrageous, and aside from playing the coping widow of the recently assumed dead Joe Riley, her plotlines weren’t particularly over the top. She, though, would serve as a nice bridge between Spencer and Slezak.

  3. In 1970, it would have still been Gillian Spencer playing Viki since I think I read that Joann Dorian had only been in the role for about 6 months when Erika took over in March of 1971....so if the wedding was in April, Gillian should have still been on the show then.

That being said, I don't know where Viki would have been at that time....it was before my time...lol. I like Khan's answer though. laugh.png

Yep, it would have been Gillian Spencer....Joann Dorian didn't take over as Viki until October 1970.

  4. This is great. Thanks.

That woman next to Joe looks a little like Erika (not her obviously).

  5. I can just imagine Santorum as President. No women in the forces...All gay men get banned from serving our country or walking the good old streets of USA. Men can no longer wear earings in their ears. Adam Lambert must stop wearing makeup...lol..and control his gay patterns.....women cant have babies until they are 50 and so on....lol

As Herman Cain would say: “The more toppings a man has on his pizza, I believe the more manly he is. A manly man don’t want it piled high with vegetables! He would call that a sissy pizza.”

  6. Ha....yeah I can see that in Gingrich...Romney was the rich kid who hid his body with his towel so the guys in the lockeroom wouldnt see his dick...lol..or he was the one who showed it all when he went into the showers..not sure which one he was...lol....Paul...I dont know...not to sure

Santorum just doesn't seem like the manly man type of guy...I have a feeling if a guy went all gay on him he'd like it....lol....

Well he does seem to like to wear a lot of sweaters... tongue.png

  7. Oh I know they are one in the same...they are both awful.....Santorum reminds me of one of those geeks in school who got their underwear stolen in PE class...lol

LOL....and Gingrich was the chubby kid that everybody picked on, Romney was the cool kid who acted like the Fonzn (but no one ever took seriously), and Paul was the loner who was always on the outside looking in.

  8. Somebody edited her Wikipedia page within the past half hour to say that she died in Ottawa, Canada....which is odd, since it looks like she died in L.A..

The page has since been updated to say:

    Death

On February 11, 2012, publicist Kristen Foster revealed Houston had died aged 48.[210][211] A cause and location of death was not immediately given.[210]

  9. Scumbag.Ok.

I agree....so what? I'm not saying that he was right to do that (because he wasn't IMO), but it's not like no other President (Republicans included) have ever done anything like that before.

    So why signal JFK out?

  10. I see some folks have really gone into overdrive trying to save face for Obama's 57 state comment. (By the way, even if there were 57 primaries and caucuses, that still doesn't explain his error, given that he suggested there were three additional states he did not visit; by the reasoning provided by some above, one would thus assume Obama was referring to a total of 60 contests.)

The major reason why I made such a big deal about this whole thing was because holy hell broke loose when Dan Quayle (who, in contrast to Palin and Bachmann, is not someone who views ignorance as a badge of honor) misspelled "potato." The way the Democrats and the media acted was that this mistake alone made Quayle unfit to serve as dog catcher.

As George W. Bush would say:

    "They misunderestimated me."

  11. I didn't have a problem with so much Niki as much as I had a problem with Niki being so OTT and everyone being so stupid. It seems like after the big DID story in 1995 they just made Niki this grab bag of insanity and made her into a monster.

One of the pet peeves I have with soap returns is that they have to matter. For me, it's fine to have people just show up for a few scenes to remember old times. I would have loved a scene like that for Larry and Wanda, just to remind people that OLTL actually did exist before 1986.

Exactly. As far as Ron was concerned OLTL didn't exist befoe the that time and I always hated that about him.

  12. Scotty, I think Michael was 1980 and Amanda was 1981/2. She definitely was done with babies before 1987 unless Judith temped due to illness.

Yeah 1980 and 1981....the Wikipedia article about Viki I got the info. from earlier listed both as maternity leaves, so that's what threw me off, but yeah, you're right.

  13. Thank you CarlD. I only had seen one photo before of Christine playing Viki. Nobody can play Viki like Erika Slezak...never! but i think Christine wasn't a bad choice casting. Even as up to 2008 when she came back for the Jared Banks storyline, she aged pretty well. I saw Gillian Spencer at the AMC funeral for Palmer Cortland and i still can't really picture her playing proper Victoria Lord today. she was much better as the more fun Dasiy Courtland. Although it would have been a hoot if she had temporaly played Viki when Erika had the back surgery a couple of years ago.

Erika was pregnant twice, who played Viki the first time? I know they let her show her pregnancy on the air and made Viki pregnant with Joey at the time. but i don't know who played her during her maturnity leave.

Durink Erika's first pregnancy (late 1980, early 1981) was Christine Jones, and during her second pregnancy in 1987, it was Judith Barcroft who filled in as Viki.

  14. Ginger was killed off. I beleive she died on the operating table while Spencer was working on her. I cant remember what was wrong with her. Shannon lived. She moved away,

Im pretty sure RJ was after Rex. Lindsay was with Rex shortly after he was with Jen and those 2 were together around 2003. RJ was a more recent pairing. I also really hated how the show had Rex steal UV out from under RJ. I wanted RJ to take him out as he was such a punk

Ginger was hit by a car.

And yeah, Shannon just left town and was later forgotten about.
