Maurice Benard was in Overacting Overdrive today.

He’s like an old boxer who can’t quite land the punch anymore. I think he’s trying to showcase Sonny in a manic state but the performances aren’t as solid as they should be. He was better with LW today than he was during the big Sonny and Jason confrontation a couple weeks back where SB kind of put him to shame.

I still think they should have Jake go for a teen boy. Non-actor Aiden and his Easy-Bake 'fro are not story-ready!

The Willow/Drew stuff is finally starting to feel intentional after being very weird for a very long time lol.

Yall are too hard on that kid lol I think he’s alright from the little he’s been given. I’m too invested in Danny and Jake being AJ and Jason 2.0

Willow’s actress has a manipulative twinkle in her eye that the show has not really taken advantage of and CM works best as a horny sanctimonious scoundrel so I hope they really go for it. CD remains an unremarkable actor but I want Michael to do a full heel turn and his wife cheating with his Uncle is the perfect way to do it.

  2. Good show today

Nina vs Ava was fantastic. CW did a great job playing Nina realizing just how badly Ava’s been playing her then Maura West with the heel turn midway basically gloating, delightful to watch. Nina finally got to be played sympathetically as well with that last montage

If you had told me in 2005 Sam would be trying to keep Jason away from their kid I wouldn’t believe it but thats the kind of perspective shift I love that only soaps can do. Their scenes with Danny and Kristina were great

I’ve always felt LW and MB’s best chemistry is when Sonny and Carly are fighting. Sonny’s feelings of betrayal are 100% valid

More Willow and Drew chem testing hmmm….I liked him bringing up Nina in a not so negative way. I really want a nasty love quad with Nina/Drew/Michael/Nina that ends with Michael becoming a sloppy drunk like his daddy and Drew causing havoc like a real Quartermaine.

I actually love that the cast is large, I just think half of the canvas is uninteresting and should be replaced with more dynamic characters. Cody, Sasha, Finn and his entire family should be the first to go. Bring in some young hospital interns, some teen girls for Jake and Danny to fight over, new guys for Trina and Josslyn, etc

  3. I’ve been really enjoying the show the last few weeks. Of all of the soaps I think Corrie utilizes modern tech/social media the best, this Leeanne cult story and Lauren disappearance/Roy witch hunt being great examples of how to modernize old school storyline setups.

  4. The Blaze/Kristina/Natalia material just feels very 2000s. No one would really care about a pop star being gay in 2024.

Don't get me wrong, Sprina had terrific chemistry, but it seems like many on social media are acting as if they were/are the second coming of Greg and Jenny or Jesse and Angie.

Interracial pairings automatically attract a certain type of fan-base…the kind that kept Daniel Goddard employed at YR for over a decade.

The way the Sprina stans operate reminds me of LiaSon stans lol. They had Esme trending for weeks after her death because they wouldn’t stop complaining about her. The show will either try to placate them by recasting Spencer/bringing on another YT boy to pair with Trina or pay em dust.

  5. Good episode today, lots of parent child relationships at play this is the kind of exploration I like to see on my soaps

I couldn’t believe Dex snitched on Sonny like that 😂 Finola Hughes once again doing A caliber work even with a scene partner not up to par. Curious where things go with both characters seemingly done with protecting Sonny even though Anna didn’t even bother to take the statement

Josslyn and Carly’s scenes were great. Its interesting seeing Carly have to explain her blind loyalty to Jason and Sonny despite their crimes and her kid not just excusing it

Love the current dynamic of Kristina and Sonny. Nice to see him support her with Eva La Rue

Jason having zero connections with his sons is actually kind of sad but its cool to see him bond with Danny in real time. Loved Brook Lynn going after Jagger for questioning Danny

Love the current dynamic of Kristina and Sonny. Nice to see him support her with Eva La Rue

Elizabeth and Aidan’s scenes were pretty good as well.

I also noticed ever since Jason came back, there's been new background music.

Its gotten better but I still miss the old RC Cates scores. The current music sounds like a bunch of pots and pans getting played with and doesn’t work well with the scenes being longer again

  7. Its unfortunate these were the storylines and characters featured for EK and PM’s first episode because I don’t care about any of them 🫤 When we talk about potential cast cuts this is the side of the canvas they should start with

Josslyn and Dex? Snooze, though I did enjoy her and Nina sparring.

Crazy old Heather…I’d rather the character be at Shady Brook and never seen. I liked how Laura somewhat acknowledged her own mental history but other than that move around

Nina’s takeover of the paper is kind of interesting just because of Cynthia Watros making magic out of reading a wikipedia page but it looks like Alexis is already leaving back to law so the most interesting dynamic is on the way out, and If Greggory isn’t next to Tracy he can get off my screen

Curtis’ father struggling with a racist misdiagnosis is good on paper but again, I don’t care for anybody involved

Thursday’s show would have made for a better friday cliffhanger and regime launch

  8. Good episode today

So Jason’s been a mercenary working for Jagger and something is being held over his head to keep him on mission. I’m intrigued by the mystery of it all.

SB did great work once again when Jason told Michael about the first time Bobbie put Michael in his hands. He’s much more committed as an actor this go around which is nice.

No matter how mundane the scene set up Finola Hughes is always on, what a great actress. I liked her and Molly putting their heads together.

Sam, Kristina and Danny scenes were good too

Drew and Willow have a little chemistry, them messing around would shake her and Michael up in an interesting way.

Sonny and Lois scenes were good. If Rena isn’t interested in being front burner utilizing Lois as the level headed talk to works for me. Looks like she’ll be the first to sniff out whatever Ava is up to.

  9. Really great writing during the Sonny and Jagger scenes. I like how Sonny’s history of grooming is being acknowledged in a legitimate way. Gringo Jagger is still a weak point for me but Finola and Maura did great work supporting in those scenes.

Feels like they’ve kind of just thrown Jason back into the canvas but I’m locked in for the ride.

I’m gonna be honest IDGAF about kooky Heather, Laura’s demon brother, or Curtis and his family. I don’t ff because the show is so short nowadays but watching live was a chore, I definitely zoned out during their material. Surely they can find something else for Laura to do and I’d rather see Brook Kerr be the heavy player and Curtis take the back seat.

  10. This Jagger recast doesn’t have enough gravitas to make me easily buy him in the role. They should have gone with a Victor Webster or Tom Welling type hell even an Austin Peck instead of casting somebody who looks the complete opposite to the original actor. It sucks because I think this material is interesting on paper but it wasn’t a smart casting choice.

  11. I really enjoyed Friday’s episode.

Its nice seeing Sam be a mother after all the years she spent wanting a child. Her getting advice from Elizabeth was interesting as well I liked how the dynamics were played and the way they have set Danny up as the teen son of Sam and Jason fits pretty well with how I’d expect their kid to be.

I can’t tell if Ava is potentially playing Sonny and maybe the one behind this “Stone” attacker or if she’s really trying to be there for him but either way I liked their scenes together. Him being so isolated from his family and allies is an interesting spot for him as a character I’m curious to see where they take this.

I liked the beats they played with Molly, TJ and Kristina being their surrogate. I really like Kristina with Blaze 🔥

I didn’t even mind Michael Easton character #5000 and his family scenes with Tracy. Her covering for the dads health issues and being touched spending time with them was nice.

The prison stuff was a joke I do not like this Heather or Laura’s priest brother and whatever set up he has going with the PCPD. I am intrigued to see if YTJagger is on the up and up though

  12. I hate that Griffith has finally figured out how to keep the vets happy enough they aren’t complaining and not write any storylines so offensive viewers go on a mass strike. Even the couple stans don’t have any pitchforks out. We can’t know for sure but it seems like the budget is under control too

He might be keeping the lights on but he’s an awful show runner creative wise. There hasn’t been one satisfying storyline or solid payoff since he returned. It feels like the show is in stasis.

  13. @LondonScribe absolutely agree, fantastic episode. Still incredibly soap while handling various issues of being black in a mixed community in a way that felt very real, I’m impressed.

I haven’t seen colorism tackled on tv the way it was with Gina and Anna, major props to the writing team and the actresses for going there.

Poor George! I had kind of pieced the victim being his birth father together but it was still a good gut punch when it landed.

The moms reveal at the end was so good lol, I just really enjoyed all of this.

Semi-me. When Mal Young left I tuned out, and only tuned in upon the announcement of celebrations / returns, etc. and the allure just... fades.

Same tho I left with Mishael Morgan’s Hillary. I have never been able to stomach a full JG showrunning stint. Pick the show up for a few weeks and lose interest fast because the writing never goes anywhere interesting.

Was he the one who started Adam gaslighting Ashley or was that Hogan? Ashley losing her head is an interesting idea same with Nicki falling off the wagon but you can’t trust JG with good execution.

Getting rid of Hilary Curtis remains one of the most idiotic decisions that Y&R made in the last decade, and that’s saying a whole lot.

Mal Young’s dumbest decision. I still wish for a recton that she’s in a coma somewhere and Phyllis and/or Neil staged her somewhere because she asked them too so Devon would

    move on easier.
