  1. Ugh. I'm so upset. I caught the 2nd episode today through the live stream (which only shows the second ep), but thanks to a live tweeter & heard that Liz/Althea had a bit of a dust up today about Nick and I couldn't wait to get home from work to see the episode. I have been waiting to see this all freaking day. *ugh*

  2. Considering that The Doctors aired immediately after DAYS, I feel it may be safe to assume that any time DAYS was pre-empted for whatever reason, DOC would be pre-empted as well. Consquently, thanks to Jason47's DAYS pre-emption list, we can guess that The Doctors will be pre-empted on the following dates...

Thu . 11/23/67 AFL FOOTBALL: OAKLAND VS. KANSAS CITY

Mon. 1/1/68 SUGAR BOWL: LSU VS. WYOMING
Thu. 3/21/68 NELSON ROCKEFELLER DROPS OUT OF PRESIDENTIAL RACE
Tue. 4/9/68 DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. FUNERAL
    Thu . 6/6/68 ROBERT F. KENNEDY ASSASSINATION
Wed. 8/28/68 DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION: THIRD SESSION
Wed. 10/2/68 WORLD SERIES GAME 1: DETROIT VS. ST. LOUIS
Thu. 10/3/68 WORLD SERIES GAME 2: DETROIT VS. ST. LOUIS
Mon. 10/7/68 WORLD SERIES GAME 4: DETROIT VS. ST. LOUIS
Wed. 10/9/68 WORLD SERIES GAME 6: DETROIT VS. ST. LOUIS
Thu. 10/10/68 WORLD SERIES GAME 7: DETROIT VS. ST. LOUIS
Thu. 11/28/68 AFL FOOTBALL: HOUSTON VS. KANSAS CITY
  3. I love how snarky the characters can be. Althea is almost mocking of Liz while Maggie is so utterly dry and blunt. Matt is gruff and no-nonsense. Nick is just a rough and tumble ass. John is rather arrogant and judgmental, yet rather endearing in his scenes with Polly (who really is a kook!). And that first meeting between Steve & Carolee!!! OMG! Steve is just SO charming and smooth while Carolee is INSTANTLY smitten, endearing, and oh so adorable (I chuckled when she got flustered over Steve and accidentally smacked that other nurse in the face with that folder). The only ones who don't really seem to fit are Bill & Ruth because they seem so detached from the rest of the drama.

  4. I'd guessed that Matt laying into Nick was the start of the second episode since that seemed to be the natural episode break. A poster at DR said he'd been in contact by phone with the CEO of SFM Entertainment (who currently holds the distribution rights to the show) agreed that (in the CEO's own words) there was a "huge" market for the show and that he said the show would definitely be released on DVD in the future. The poster also said the CEO said they would be talking to the people at RetroTV about a way to get the show to more people. SFM seems REALLY committed to The Doctors. Color me shocked and cautiously hopeful. That said, I remember a decade ago when it was announced that the show had been licensed to Hallmark and it's taken this long to actually see the light of day (on a completely different channel).

  5. And almost the very first thing he does when he arrives at Hope Memorial is flirt with Carolee, who at this point is STILL pretty much only a background nurse known solely as "Nurse Simpson". Talk about foreshadowing of things to come!

  6. Pleading my OCD, do you know how the synopsis is split between the episodes? blush.png

More importantly... STEVE ALDRICH! It's the first appearance of David O'Brien!!! Also, I never knew that Steve (and by connection, Jason, etc.) was John Rice's cousin. That's a factoid that I don't think has ever been revealed anywhere.

  7. I'm wondering if it's a rights issue for the affiliate. RetroTV has repeatedly stated that they don't have streaming rights. I've also seen at least one douchemonkey on their facebook page who seems to have made it his mission to rat out every live streaming affiliate he can find. In regards to the user recording episodes, but not uploading them to youtube, I can understand their concerns over the youtube nazis. A workaround, however, might be to upload them, set them to "private" (so that they don't pop up in any general youtube search or for just any user) and then provide viewing links to just the people they screen. In any event, I'll take anything I can get. These episodes were thought lost for decades and haven't seen the light of day for over 45 years. I'm tickled just to see/hear/read ANYTHING.

  8. Please keep posting those episode recaps your source is providing! If I can't see the episodes first hand, I'd love to read the daily recaps. Also, thanks to a screencap tweeted to me by the RetroTV twitter, the first episode aired was #1305 with an original broadcast date of December 4, 1967. Interestingly, this episode was taped on November 10, 1967, which seems to me to be a a relatively long lead time between tape & air (the script I have in my collection from February 1968 gives the lead as only a few days!). The RetroTV twitter said they *thought* this was the very first color episode, so that might explain the month-long production lead.

In any event, the episodes aired thus far are...

    12:00pm (9/29/14) - #1305 (Original Air: December 4, 1967)

    12:30pm (9/29/14) - #1306 (Original Air: December 5, 1967)

    12:00pm (9/30/14) - #1307 (Original Air: December 6, 1967)

    12:30pm (9/30/14) - #1308 (Original Air: December 7, 1967)

And don't think my OCD behind isn't copying those recaps, cast list, and episode numbers/dates to keep. lol

  9. I loved how clipped, distinguished, & patrician Elizabeth Hubbard's Althea sounds during those Maggie/Althea scenes in contrast to the casual brashness of Gerald Gordon's Nick with Matt. I'm eager to see them together. Nick/Althea were a HUGELY popular couple on the show. Also, major credit has to be given to HW Rita Lakin. Her tenure on The Doctors is regarded as one of the best, most intelligent periods on a daytime soap opera and I thought her script here was absolutely on point. There were character moments & story movement & recap, but not a single thing felt forced, imo. Today's episode didn't play like soap opera for me as much as it played like a legitimate (not that soap isn't, but you get my meaning) dramatic series.

  10. To say that the entire Bambi Brewster story seems laborious has to be an understatement. When I typed up all of the Jon Michael Reed recaps for LoL for my Tumblr, I never thought that story would end. It simply drags on and on through weekly recap after weekly recap. And there seemed to be a HUGE revolving door of "B" level characters during this time period, too. No wonder the ratings dropped back down to cancellation levels after having risen considerably, from what I understand, in the mid-70s.

  11. I'd also venture to include Bill & Tess from Love of Life on that list. Granted, their story only lasted a few years before they killed Bill off in a ratings stunt (and then promoted the hell of it with ads telling viewers to watch & cry their eyes out over Tess weeping over him), but Gene Bua & Toni Bull marrying in real life while on the show (and staying married until Gene's death just a couple of years ago) make them contenders, imo, for pre-80s supercouple status.

  12. It's definitely possible they made it to 1986 as I wasn't keeping up with it at the end. I just remember they made it pretty far into 1985, at least. There was a message board that was pretty devout about tracking what had aired and keeping important details recorded. I'm pretty sure its still around but I cannot recall the name.

  13. Bill Bell liked to reuse stories. A good example is a key child of a central family finding out their paternity isn't what they thought it was. In addition to Lorie Brooks, he did the exact same story with Ashley Abbott and then, later, with Ridge Forrester on B&B.

  14. I did a quick scan of this thread and I didn't see this posted, but when I stumbled upon this on youtube just now I knew I had to share it -- scenes from 1974, complete with the opening/theme IN COLOR. They're posted on a youtube channel dedicated to actor Joel Marston who played Owen Stratton on GH in 1974. As to who this character was, I have no clue. lol In any event, color GH from this time period is ultra rare and, noticing the relatively low view count on youtube, I thought it needed to be seen.
