From my understanding, a story consultant can pitch ideas from time to time, but mostly they are there to assist the head and associate writers as they lay out story every week, debating whether a particular story "beat" is effective and, as in the case of Harding Lemay and every soap he has consulted on, whether characters' motivations are logical and apparent. Ken Corday used to employ story consultants on DAYS often during the 1990's.

Ironically, Chris Robinson's biggest role in daytime WAS as a recast.

I'd imagine there would be some drama surrounding the reveal of Miranda's paternity. Miranda would bolt either for L.A. or NYC. There could be some shady music producer who'd seduce her and exploit her talents as a singer and songwriter. That would bring us to his murder and her trial. Of course, no way would she have done it. But the ordeal would have brought her and A.J. together. They'd fall in love, get married, drop out of school, earn their G.E.D.'s, refuse any and all help from their respective families. But, in time, the pressures would have been insurmountable. Miranda would learn she's pregnant right around the time A.J. admits he cheated on her. They'd split up, A.J. (with his new bride) would have returned to the Chandler family AND started work at Chandler Enterprises...while Miranda would be looking ahead to single motherhood (with help from Bianca, Bianca's new girlfriend (Jane) and even a returning Erica) and launching the Fusion music label.

I DEFINITELY agree about Tom, danfling. He had his personal demons -- alcoholism, his daughter's death, the failure of his marriages -- but he was also the kind of upstanding tent pole character that soaps just don't have anymore.

I still lament the fact that Chuck and Donna, along with so many other long-standing characters, were not around for AMC's last years. Bad writing or no, having the "old guard" onscreen, even on a recurring and irregular basis, would have been a comfort to me and a way to get through some very horrid stories.

Well, it isn't everyday you see "Charles Pratt, Jr." and "underrated" in the same sentence.

Jonelle Allen was so good as Doreen. It's shameful no other soap has snapped her up to play a similar role.

"What the -- ? Doug Marland was so not the first gay man to work at ATWT! "Oh, wait, they meant.... Nevermind." But seriously, I felt this was a good article exploring the background of Hank's story and how it had evolved from its original intentions. It's interesting to note how far daytime has come from those days...even if most of us agree they still have some ways to go. Thanks, Carl!

Had Sharon Gabet been given a better (or at least better defined) character to play, I suspect she would have been a HUGE asset to AW. I also agree that killing off Sally was a mistake in the long run. MBK might have been popular with fans, but as the casting for ATWT's Margo (and other roles) proved, viewers can warm up to a recast or replacement if he/she is strong enough.
