  1. Been re-watching the 1990 episodes…

I underestimated Heather Rattray.  Originally I think I dismissed her because she wasn’t Martha Byrne and she is just so pretty…but I find her really appealing and I'm enjoying the new directions she takes Lily in.  She definitely holds her own against the ATWT heavyweights and brings new dimensions to the spoiled little rich girl…more assured and less the victim as Martha Byrne portrayed her.  She was a much-needed reset for the character.

I KNOW! i understand a little italian, and is a torture because it is  amazing, the Paula Story Alone would be a super binge watching material

Paula Denning's reign of terror was Capitol's most brilliant storyline...and Julie Adams was simply sublime as Paula.   Capitol's greatest strength was deftly using its veteran actors in front burner storyline.

    John Gabriel Tribute

Lovely tribute to John Gabriel (RIP).  Glad Alan included his daughters to provide insight into John the family man.  No surprise: John was a total mensch — Louise Schaffer’s stories shed light on his generosity.

Ilene made me laugh when commenting that she and John were just two of many Jews cast on the Irish Catholic Ryan’s Hope…

  4. Great stuff in Pt 2.  Recollections of Rick Springfield, Demi Moore and John Stamos from their GH days.

I don’t understand why Maurice always asks guests about drug use in the 80s...Tristan Rogers refused to discuss it and Kin looks nonplussed with the question, but he does let a few tales loose.

Overall, excellent tidbits for 80-era GH fans…

I liked the Dakota storyline, but I also did not see why it was introduced with Jillian's amnesia storyline.   I have always supposed that the show wanted to give to Nancy Addison Altman a new big storyline.   I also agree with the post above that the introduction of Dakota was brought too late for the good of the show.

Chris Durham was well cast as Dakota...he was a great foil for the saintly Ryans.  Chris sparked more w/ Ilene and Cali than w. Nancy likely because of the ill-conceived amnesia storyline.

I would predict that if RH had continued they would have recast Johnno, and much like Frank, eventually found someone more charismatic, with more audience appeal, for the part.

Agreed, Johnno was a weak link in the later years…but I don’t think Jason Adams was the issue.  He was charismatic enough and had great chemistry with and was perfectly cast as the child of Ilene Kristen and John Sanderford.  The right romantic pairing could have salvaged the character and set Johnno up to be as popular as Ryan.

Before Ryan, Maggie Shelby was the most exciting new character to pump energy into the show.  The camera loved Cali Timmons and she was perfectly cast as the foil to the Ryans and Coleridges.  I wish Cali had acted more after RH.  If Yasmine, Grant Show, Wlcek, etc. found success in primetime, surely Cali could have too.

I think Labine probably enjoyed writing for the adult versions of the children of the characters who were front and center in the show's early years.  She probably would have never aged them so drastically herself, but once it was done she seemed to have fun with it and got to incorporate some of the characteristics/hangups she presumably always assumed they'd have because of who their parents were.

Not enough credit is given to the Ryan Finelli years...likely because these episodes never got a rewatch the way the early years did on SoapNet.  The show desperately needed a re-fresh and the new generation of Ryans did just that, while keeping many of the originals front and center in supporting roles.

Yasmine Bleeth was an engaging enough performer and with Ryan's trials, Jack, Maeve and Johnny were allowed plenty of airtime.  Ryan's pairing with Rick Hyde was exactly the young love fix that ABC Daytime mandated for all its shows in the late 80s.  There were certainly days and weeks when Ryan and Rick's romance was more compelling than many of ABC Daytime's other more highly rated couples.

Friday, April 2, 1982 - At Kelly's, Scotty reads all about Luke's grand opening. Ruby tells Rose that she's going to be serving drinks. Scotty is disgusted when he finds out Heather is going with Joe. Luke and Robert prepare for the grand opening. Laura in the control room with Mel reads about the opening. David asks Laura if she has any urge to see her sister. Robert and Tiff rehearse their mind reading act. Alan wants to go to the opening, but Monica doesn't. Alan takes Lila. Rick, Lesley and Amy preparing for the opening. Rick tries to comfort Lesley who thinks Laura would still be alive if it were not for the STAR. Steve and Audrey, Joe, Heather, Ramsey and Katz arrive for the opening. Heather is upset to see Katz. David notices that Laura wants to see her sister. David hypnotizes her and erases her memory of him, and the project. Luke welcomes everyone. Tiff and Robert's act is a huge success. Scotty tries to get Heather to sit with him, but she turns him down. Magda the Gypsy and Slick's magician friend don't show up, so Luke has to wing it with in impromptu psychic act. Turns out Luke is quite skilled at reading objects blindfolded. Luke successfully identifies a ring from Edward and blurts out that the ring is to be handed down to "Eric". Edward panics and grabs the ring from Luke. Next, Luke identifies the inscription of a watch. "With Love Laura". Luke removes the blindfold and finds out that Scotty handed him the watch. Enraged, Luke heads over to deck Scotty when suddenly the lights go out and when they come back on everyone is stunned to see Laura Templeton standing in the doorway!

Anyone have a link to this episode?  would love to see it again

  9. I know some fans resent that Rae-Kim-Michael shifted focus from the Ryans...but I'd argue it was a jolt of freshness that RH desperately needed.  By the early 80s, the Ryans had grown stale, we all needed a breather from their sanctimoniousness and the revolving door of actors playing the Ryan brood was inconsistent.

  10. Miss Wyman discusses the origins of her hairstyle in this interview.   The entire interview is a delight -- 5 short clips, at her home -- totally worth a watch.  Love that she matched her outfit to her flowers.  What a lady !

Great reunion !  What a rare career Kate has had -- having a career in daytime on just one show and for so many years.  While I admire that she gave up stardom for her husband and family, you have to wonder what if...films, broadway, series.  She was just so unique...

Enjoyed hearing Tom's memories as a child actor on AMC -- especially his stories about Kelly Ripa and Chris Bruno.

  12. Is this where Genie met her husband Jonathan Frakes ?   At least something lasted from BE...

The gorgeous Al Corely started on the show but if I remember correctly his character was killed off pretty quickly.

Wish it was still available to be seen...
