  1. These household ratings are just horrific! I see that they all experienced a small jump in viewers, but overall, it's still bad. I miss the days when all the soaps had good ratings. Even when they may have been "low", the ratings were still good! It's a combination of things. It all boils down to the writing! I so hope that The Gates brings in a jump for all but also reinvigorates the genre. It's still a wanted genre! I hope that with this, ushers in a return and that both NBC and ABC decide to bring back soaps to their network! And it would help that these networks did real promos! Even NBC should still air promos for DAYS for Peacock!
  2. It's funny that you said this because I was just talking about this. Soaps period use to have families and characters represented from different social classes. All of the soaps that are on have deviated away from that for a very long time now. This is part of the problem on each soap. What made the soaps interesting was the fact that you had many characters who represented you as it pertains to social class. You had your wealthy/rich, your middle class, working class, and the poor/struggling family or characters. You saw the come-up of characters with romance, love, finances, and so forth and it was all told in great story that you, the audience, were connected and part of the journey. This is what is missing from all soaps. I stand by my thoughts that soaps can return to the way they were and the glory of it. But soap writers old and new are going to have to be willing to take the bullet and go for it. Really studying writing and storylines back then and how they crafted characters and storylines as well. I need the writers to do their homework for real and really watch, read, analyze, and dissect how writers then used to work and how they kept the audience engaged. It can happen again, but they must be willing to do and put in the work. I also feel that networks need to recommit to their soaps no matter what platform they are in. That's also the hard part for those networks. Stop interfering, stop slashing the budget, and get back out there and garner partnerships and sponsorships like they used to. I just feel like that there is a way to return the soaps that are on to its glory! I also can't wait for The Gates and hope they restore our love in soaps like when they were really good!
  3. I want the Brooks and Fosters back! The next generation of them would be refreshing. And the writers looking back at how masterful Bill Bell was when writing those characters back then. The way he wrote them and integrated them amongst other characters, families, and storylines. I like YR but right now, they are just not as entertaining. And the thing is there are characters and elements there that could definitely give it that fire. But I would love to see both of these families (Brooks and Fosters) revived! I loved AW! How I wish that they would have revived the Matthews family when it was on. It needed to happen. The Matthews family was a very integral part to the show and they had so much history. Writers should have been weaving them back into the fabric of the show. Josie as a Matthews should have been more prevalent.
  4. I'm definitely going to have to watch this interview! These were writers at their best. This is what soaps lack now, writing with heart, writing that makes sense, and writers that know how to build stories that have long lasting affects, feels, emotions, incorporates old and new characters, and builds new history while building on the old. They knew how to create and develop characters as well as enhance the characters already on the show. So I am excited to listen to this later on. I feel this way about writers like Sheri Anderson (Days of Our Lives) and Donna Swajeski (Another World, 1988-1992). There are many other writers who I feel got it right and understood without a doubt how to write great, entertaining soap opera. I hope he does some more interviews with other past writers who really understood the craft and genre!
  5. Both shows sound AWFUL! I love all of my soaps that are on, but they are just not doing them justice or right anymore. These sweeps/spoilers are terrible. Nothing about any of them sound interesting and actually boring and somewhat repetitive. They all lack romance, great pairings, family, adventure, and scandal.
