  1. I am the last person to like anything involving zombies, but damn if this show isn't fantastic. Yeah I got verklempt at the Rick/Laurie/Carl reunion

Same here, that was a really good scene. I can't believe I'm watching a show about zombies and liking it. Sure, I like Sci-fi, but zombies have never been my thing. Still, this is a pretty good show compared to almost anything on the networks. I'm thrilled it's been renewed for 13 episodes, since this first season only has 6.

  2. I agree with you on both, although Kim seemed to be quite popular in her initial run, enough to grace the cover of People anyway (with Andrea Evans and Genie Francis).

Jack's a fascinating character. I know he can be loud and annoying and self-righteous, yes, but he has a big heart, and the show doesn't let us forget that, especially in his relationship with Maeve. I'm glad that ABC did not feel the need to put him out to pasture once they started trying to make the show over in the 80s.

Really? I find that shocking, although she was very pretty. Maybe people could relate to her on some level as an abandoned, hurt little girl. It just never worked for me, although I find her more sympathetic this time around than last. I can only assume it's because I'm older and in the mother role myself these days. I wonder why they wrote her off. I remember being surprised when she left with Arley and never came back, given how much airtime she got. Plus it seemed like they were going to hook her up with one of "Faith's kids", but nothing ever came of that and he just disappeared.

I think Jack was really a victory for Claire Labine. His transformation was so well crafted and believable. I LOVE his relationship with Mauve and the way she never gives up on him for Mary's sake. Plus the early stuff with Jack's love for Ryan and the way Mauve tricked him into admitting it was some really good, simple soap. Those were the days. Now we can barely get relationships between adult children and their parents on soaps, never mind such a rich MIL/SIL story.

  3. Similarly, Kelli Maroney deftly exudes that intricate melange of child-like vulnerability and grown-up self-interest that makes Kim both a complicated and compelling character.

Umm no. She's an annoying little twit. I do think the character's on Ryan's Hope put today's poorly constructed characters to absolute shame, but Kim was always too annoying to me. That voice! The whining, screaming and wailing is just too much for me.

The brings me to Jack, who I think might be the most well written character to even grace a soap. There are times when I've wanted to wring his neck, but his development is so touching. Even when I don't much like him, I have to root for him.

  4. Normally, Kim grates on me, but the scenes where she keeps referring to her baby as "Senachael" are hilarious. laugh.gif It probably helps that I can't stand Seneca (SP?) and think Kim is giving him everything he deserves right now. What 50 something marries an 18 year old and doesn't expect to play daddy? Surely not one who passed his psych rotation in med school.

  5. I'm excited about it, HBO has a pretty good track record. I think people who see the show before they read the books will probably be happier with it than those who read the books first. But even if the show doesn't quite live up to the books (and I'm not sure it could without a Rome like budget) We'll, see.

  6. Unlike many fantasy novels, the "Thrones" series largely avoids relying on magical elements and instead goes for brutal realism -- think "Sopranos" with swords. Martin, a former TV writer ("Beauty and the Beast"), writes each chapter as a cliffhanger, which should lend itself well to series translation. David Benioff and Dan Weiss are the series creators.

Clearly written by someone who hasn't read the books. There's tons of magic in them.

  7. How about this past weeks ep?

Loved the ending with the killer killing his Father in prison.

I just got caught up on most the first few seasons on A&E but never seen Gideon's final ep. What happened to him?

He just left. I don't know if you saw the epi where his girl friend was killed, but after that he had a hard time. He left a note for Spencer up at the cabin telling him that he just couldn't continue with the job. We don't know where he went or what he's doing.

  8. I myself love the show and think they deserve the praise. :)

Me too. Despite my disdain for procedurals I've watched many and I think NCIS is really a cut above. Criminal Minds isn't half bad either (Matthew Grey Gubler is all kinds of hot), but NCIS has managed to create characters that are easy to care about. Now if only I could get just a little tiny taste of Ziva I'd really be happy. I don't need them to be a real couple. I just need a little more push pull kind of like Scarecrow and Mrs. King before they ruined the show by getting the characters together.

  9. Becoming #1 on your 7th Season is really quite impressive.... although I don't quite get what this show did to get 21 million viewers, but hey!

I've heard it's the rerun marathons on USA. People see the show and then fall for the characters, which is something I can definitely relate to. I hate procedurals almost as much as medical and lawyer shows, but NCIS is something special. The cast has a ton of chemistry with each other. I don't think they've captured the magic with the spin off, but I guess we'll see.

  10. RH was the last ABC soap I watched growing up since my mom wasn't a regular viewer so I hadn't originally seen the first 5 years until I got Soapnet. I loved how intimately this show delved into the family dynamics. I think Soapnet only has the rights for the first few years and then they rebroadcast it again from the beginning, but I would love to see the story that originally hooked me on RH: Charlotte Greer claiming she was Frank's first wife. Charlotte was played by Judith Chapman and I don't remember the full details, but she was somehow connected to Maeve and was out for revenge.

It's the music rights that are an issue. In the early 80's they started using pop songs a lot more and the rights to rebroadcast that music is prohibitively expensive. I keep hoping that issue will be worked out one of these days so we can see the last 8 years or so.

I think Ryan's hope is very slow paced and that's why a lot of people find it boring. I always think of RH when people start saying they want more family scenes. RH was had such a strong family core, at least in the beginning. It's truly a character driven show. I wish there were room for another soap like it today, but I just don't see it. People expect a faster pace and more outrageous drama than shows like RH have. I find it so endearing because on RH a divorce was such a huge , scandalous thing and people actually believe you should be married forever. Now most main characters have been married 7 or 8 times, so things like affairs and divorce really don't create all that much drama.
