Yea, I was shocked that Genie wasn't even nominated. Genie should have WON! But that was also the year Susan Lucci finally won her Emmy. A great moment in soap history.

I can appreciate your viewpoint. I do think the storyline got "Guzafied" to some extent and became about "Poor, poor Luke" as well. Ugh. But another added benefit to this storyline was the tender love story of Lucky & Elizabeth. So sweet! Loved them.

Well I think one of the reasons it became mostly about Lucky and Luke was because Genie Francis was not there. She was still on her extended maternity leave. And if I remember correctly, the storyline was mostly about revisiting the Luke/Laura rape which had become white-washed under Gloria Monty. I do think they tried to unwhite-wash it a bit and I think it worked. And while I do think Becky Herbst was good in the storyline, I don't think she had the acting chops to carry that heavy, heavy storyline. When they did the flashbacks of Laura being raped, it was astounding to see what a terrific young actress Genie Francis was. And then when you contrasted that to Becky Herbst......it just didn't hold as much weight. Again, Becky was fine...just not superb IMO.

Elizabeth's rape was such a good story. I love how it also became about Luke raping Laura. Such good writing and acting.

Yea, this is so great. Steve Hardy and little Robin Scorpio. Doesn't get much better than this.

I just have to chime in and say I love this thread. Different ways to kill off Sonny, and Jason ! Love it!

I actually enjoyed a lot of those stories. I loved Stefan and Laura and I'm someone who loved Luke & Laura. That said, when Lucky "died" in the fire, I really thought Luke and Laura should have reunited. It was the perfect opportunity. But they just trashed the couple instead. I'm sure Geary had a big part in that. 🙄

Yea, even when Gloria Monty didn't have great writing, her show, for me, was not to be missed. I literally was glued to the show for 10 years. And she had that eye for chemistry that extended beyond Luke & Laura: she also gave us Robert & Holly, Frisco & Felicia and Duke & Anna. And after Laura's rape, there was never another rape on GH under her tenure. I give her credit for that.

I detest the character of Carly. That said, Sarah Brown was the best. Best actress too. Loved to hate the early Carly. Now I just hate Carly.

I really liked the Stefan/Laura relationship. They had some smokin' hot chemistry. And I say that as a huge L&L fan.

I know there are some die-hard Robert & Anna fans. And if you started watching GH in 1990 or 1991, I can see why you would be an R&A fan. But I started watching GH in 1977 and I saw the real-life magic of both Robert & Holly and Duke & Anna play out. They were the supercouples. GH was the #1 soap when both those couples were the top GH couple. Created by Gloria Monty, both couples had that magnetic magic. For sure, Tristan and Finola have chemistry, but I like them so much more as bickering exes. Plus, I think the "Robin" thing helped cement them as a couple. But IMO, they never were a supercouple. There wasn't that much of a story. They were two individual extremely popular characters that had chemistry. They just didn't have that romantic chemistry that R&H and D&A had in spades.

Holly is the first person who (consistently) calls him Robert. I don't think the actress who played Prunella (who was from Australia) liked Tristan. I think she thought he was rude and brash.

So, I was a huge Patch and Kayla fan and I couldn't stand Stefan and Katherine together. Ugh. So forced. I didn't see any chemistry between them. But Stefan and Laura were smokin'!!! I just loved them. And I was a huge Luke & Laura fan. So weird how that works.
