  1. Dante telling Sonny there need to be changes was excellent. Dante absolutely should be a lead on the show.

Did I miss a doctor examination that said Kristina was high risk? Because the tired old trope of not upsetting a pregnant woman is ridiculous.

Dex also had a realistic reaction to being asked to protect Sonny by Michael. The show is full of people I could do without. But Mulcahey has at least made sure they have decent characterizations instead of just regurgitating the plots all episode long.

That wallpaper is hideous. Monica would never. Olivia maybe.

That might be it. When they audition they need to see if the person they are in scenes with get horny. My pitbull knows when people are horny so maybe they could use him when they cast? Like a drug sniffing dog?

FYI, I'm not sure if I'm joking or not.

We were just spoiled. Look at GL in the early 90’s. You had a stacked cast full of fantastic actors. And we also got to see Dylan with his shirt off. It was a win/win. Sometimes, with a Rick Hearst or Peter Reckell on DAYS or Kristoff on Y&R, you get one that can do both- highly charged emotional scenes and hotness.

Every soap knew this and fed their audience appropriately. For every Terry Lester’s Jack or Robert Woods as Bo we also had a Brad Carleton and a Cord Roberts.

Like most of the “illness of the year” stories GH has done over the past decade - who cares? Gregory’s relationships on the show weren’t that strong and were limited to a few people. A waste of a talented actor in a very poorly devised and unnecessary role.

I could not agree more. It started with the one I have blacked out that was dating Joss. Then Mike. Now Gregory. None of them elicited any emotion in me, and I am the easiest cry on the planet.

They probably should have recast Jackie for this. Or have they ever tried getting Demi Moore back? Or does the budget not allow for either?

Stamos said it was going to be revealed during the 50th that Blackie and Jackie were together, they were going to walk the red carpet together, I believe for the nurses ball,  and he refused. I think he was also going to be in Rick Springfield’s band.

He wanted Blackie to have a more meaningful return with people he had scenes with, Kin, Tony, Jack Wagner, Denise Alexander if she was there, etc. After he refused I’m not sure what happened with Demi.

The show might be a mess, but PM worked some magic with both Drew and Nina. I haven’t cared for Cam’s Drew, or either Nina. Now I am actively looking forward to Nina scenes.

  5. My problem is I don’t care. I am not invested in Finn, his family stories, or his kid. Michael Easton isn’t the problem, it’s not his fault Frank keeps hiring him. Three characters in 10 years is just too many. Same with Roger. Their boss should not have put them or the audience through that nonsense.

I have said it many times around here- those characters might have worked if they had tried to hire other actors. Maybe Finn and Anna or Liz could have been rootable if he was played by another actor. Instead we have wasted Liz trying to make two characters work over the course of a decade. They tried to tie him to a name from the past with Jackie and threw Rebecca Budig at him. That is a lot that should not have been needed.

I like the actor but it was time for some people to hit the road, and Gregory might as well get the party started.

I've said this before in other threads, but the problem with doing stories about incurable diseases such as Alzheimer's or ALS is that they offer no hope to viewers in a medium that, at its' core, is supposed to offer hope.  (Like the song says, "there's always tomorrow.")

I understand your point, but I think any good drama should include death, even in a slow and realistic form like ALS. The tomorrow for me is how the other characters rebuild their lives, including if appropriate new loves down the road.

Sometimes they play it too close to reality though. I thought Labine told Stone’s story with so much community and heart that it didn’t feel bleak. Had they told the proposed Audrey story, I might not have felt the same way.

When they fake killed Lucky, the first month of Luke and especially Laura grieving was almost too realistic. I think there is a happy medium to showing that kind of grief, and they went so dark it was hard to watch.

They were, yes. Unfortunately, the response to those (ratings drops and the ushering in of Guza and his sicknesses) does make me wonder again if soap viewers just didn't want to see the real life illness plots.

The ratings didn’t really crater until the last few months of the Stone story. And truthfully, it was the only story they were telling at that point. They had just broken up Brenda and Sonny (the wire), Miguel was not popular, Luke and Laura were still fighting because of the shootout in their house, etc. Labine stayed to finish that story, and although better balance would probably have helped the ratings, I wouldn’t want to change anything about that period.

I am sure being close to the character’s ages helped cement how special that story was for me as a viewer. I also had watched for years and kind of grew up with Robin. Nothing any soap has done since was as big a risk as Robin being HIV+. The medications were not really there yet like they would be in just a couple more years, let alone today.

Brook Lynn should be the new Tracy. A cop's wife? She should be married to a politician, or a heir, having affairs and lots of drama. I would kill off Chase, or try to wake him up by having an affair with a girl-next-door type.

Imagine the fun the show could have had if Dillon was gay or bi and was like Tracy? That feels way more modern already for an old soap staple.

And then she hated RKK. At times I have wondered what that was about. Does she hate almost anyone?

So did Rinna. And Alison Sweeney’s parent pulled her off the show until he was gone.  Having a relationship with an underage costar will do that. He also didn’t get along with people at AW, so how is this on her?

  10. Also- Part of it was Steve decided he was a serious actor so no more shirtless scenes, even though he clearly had the body for them. But we had others to take up the slack- GV’s Lucky, for one. Plus Maurice had zero problem with a sex scene.

Can you imagine a soap hunk in the 1980’s refusing to play love scenes? Hell Kristian Alfonso and Peter Reckell hated each other at times during their original run. The show kept them together anyway!

  11. Hands touching can be incredibly sexy when the talent knows how to play it. These two decided their boundary wasn’t just bedroom scenes, but a feeling of sexiness at all. They don’t even exchange longing looks, they feel sexless. And that has nothing to do with wanting her to film bedroom or unclothed scenes.

And for me, that means they shouldn’t be sold as a huge romance.

Balance the show out a bit- if there was something hot going on it doesn’t put all the pressure on them. Spencer and Trina helped, because you had two performers that did get the subtext and played it- passion. And again, I’m not just talking about in bed- that leap into Spencer’s arms was hotter than anything BLQ and Chase have ever accomplished. And I like the performers!

The Lucky "death" makes sense as well. I mostly remember her being put into that dull, dull pairing with Stefan that you could tell no one at the show gave a damn about.

There was heat before but when Katherine took that first tumble off the parapet their kind of illicit energy died too. By the time he was pushing Laura out of the way of trains it was just clearly a story about how long do we have to wait for Luke and Laura to reunite?

Kristina being this shocked is silly. She knows who this guy is. They cold have gotten the same result by going another way to get there. I really like Mansi on the show though.

“Why don’t you try to be as smart as you think you are!”
This is probably my favorite thing I’ve ever heard someone say to Carly. I do hope we continue getting writing like this even without PM.

I loved that scene, and Anna being the one dropping that bomb on her was perfect!

  13. 2 hours ago, DRW50 said:

She's been around, helped by Spencer's presence, but I do think the core of the character has not been there in a very long time - probably since that fateful maternity leave (not that I am blaming a maternity leave, more how the whole thing ended up playing out backstage, allegedly).

For me it was the year after Lucky died. She has even said they just flat out gave up writing for her after she wallowed in misery for months, which was realistic for Laura at that point but like everything Guza did, he didn’t have a way back from the edge. They wanted to keep stretching out Luke and Laura reuniting, so they did the Felicia story and Luke looking for Lucky without telling her.

I know others don’t agree, but I felt the show was not very good all around in 1999 through the end of Wendy’s tenure. I thought there were several forgettable and miscast characters- JY’s Lucky, Nikolas, Jerry, Roy, Chloe, Juan and Hannah being many examples. Bobbie was sidelined twice by terrible pairings, Felicia was almost destroyed, and when Sonny came back he ate the show up in a way he hadn’t before. Then they paired him with Carly.

  14. Truthfully, the OG female vet that has stayed consistently in story is Anna. She has had a new relationship or a story about her or her past consistently. Genie has been in and out of that since her return. I think her family being mostly gone hinders what she does best, which is emotional material. But truthfully, she was pretty centered until Spencer died and Nikolas was written out.

  15. I just read some wild threads on Twitter, and is this what fans really think? That Laura Wright has both the unlimited power and uses it to sideline every fan favorite except herself? Maybe I am naive, but she does not come across this way to me at all.

She seems like a hardworking actress that doesn’t take sh!t from online fans and goes to work and does her job, no matter the script or the costar. And let me be clear- I am not a LW stan. I appreciate her work, but if Sarah wanted back on as Carly I would gladly say welcome back lady!

The fans are truly wilding out, the show and network would be wise to make some statements sooner rather than later.

The best work I think I maybe ever have seen Jackie do though, I could only find once in a clip shown during one of the televised soap awards ceremonies, I think from the '90s - it was part of a larger full broadcast posted on YT. It was a clip from '78 or '79 when Scott finally rejects Bobbie in full and she completely loses her mind on him. She was absolutely white hot. I'll have to find it again someday.

If it’s what I am thinking of, It’s from that special celebrating soaps that covered all three networks in the early 90’s. Tony Geary and IIRC Melody Thomas Scott introduce a clip package and Jackie. She is so fantastic in that clip, I think it ends with her saying that Scotty and the Webbers make her sick! She talks about Elm street and why she has to fight for what she wants.

    Starts around 1:25

  17. I have been watching a bunch of sequential 1978 episodes recently after seeing a clip online of early Bobbie on a tribute to Jackie. It is so much fun to watch Bobbie be awful to Laura. I get why the audience hated Bobbie but loved Jackie right away. She’s so good at switching from bubbly to vicious!

Monty’s plan to use Laura to get younger viewers would have worked on me when I was a teenager, I would have eaten this up.

Young Scotty is so hot, and nothing like the Scotty I met later on. He and Bobbie kind of traded places- she became the upstanding and well respected member of the community, and Scotty the scheming, devious but still charming jackass.

I also enjoy how much Genie brings to the table- she gets to be a basket case and also give it to Bobbie right back. She’s so young and she already has many layers while playing Laura. If the younger Emmy  category had existed back then she would have had a shelf full of them.

The only bad thing in these episodes was the introduction of Ann Logan, the worst character ever, and I was watching when Sonny fell for Angel, so that is saying a lot.

It’s interesting to watch the show when every single thing is working (except Ann but she’s only been on once so far), and now when it’s such a hot mess.

  18. Laura has been involved with several murders/killings, some of them she did herself. She married her rapist, had a severe cognitive breakdown, and has been in close ties with the mob several times. If Port Charles can ignore all that and be happy to elect her mayor, Drew’s prison stint is nothing.

Drew and Nina were both given purpose and a spark of life and it feels like PM to me as well, more than Korte.

  19. The sucker punch was one thing. The total domination was ridiculous.

When you poke around online, mostly on Twitter, the amount of Sonny fans appalled at this writing makes me scratch my head. Did they watch the show before the last 10 years? This isn’t that far off from how Guza wrote him. Volatile, unlikeable, quick to violence. This is very much Sonny to me, just older.

  20.  Nina selling the hotel was one of the big changes that I felt was handled really well. She took it over on an impulse and to annoy Carly. Without Sonny, annoying Carly isn’t as much fun for her. And they established in a handful of scenes how badly she was doing running it, and how little fun it was bringing her. I also feel Nina I has been great under the new writers. Watros is really energized by the material, and it shows.

Sonny being so protective of Gio would make more sense if he had been introduced even a few days earlier. Instead we meet him, he talks to Dex, and Sonny goes apeshit.

I first saw the show in reruns on TBS I think? So as bad as the last couple of seasons could be compared to the others, I fell in love with the show near the end. I have a lot of fondness for characters like Paige, Anne, Nick and Claudia. I met Abby in the final episodes, and she quickly became a favorite. Then it all started over again and I got to see it from the beginning. There is not period of the show that is unwatchable to me. Sure, some are better than others. From the back half of season 3 through season 7 is a real golden period for me, starting with Gary cheating on Val with Abby.

I cannot wait for this to hit streaming!

Yes, I remember some truth bombs dropped at Carly, but mostly what I remember about GW's stint was the intro of Kate 2.0 and Robin having major HIV/AIDS complications to the point it seemed like they might possibly kill her off.

Well KMc was making no bones about her desire to leave at the end of her contract. She wasn’t happy about Robin’s AIDS medication being tampered with as a plot point during the Lisa Niles story, and was in general just ready for her next chapter to become a director.

We had our chance but JFP and Frons didn’t want Sri Rao on the main show. She preferred someone she could control, much like Frank. It got her fired though.
