  1. Yes, and not just of a certain age or even race lol I feel like I’ve heard people of various races use that phrase my whole life. It’s a throwback to another era, but I still hear it.
  2. Why is it still just showing the five preview specials on my P+? Today’s Y&R and B&B are up, and BTG switched from “Watch Trailer” to “Watch Now,” but still just the previews. Re: using real music. ATWT was using real music semi-regularly up to the end, I believe. Is there a connection (other than P&G)?
  3. @Cheap21, this show has so many interesting female characters. I feel as though this Friday might merit a return of an old tradition…👀👀 only if the spirit moves you, though. A modern riff on Love of Life’s Van/Meg
  4. I don’t know who Karen Huger is, and I’m okay with that bc she looked dumb as hell with all that mugging
  5. That was honestly one of my favorite things about it. They somehow managed to introduce us to these characters while also making it feel like we’ve already been watching for quite a while. I liked that immediate feeling of normalcy (i.e. Anita and Nicole chatting about Dani).
  6. What a FANTASTIC soap debut!!! I am so happy I decided to stay home and experience this with all of you live. So much in my life has changed since the days of live-posting during AMC, but the excitement of sharing opinions and reactions with everyone has not changed one bit!! Who would have ever thought we'd be here sinking our teeth into a brand new soap?
  7. Okay, this final scene between Dani and Haley is great, but are they in front of a green screen? Something looks super artificial about it. OMG, the family walking off and giving Haley the side-eye one by one was the best.
  8. And I'm easy as Sunday morning because I want to add each one to my shopping list. These shows were originally created to sell household cleaning products, and so I will buy household cleaning products.
  9. What a great, old-school soap moment with Vernon beguiling the family with a story from his and Anita's younger days. Jacob is hot as fck.
  10. So glad we got to see the Dupree women together and then Vernon and his grandson together before the whole group joined together for the first scene featuring the whole core four. The two older women pushing past Ashley as she tries to have a "moment" stepping off the elevator was low-key hilarious.
  11. One of the things I'm loving about this debut is that it's not shrouded in some big, contrived mystery. We're meeting characters, learning the juicy bits, and watching dynamics. I wasn't sure how much sense it would to make to open after the revelation of the Bill/Haley affair (wow), but I'm glad it's already out in the open so that we're dealing with it already. Seeing it live and in front of me, I really think they casted slightly too young for Dani and Nicole. It doesn't help that KM and DD both look much younger than they are. I mean, I'm glad we have them both, so in the long run, it's whatever, but I just hope Nicole in particular isn't given the Pat Bruder treatment.
  12. Yes, and he's gorgeous. The scene was kinda stilted, but the older lady approaching Vernon to thank him made me realize that the one thing the show might be missing is the older talk-to lady. Tamara Tunie is playing Anita Dupree as if this show's been running for 30+ years. Stepped right into that role and owning it completely from Day 1.
  13. "Of course, some of that hard work is being undone," from the former Congressman, is diabolical.
  14. Woah, the set for Bill's law office was niiiiice, love that little corridor.
  15. The white couple isn't awful, but yes, they are totally out-of-place when the rest of the episode is Dupree-centered. They have an old-fashioned earnest soap couple feel about them, but who tf are they lol
  16. "Back...up...Haley." Delicious. I wonder if the exposition was a conscious decision because it really has been so long since a new soap came along, and much longer since a new one came to CBS. The audience they're targeting hasn't had to learn a whole new set of characters and stories all at once in nearly 38 years, so hit them over the head with the basics right away so that they're invested. Yes, that's the word that made me bristle. It felt like we'd dissolved into a flashback to Anita's younger years, with Tamara providing narration.
  17. Not for long, thankfully, but he is hot in the naked apron look. Karla Mosley's teeth should get a credit of their own.
  18. The Anita/Nicole scene in Act I was super exposition-heavy, but I love love love that we already had a scene of mother and daughter casually flapping gums while some plucky music plays in the background.
  19. I would hope that anyone posting here would know this already (key word being hope). It’s always been my understanding that, in soap world, the whole first week is considered the “pilot,” and the only fair review comes after Friday. This really is a momentous occasion bc I dusted off my very temperamental tabletop antenna so that I can not only watch this but watch it like it’s supposed to be watched, proper frame rate and all. It’ll be P+ from here on out, but for the premiere? Videotape, baby.
  20. This is a great idea. I'm 30 minutes late for Y&R already, but I'll tune it in. It really is the little things.
  21. Catching up, but re: GL in Peapack. I think one of the most embarrassing things I saw from that whole debacle was the Four Musketeers' high school "reunion" where they stood in a CLEARLY empty gym, gazing blankly in the direction of the camera and referring to "all of these people" that weren't actually there. Maybe there were like 4-5 people that we saw vaguely because they were meant to represent more people. The echoing was deafening. Then there was a scene with maybe Beth and Phillip in a random classroom.
  22. God, I love this. I can't express it enough how much I love the open effort to acknowledge BTG as part of the classic soap framework. Our genre still has some life in her yet! Small wonderings as we get closer to debut - I wonder if the streaming episodes will have actual closing credits vs. white text on a black screen. I don't think much can be done to extend that music, but I still want a nice crawl over a shot of the Dupree mansion or something.
  23. If anything, if the show is successful and lasts a while, I would love to see the BTG world expanded into a spin-off series (daytime or primetime).
  24. I strongly disliked JB’s Martin when I was watching a few years ago, but I did like Alexandrou in the various episodes k watched from his run. Either way, what a huge mistake in killing the character off. How do you celebrate the show’s anniversary by killing off a character whose birth is intrinsically tied to the show’s first year? As already said, Vicki’s family could have still come in without Martin dying. For those with more knowledge of the early 00s, did Mark really need to die? I always thought that seemed unnecessary but the upside was “well, there’s still Martin,” and I figured there was a general consensus that they wouldn’t make the same mistake by killing him off prematurely. Guess I was wrong!
