  1. So Karl Rove fleeced all those donors and his excuse for no return on their investment is that Barack Obama had an advantage as an incumbent because he didn't have to go through primaries. I didn't get to say adios to Reince Priebus. Some Tea Party leader was on CNN telling Soledad O'Brien they don't do social issues yet they backed candidates like Todd Akin who does. They can blame Mitt Romney for losing his own bid but to try and pin Todd Akin and the others on Mitt Romney is silly. He certainly didn't hurt Paul Ryan who was re-elected. Are they going to keep saying it was the ground game that cost them, try to push the least painful of immigration reform bills, and stick Marco Rubio further out front now? In commenting on John McCain, Jonathan Capehart said something to the effect of "he had to tourette's it out," and there was no outrage or apology on his part as far as I know.
  2. I'm sorry for all you've gone through with the hurricane. What Barack Obama did is probably transparent to individuals because it's related to FEMA but it is a huge deal to have red tape cut. I don't get why he would reach out to Mitt Romney other than symbolic healing because Mitt Romney's not the leader of the Republican party. Unless you want Mitt Romney to publicly apologize for his remarks about no one asking him to produce his birth certificate then I'm not sure why you feel Barack Obama ought to apologize. I fail to see what he said that wasn't true. Mitt Romney lied constantly and switched positions so much that he probably had a hard time keeping up with what he last said. On another note, Karl Rove is nuts. His definition of suppressing the vote is ridiculous. Then there's poor Bill O'Reilly who needs to go and place his head on Pat Buchanan's shoulders because "traditional America" is gone. R.I.P.
  3. Californians are crazy but they seem to be going the right way on most of the propositioins. I'm glad I don't live in Darrell Issa's district but I guess he uses his money to keep himself in office. Chris Matthews seems to get worse and worse. First he was complaining that Barack Obama didn't thank Bill Clinton in his speech and he got more negative from there. I guess his show will now be about the Clintons and how to get them back in the White House. Let the salivating over Hilary Clinton begin. Maybe they'll save it for her Lifetime biopic. There was a time when most of our local ABC News anchors would get high before they aired....maybe even during breaks too. Lifetime's been showing the movie about Jessica Savitch more frequently. I see a Diane Sawyer version on the horizon. Anyway I'm glad AnnRomney's not going to get her wish to redecorate the White House. Good riddance to her and her husband, all the boys, and odd looking Paul Ryan (whose star is dimmed for now). I do have to give Mitt Romney credit for his concession speech. It was gracious and his crowd was too. They didn't boo the President and they showed a lot of class in that moment of deefeat. This morning's shows are a snoozefest so far. Maybe someone ought to bring up how all that "real Americans" rhetoric put some voters off and how that hatred with which the President was showered, motivated people who might not have planned to vote to show up and fight against the "true divisiveness." A changing demo is one thing but motivating that demo to push back afgainst the animosity and disdain that the Republican party has shown for them is another altogether. Pat Buchanan must be rollingi in his grave bed.
  4. I love Brit Hume's analysis....more Democrats turned out to vote than the Republicans expected.
  5. So all that too close to call business turned out to be bogus and the only excitement they had was Mitt Romney holding out.
  6. Good riddance... Ann Romney is going bye bye now.
  7. Mitt Romney called Barack Obama and he's going to concede in five minutes
  8. I think I've just heard the dumbest thing that I'm likely to hear all day on MSNBC but I could be wrong. One of their analysts is in Wisconsin and he said that Paul Ryan put Wisconsin in play. If I'm not mistaken, Paul Ryan has been on the ticket for months and he represents Wisconsin in Congress so how is it just recently in play when he should have made more of an impact ages ago. I can't believe these people are paid to bring us "information" that we can concoct all on our own. As for the whole comparison of Staten Island to New Orleans, if they cared enough to try to make a case they'd speak of Rockaway which has gone under the radar. The people on Staten Island who complained last week claimed that they were being overlooked because they were a blue collar neighborhood and the media attention brought them some results. One of the main problems with that type of crisis is that a number of people expect to be helped instantly and it doesn't take long to run out of patience and/or to think that they aren't being seen as a priority.
  9. I turned on MSNBC at 7 a.m. my time and was annoyed to see that special election special meant more Joe and Mika. I missed whatever Newt Gingrich said but Mike Barnicle expressed some dismay that he was unable to question him about some comment he made. I got the impression that he believed Newt Gingrich had made some false comparison of the response to Hurricane Katrina to Hurricane Sandy. According to them Mitt Romney knows he's going to win because their numbers tell them so. I don't get why Mitt Romney is on the trail today.
  10. It's odd how a few of those polls just show evaporation for Mitt Romney like all those people simply changed their minds about voting. That Reuters one seems to make the least sense.
  11. Yes, Santa Ana winds. By Friday it's supposed to drop to about 66. They're all over the map. They're crediting hurricane Sandy. They're blaming a possible Romney loss on the lying Jeep ad. Tamron Hall said it depends on how many white people turn out to vote:74% and Obama wins and 75% and Romney wins. Tomorrow they may come up with a new set of explanations and guesses.
  12. So you'll be basking baking in 92 degrees of Autumn weather. Analysts are great at not really analyzing. They're pointing out that Barack Obama has been met with smaller rally crowds than the masses of 2008. He must have been like a shiny new toy back in 2008 so why expect the same level of enthusiasm four years later? They ought to make the comparison to not so shiny but still kind of new Mitt Romney's rallies. I'm having trouble with their dead heat polls. IA with anyone saying this is for some sort of dramatic effect and they have until about 7 or 8 p.m. Eastern to drag this out. This morning on the only news radio station I can get, the political editor interviewed someone from Politico who was in Ohio covering the election. The guy tells him that Barack Obama's people are confident blah blah and the editor lets him know that Mitt Romney's people are just as confident. The Politico guy then mentions that Barack Obama has 70 overstaffed offices and when he checked on Mitt Romney's two, they were both closed. I guess they haven't caught up in the ground game.
  13. <iframe width="480" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/sZHlKpHZ7gI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  14. I've just seen the same Super-PAC ad for Mitt Romney on CNN and MSNBC run within seconds of each other. They used an excerpt from Mitt Romney's rally speech saying that Barack Obama can take that divisiveness back to Chicago. That kind of ad is wasted in Los Angeles County but it could work with some elements in Orange County and other pockets in California. It seems like a waste of their money though. Yes, it is amazing that I live in a state with 55 electoral votes and the voters in Ohio get all the attention. The Republicans will double down if Barack Obama wins because they'll be brimming with even more hatred, anger and animosity. But some of them will likely be up for re-election in a couple of years and the stranglehold of the Tea Party may have to be shaken on some of them..
  15. I'm not disappointed . You just reminded me but c'est la vie. I'm lost....what's TB? I'm thinking you meant TP as in Tea Party but maybe you're talking about something else. I found that Billy Graham endorsement suspect. Up until then his website referred to the Mormon religion as a cult. The Grahams must be saying that their hatred of Barack Obama outweighs their need to be true to their belief which renders their faith useless, if it can be swayed over politics. I'm not into the poll thing at all and the fact that Pew had Mitt Romney and Barack Obama even with women a few weeks ago and now they say Barack Obama has a 13 point edge is a great example. I didn't believe that Mitt Romney had an edge or broke even with women at any point. The confident candidate uses Donald Trump for robo calls and the one running scared sends Joe Biden out to tell Chris Matthews he thinks they are going to win but bring your mother and everyone else out to vote anyway. I like how Chuck Todd tried to cover his bases....you see the polls are still ever so close so can't really say who is going to win but if he were to pick who has a wee bit of momentum then it would be the President. The attacks on Chris Christie for complimenting Barack Obama are ridiculous.
  16. I don't believe this for a second....especially the "high for Romney" part. People in his party cannot even stand him and they're tolerating him because they want to beat Barack Obama so that doesn't speak to any high enthusiasm for Mitt Romney. I don't know about either one of these statements unless you mean those special Republican Independents who are masquerading as Independent for whatever reason. Suzy Homemaker women are probably okay with Mitt Romney but any woman who believes she should get paid the same for doing the same job as a man would be stupid to support Mitt Romney. I don't believe any poll that shows him with an advantage or equal to. If you want to use the oversampling argument for other things then here's another area in which oversampling should be applied. Seriously. Mitt Romney asking people to vote early for him so they can influence the media's narrative is the sign of a really confident man on offense. Next, I'd like to hear how the lying Jeep ad shows confidence that he's going to run away with Ohio and doesn't need Jon Husted to invalidate provisional ballots for him. Oh and let's not forget that desperate ad he's running in Florida in which he speaks in Spanish and connects Barack Obama to Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez. That is the sign of a man on offense alright. Don't let the truth get in the way of a really huge lie. You pretty much remind me of why I loathe partisan politics and don't wish to be associated with either party--the Republicans more so than the Democrats. Mainly because I find the Republicans to be more offensive and less conciliatory. I heard two people from the same state yesterday take opposing positions on candidates based on their own personal situations. The one who was thriving in her business said she was voting for Barack Obama, the other who was not said she voted for Mitt Romney because he's a good businessman. I feel sorry for everyone who relies on Mitt Romney as a good businessman. A lot of them don't understand how much cheap labor plays a part in the success of certain good businessmen and that the U.S. is not a good source of cheap labor so the idea that his business expertise is going to automatically translate to jobs for Americans is a fantasy. The economy was bad under George Bush and was bad again under his son George Bush but Republicans don't admit to that do they? Democrats are more willing to own up to their failures than Republicans who can only see what bad things Democrats do. Apparently the only thing that happened in Libya was the embassy murders. Anyone else that knows anything about Libya will also know that the Gadaffi is gone as well. They will also know that there have been successes as well. "Sandy happened" does that mean Barack Obama caused a hurricane? I don't even get that reference because so far he seems to have done his best to help, at least according to Chris Christie. A poor debate performance is a reason to get rid of a President but it's okay to elect a man with foot in mouth disease to go out and speak with foreign leaders? This is the part where I swear I'm convinced I landed in an episode of the "Twilight Zone" and logic is something other than it truly is.
  17. How Mitt Romney can win Ohio http://www.esquire.com/blogs/politics/jon-husted-voter-fraud-ohio-14403661 and why vote once when you can try to vote twice... http://www.nevadaappeal.com/article/20121104/NEWS/121109951/1006&parentprofile=1
  18. So then why haven't you provided the proof that Barack Obama associates with him other than having had him perform the benediction at his inauguration? You seem to be implying that they are in contact with each other and that Barack Obama shares his views....and you are saying that Barack Obama thinks his mother went to hell but let's play this game some more... Even if you want to go back to Jeremiah Wright and Barack Obama's 20 year membership in the church of which Jeremiah Wright was the pastor, then you might want to explain whether it's better to be a lifelong member in a church that had as part of its doctrine that black men could not be leaders in the church since they were by virtue of their race, going to hell? This is the doctrine that once abolished, Mitt Romney claims to have pulled his car over to the side of the road and wept. If he felt so strongly against that doctrine, then why be a part of it and explicitly or implicitly condone it? This great revelation from God that they claimed led to the change was the result of their desire to expand their church into Brazil where they would have had a hard time convincing so much of the population that they were going to hell because they had the wrong skin tone. Seriously, God just changed His mind one day and said "I' decided to let those evil black men into Heaven after all."
  19. My short response to this is does he keep company with Rick Warren who gave the inaugural prayer and all the other participants in the inaugural ceremony? Don't just pick one out--please give us the rundown on all of them and then give us the rundown on all the participants of the inaugural ceremonies of all the preceding Presidents. Then maybe you can explain to me why it's okay for Pat Robertson to condemn the people of New Orleans over Hurricane Katrina.... Why it's okay for Mike Huckabee to say that Christians who vote for Barack Obama are going to hell and seemingly taking the whole nation with them.... Why no outrage over the all the hatred and ugliness like the Southern Baptist leader who basically said that white people should be afraid of black men since they were more likely to do them harm (which is not supported by any crime statistics but just his racism)? Please enlighten.
  20. In the universe of media exaggeration one of HuffPost's front page stories used this to get attention World Series Champ Wears Controversial Shirt. The actual story headline is different. And it's apparently controversial because 1 out of the 27 tweets they included in their story, questions mixing sports with politics.
  21. I'm not sure how I'm being cynical. If you're referring to my position on Mitt Romney's "relief" contributions then it's no different from what I would say about anyone else who did the same thing and it's pretty much in line with whatever else I've said about people in general. They could have donated the money to the Red Cross or a relief agency instead of buying goods to make their candidate appear "charitable" in a crisis. Expressing concern and offering prayers would have sufficed. Staging takes us back to the story that Paul Ryan was washing clean pots at a soup kitchen. That comes across as manipulative in the worst way. Please don't mistake a comment about the average voter not caring about Libya as the equivalent of saying the situation was handled adequately. Pointing out Mitt Romney's inability to communicate effectively on that topic is not equivalent to saying it was handled adequately either. Since I don't know all the details I am not in a position to judge. Nor do I believe that all security related issues should be up for public consumption, if it threatens security. After re-reading my post, I am absolutely certain that I don't know what your definition of cynical is. Was I supposed to gloss over Mitt Romney's lies about Jeep? And I can pretty much dismiss Jeb Bush's attempt at trying to downplay FEMA by saying that it's all in the hands of the local and state governments. Is that his way of taking any blame of his brother for his team''s response to Hurricane Katrina? Anyone who wants to know "the truth" about Libya can always tune into Fox cable news. Other media outlets will probably spend the greater portion of their coverage on storm reporting so I'm going to assume that only the people who are really burning up about Barack Obama want the focus to be on Libya right now.
  22. Brian, I don't want to quote and end up with an excessively long post but I disagree with you on Libya. One of the things that both politicians and the media do extremely well is claim what the American people or the public wants, as if they have their finger on the pulse of the entire nation. IA with everyone who says that Libya is not an issue because it's way too complicated. Just like the gun program over which Darrell Issa was intent on destroying Eric Holder. Those issues are way too complex for the average voter. And I can't believe you take Mitt Romney not "hitting Obama hard on Libya" as telling anything more than his not wanting to get his foot stuck in his mouth, since it went poorly for him the times he did try to make it an issue. The way I saw it yesterday, Mitt Romney was encouraging people to vote early for him in hopes of influencing the media narrative in a way that would make him look like he was winning. I suppose he hopes that will get more voters on his side but that's not the narrative being told as of this moment. It's a far cry from his victory cheer of the prior week. It's his own "Field of Dreams." I don't know about Michael Moore but how is what the "panicked Liberals" saying any different from their normal criticisms of Mitt Romney? I might have overlooked his campaign rally turned relief effort--whether genuine or not if it weren't so blatantly political. His staff went to Walmart and purchased $5,000 worth of granola bars, etc. to make sure their donation truck look full and they handed bars to attendees to make it seem as if those individuals donated them. That's not bashing--that's revealing. Not only does Mitt Romney look bad for lying about Jeep and those 15,000 jobs he claims would be shipped to China (as if he's never been part of anything like that himself), but he looks particularly bad for the position he took regarding privatizing FEMA. Anyone paying attention to this disaster should wonder what would happen to all those people if the only solution they could count on was people donating canned goods and granola bars instead of assistance from the federal government.
  23. I heard them start with that yesterday. The response included in the link you provided is great:
  24. The problem with a candidate trying to turn a campaign event into a food drive is the suspicious media--let's forget that the Red Cross asks for money and blood donations not food.... http://www.washingto...45bc7_blog.html and that Gov. Christie saying nice things about the President isn't helping http://www.cbsnews.c...gn-after-sandy/ but you can still count on Fox and Friends to get started on the conspiracy theories. Yesterday when I heard it mentioned that the Friday report would probably be delayed, I immediately thought conspiracy theory on the way. Closing down the federal offices for two days for safety concerns is a ruse to keep the Labor Department from compiling data. Barack Obama might even be controlling the weather... John McCain might want to tone it down a bit too because he's coming across as more bitter than informative. I just find it hard to believe that anyone intending to vote could still be clueless on the Presidential candidates....propositions maybe but not those two.
  25. Never let the truth stand in your way when you can cause mass hysteria and win an election... http://www.cleveland.com/opinion/index.ssf/2012/10/flailing_in_ohio_romney_rolls.html
