  1. It was interesting to hear Tonya's perspective on Marland's tenure, but too bad Alan didn't delve a bit more into her comment that it made for a tense environment - that TPTB was paying attention to actors' life off-stage and incorporating that into the show. I heard it more broadly as affecting other stories as well.

  2. Andy Dixon (ATWT) was briefly paired up with school friend Kathy Evans, who had a drinking problem and got him into drinking as well. I don't remember all the details, but Kathy got depressed and overdosed and almost killed herself. That episode coincided with Kim's "Patterns" TV talk show that discussed this social problem and ended with a PSA.

  3. The debut novel of Greta Lind (AMC - Kate Kennicott) "Split Open" came out earlier this year and a few of her close friends held a virtual launch party on Zoom that is now available on YouTube. There was a brief mention of her time on AMC and castmate Michael Brainard (AMC - Joey Martin) showed up also. (The two reunited recently in a 13-episode podcast/drama-series called The Ernie Pyle Experiment that Michael wrote, co-produced, and starred in. It was a finalist in the 2021 Audie Award of the Audio Publishers Association, Drama category.)

    Slick's bits...

Every time his Hallmark movie with Debbie Gibson "SUMMER OF DREAMS" (2016) is on, I end up watching it. (Mostly because DG reminds me of the good ole days.  "Guidance Counselor Noah Burns" is a cutesy role....

I'll have to look up that movie then.  I was familiar with Prof. Ben on Queer as Folk.  Then last weekend in a rerun of Friends I realized that this boyfriend of Phoebe's is the same guy...  I do recall also his sporadic appearances on Y&R.

  5. Colleen Zenk (ATWT - Barbara) cries easily and quite naturally.

Say what you will about Deidre Hall's acting, but that woman can cry on cue like no other.

I don't watch Days enough, but I remember vividly an '80s interview of Tracey Bregman (Y&R - Lauren) where she gushed about being mentored by Diedre when she was Donna on Days (pre-Y&R).  Apparently she heard from Diedre that there is a muscle in the back of the neck that once you're trained to control it, you could cry on cue.  I know next to nothing about acting, but that just sounded so unusual and unbelievable  - and has stayed with me to this day.

This was a great interview. Alan's interviewing skills still suck. But theses interviews work.  When the actors are totally into them.

ITA! Such easy chemistry among the 3 of them after all these years - memorable, vivid details from their reminiscence.  Glad to hear about Marland and Calhoun, and grateful that Scott talked about Liz Hubbard and Gregg about Eileen.

Michael Swan could carry it off and Parker..everything I look at him he looks like he had a sling in his apartment..but he carried it off too. I think the Dobs or whomever thought it was "mod" and masculine to have facial hair..remember for a few months Bob had a beard!! One person who needs facial hair is Justin Deas...he looked much better and was hot as Tom...as Buzz..not at all!

^ I remember that about Bob! Larry Bryggman also went through phases of mustache.  Oddly enough I'm somewhat neutral about him with or without it.

The actor who played Brad also was in the first Friday The 13th released in 1980 with Kevin Bacon. Kevin was on Guiding Light at this time.

The 70's and 80's was a big time for men to have mustaches. Tom Selleck (Magnum P.I.), John Beck (Flamingo Road & Dallas), Lee Horsley (Matt Houston), Alex Trebek (Jeopardy), John Oates (Hall & Oates), Same Elliott (Movie Star), Burt Reynolds (Movie Star), John Stossel (20/20), Geraldo (Anchor & Talk show Host) etc etc....Baby Boomer guys were able to pull off that look, but younger generations (Gen X, Millennials, and Z) for the most can't make it work.

I can't imagine Michael Swan without a mustache, but IMHO the best one in soap-dom  was Joel Crothers (Edge of Night - R.I.P.) - though he was clean-shaven, I believe, in Dark Shadows.  The late Dennis Parker (Edge of Night) was another good one.

I remember the day ATWT was cancelled Les Moonves was being interviewed by Faber, Faber asked Moonves about it and Moonves made some very crass remarks about ATWT to Faber. I had to wonder if Moonves even knew that Masters was his mother-in-law.

^ Amazing - I did not know that.  (FWIW, Jenny Harris and David Faber have been married since Jan 2000 - ten years before the show was axed.)

  10.  ^ Speaking of Kathryn Hays - thank you for linking the article about her house back in February.  That article actually came out in December 2017 and the house finally sold in April of this year.  (The property address was in the photo caption.)  It sold way below the 2017 listing price (40% cut) and, based on open source information, the house was first listed in summer 2011, about a year after ATWT went off the air.  By the time the article came out in 2017, the listing price had already been cut quite a bit.

I realize that we like to bring up the longevity genes of ATWT vets in this thread, but I truly and sincerely hope they are enjoying their retirement with whatever means they have.  Here's a short video of Hays from 2011 talking about her Mom's final days at a hospice:

I always kind of thought Bob cheating on kim with Susan was perfect karma..since kim pursued bob when he was married to her sister Jennifer.  Glad Nancy pointed that out to kim.

Did she now? Nancy being salty?

This is the only clip that I know of where Nancy pointed out the affair to Kim.

  12. So sad...  About ten years ago while flipping through channels one night, I was surprised to see him on Bravo's reality show of fitness trainer Jackie Warner, whose clients at the time included Kris St. John.  Notwithstanding the silly premise, he was a really down-to-earth person in that episode and very earnest in going through the regimen.  He was in such a good shape.

    Rest in peace...
