  1. It all boils down to what we discussed earlier by Scott not interacting with that many people

    Not at all.

Them not working had nothing to do with who they did or didn't interact with & everything to do with who they were as individuals.

    As Ryan/Lauren?

...Stuff symphonic fanfic dreams are made of.

  2. Scott/Jill (like Ryan/Jill) would've looked pretty paired together but wouldn't have worked from a personality POV.

Scott was way too sweet (in a good way) for a woman as strong Jill.

Jill works best with men who are as strong, ambitious & bold as she is like Jack, Bobby, Ji Min, & Larry.

  3. I loved Leanna (no pun intended)

The best thing about Barbara is that like Beau any time Y&R needs her she's willing to return (despite never should've having left).

There's really no excuse why Maria hasn't asked her to return (if Latham could she can).

Especially given all the current drama & her extensive ties to almost every character on canvas.

Terry also said he wished Jack had been paired with Cassandra. I wonder if that would have worked.

    It would've.

    Terry had chemistry with everyone.

  4. Thanks! I guess Nina chose David over him?

    Not quite.

Nina was mourning Phillip when David swept in & married her with the irony being that when Chase finally fell for her she had fallen for someone else (David).

    like Leanna Love

One of Bill's bigger mistakes was getting rid of Barbara Crampton.

She always was (and still is) a lot of fun.

Speaking of Cricket, there was an article on loosening standards and morals on soaps, regarding sex scenes, and they had a quote from Terry Lester where he basically said the most offensive thing on Y&R was Cricket sucking Scott's tongue even when she had begun to think they were half-siblings. I was like, wow Terry, don't hold back.

Cricket & Scott were disgusting (not just because of the incest issue) but because Peter Barton is really hot & Lauralee has the sex appeal of a wet sponge.

  5. So how long was Chase around?

    A few years.

    Did he just vanish?

He was written out toward the end of Nina/David's marriage.

Was he one of those nice guys who was just a spoiler

    Nope.

I have only ever seen him during that horrific Christmas episode where Danny, Phillip, Scott, and Chase all gave Cricket presents.

    Everybody Loves Cricket.

Did they ever have any feelings for each other?

Yep (more him then her) but unfortunately the time was never right for them.

  6. I generally wonder what a typical Y&R co-star of Eric's can talk to him about before the cameras start shooting?.....

Ego aside Braeden is NOT the only one that keeps the tension in that relationship.

i take that Jerry did not get on with Brenda huh?

    Nope.

The worse she got the worse their relationship got.

How did Eric and Terry get along Deedee?

Eric & Terry liked each other.

  7. Deeede do you remember any scenes at all between Brenda and Melody,

They mainly interacted in group scenes during Brenda's first run & during her second they had a few scenes but nothing particularly significant.

Bell did step in between Braeden and Bergman there around 1993/1994 didn't he?

There was (and still is) tension between Braeden & Bergman from Day 1.

They seriously should have been long lost sisters instead of Lauren.... soo many awesome one liners come out of an argument between Nikki amd Jill.

The best thing about Nikki & Jill is much like Katherine & Nikki, Katherine & Nina, Jill & Nina, Katherine/Jill/Nina, and/or Katherine & Jill the actors are so good they can basically ad lib whole scenes themselves.

    She seems like a sweetheart

Jess is very sweet & very professional.

What did Mr. Braeden think of Ms. Dickson?

Braeden was...amused (but for the most part couldn't be bothered).

Now Jerry Douglas? Is a different story.

At the time I'm sure Cooper and some other vets may have felt that way, but nowadays I don't see it much mainly due to Y&R's younger generation being so gutted these days and old man Grambo dominates the show.

Jeanne is Jeanne. Which is all that really needs to be said.

  8. So was it bad at the time when Nikki married Greg, do you think that some of that bad blood between them originates to that?

    No.

Jill was not happy about Nikki marrying Greg (neither was Snapper) but Nikki & Jill have always just plain not liked each other.

They have been civil over the years but for the most part Nikki thinks Jill's an annoying hag & Jill thinks Nikki is a vapid bimbo.

i'm sure claws were coming out.

    They sure were.

Brenda was hella jealous of MTS.

She considered herself Y&R's star & Jill a "misunderstood heroine" which the character hadn't been in years.

It got worse as MTS became Y&R's Lead actresses & half of Y&R's main supercouple.

    Everybody loves Jess.

She's one of the few cast members that's universally adored.

  9. With all the David Kimble mess, its kind of hard to imagine them getting introduced to them so quickly after that to the point they had this little story together.

David was dead by Halloween so it wasn't really a stretch.

they really weren't friends till way later.

They were co workers that became best friends (especially when they both started having marriage problems).

They weren't BFF's (except Cricket/Nina & later Neil/Ryan) but were all fairly friendly associates.

also another thing i'm wondering, when exactly did the tension between Nikki and Jill start? Like when did they start showing signs of disliking each other?

Jill & Nikki have never liked each other.

At best they tolerate each other.

Did Brenda as Jill get to go at it with Nikki back in the day?

Not so much in front of the camera...

  10. Not quite the same as an umbrella storyline with everybody involved but what did you think of that storyline where a bunch of characters (Cricket, Nina, Danny, Neil and I think Nathan and Paul) had to go rescue Dru from a porn studio?

That one was fine (campy but fine) cause everyone involved made sense.

  11. I know this may be a dumb question but why does being the number 1 show drive all of this backstage rivalry and egotistical people

    Y&R's always had huge egos.

It just went from bad to worse once Brenda, Eileen, Terry & Thom left, Braeden was made Y&R's de facto centerpiece & Bergman arrived.

    On Y&R though?

    Yep.

Kimberlin was extremely popular so much so that she eclipsed Tracey who was doing some of the best work of her career.

She definitely provided B&B with a shot in the arm too though.

Overall its understanable that Sheila was better used on B&B, because Y&R was such a big cast, and it would be impossible to have her interact with everyone there, while it was easier on B&B.

Plus Bill didn't do "clown car" umbrella stories (like now) where EVERYBODY had to be involved in umbrella stories.

I always thought that Sheila and Nina becoming enemies would have been interesting

Nina was way too busy with her own issues (including her own psycho) to deal with Sheila too.

Her 2005 return looked like it was okay, but there were soo many things that could have shaped it up better

Her 2005 "return" was a bad idea to begin with & a disaster from the word go.

and Maria "Hell" just keeps making it worse........

    Yep.

  12. Besides the tension between Braeden and Bergman what were the other backstage issues at Y&R in the early 90s?

    WAY too many to mention.

Suffice it to for all their respective respect for Bill Bell egos were plenty & jealousy was a constant issue.

And the Tori Spelling of Daytime ate the show like nobody since Kelli Maroney.

Do you think more should have been done to step on them?

    Definitely.

Especially after Bill's health became an issue (cause nobody could write his show better than him) but even after Bill retired Kay & Ed were able to run a relatively tight ship.

It wasn't until Jack Smith became HW & CBS began really exerting their influence that Y&R hit the point of no return.

  13. Backstage issues with Peter and Tracey? or others?

    Backstage issues with EVERYBODY

Well of course Bill would love Kimberlin

    Loving Kimberlin is one thing.

    Overusing her is another.

Did people at the time even know who Sheila was

    They did.

Her initial umbrella story just didn't include the entire canvas (not necessarily a bad thing).

    And Sheila's 2005 "return"? HORRIBLE.

and its not like she grew up with him.

    Exactly.

And still she (like Lauren) was fairly upset after he died.

But these changes did work for the time being, as many people have said.

But these changes did work for the time being, as many people have said.

    It did.

It also created a situation where a horrible writer (like LML) could ruin Y&R's existing paradigm without much effort.

  14. Why did it seem like when Lauren and Scott were a couple on Y&R they never really interacted with that many people on Y&R.

A mix of backstage issues & Bill loving Kimberlin.

Peter Barton was indeed just a so so actor

Barton was never gonna be Terry Lester good but he's always been a solid actor.

but why did it seem like Scott who was the older brother of Cricket who everyone loved (except David Kimble, and Michael etc...) did not get that much attention for that.

    Two words.

    Bergman & Braeden.

Was Scott even aware that his sister had to fake her death at the masquerade ball to trap David, or that she was nearly raped by Michael?

The death no. The rape yes.

They were close (not Victoria & Nick close) but close nonetheless.

I guess it was because most of these people got jobs at Jabot/ or Newman

    *cough*Cricket*cough*

That, Y&R's shift to business stories, backstage drama & increasing network pressure is why there was so much change.

  15. Being so young I thought Jill/Rex/Katherine was fun it wasn't later I read criticism of it (ie Katherine and Jill fighting over another man).

Jill, Rex & Katherine were awesome since Jess had really begun to make the character her own by that point.

And for all "criticism" Katherine & Jill fighting (when written well) will never get old.

Whatever the reason, it was a brilliant move by Bell to have Lindsay sell the photos to Katherine.

THAT is how an umbrella story is supposed to be work (one that lasts YEARS & has repercussions for DECADES).
