  1. Random question: how long have they been using Stamford Hospital in Connecticut as the exterior of PVH? I didn't expect to see it in some early 80s episodes I was watching a few days ago.

Probably around then. The Stamford Hospital structure as we know it wasn't built until the early 70s.

Well, having been born and raised in Stamford, I think AMC started using the exterior of hospital in the late 70s. I think around 1978. I always thought that Pine Valley reminded me of my town anyway, especially in the 80s.

Then we know two different Stamfords, diva!

  2. "But I can tell from some letters that some people don't know the difference between reality and illusion. It doesn't stop with me. These people probably think Dr. Martin is a real doctor. I kind of feel sorry for them. They're out of touch with reality and need help."

"[Erica]'s like a child -- someone who is 14 years old and never got beyond that."

Wow... I find that to be amazingly "candid" of Susan Lucci, considering the Susan Lucci of today. The one who is filled with nothing but politically correct, industry-friendly sound bites. I also find it interesting to read Lucci describe Erica, in essence, as a grown woman with the psyche of a teenager. I doubt she'd say that about Erica today -- no matter how much it remains true.

  3. Yeah the early Chandler stuff was quite gothic (I wonder when Adam gave up on his love for Asian sculptures...). OK refresh my memory, who was Phillip Peter...

Agnes seemed to have a somewhat secret love of the gothic, it's never really mentioned when people talk about her work. And for Rebecca style sinister housekeepers--Helga, Joanna, Myra--who of course turned out to not be so sinister...

Secret love? Surely, you jest, Eric. Wasn't it mentioned in...

    ALL HER CHILDREN?!

  4. That 1984 episode was pretty damn good. I like how Brooke took matters in her own hands. That would NEVER happen today. A female character on the canvas would never be portrayed as strong and determined enough to put all the pieces together herself and then proceed to confront her attacker alone. On this show today she'd be wringing her hands while Ryan saved the day. It's funny how 27 years later, women in soaps have regressed to needing a man to be their hero.

  5. That was a great read. We all know that things are different now, but I wonder how different. Like, do they still have those moments where the actors just hang around on the sets, waiting for their scene to come up? That sounds like something that they really don't have time for anymore.

It's not necessarily that they don't have time, it's just there's no need with block taping. Actors come in, get made up and dressed, then they're called to set when needed. smile.png

ETA: Ooh, yay! I'm post #600!!

  6. "...I saw not a hint of true grief in Miss Warrick's acting, only a lot of absurd writithing on chairs and dreary semi-orgasmic hysterics."

All I could do was picture Phoebe giving a lap dance to an empty chair. She's told her daughter was in a car crash and immediately goes and straddles a chair, humping and grinding and moaning...

  7. One of my favorite Erica & Brooke rivalry lines was when Brooke wasn't even in the scene. In high school, Bianca wanted to work with Laura at the homeless shelter, and Erica refused. Bianca wanted to know why, and with disgust, Erica says "It's run by Brooke English, for one thing!" It just spoke volumes to their feud. Bianca could've been offered a job as CFO of Microsoft. If it was run by Brooke English, Erica would categorically forbid it.

  8. How did her feud with Erica start? Did Tom cheat on Erica with Brooke or did Brooke get with him after Erica and that drove Erica crazy?

It dates back to Tom, but before Tom and Erica were married. Brooke made it known she wanted Tom as well, which Erica hated... a rivalry is born.

  9. For some reason I think the first time we actually saw Roscoe was when he was on the plane. I thought they sort of painted it as a surprise when Jim and JT were the same man.

We saw him first in New York. It was set up that there was some sort of sketchy connection between J.T. and Laura. So when J.T. boarded the plane to Pine Valley after Brooke, it was played as "what's he up to?" Also, and I have on tape somewhere, the scenes leading up to the crash. While on the plane, Brooke and Edmund were chatting. J.T. was seated behind them. Every time Brooke mentioned Laura, they'd cut to J.T. eavesdropping on her conversation. That would've been too broad of a suggestion if there wasn't that previous set up that J.T. knew who Laura was.
