I wonder what that means - the first episode they will show on Friday, March 1st, is 3135 (that is, the start of S13), so I don't understand why they would upload the last episodes from S12 without showing them. It is, however, GREAT news if they will upload S13 in its entirety - I've been waiting for this season in English for many years!

I'm currently at episode 2247, right at the beginning of the mercury storyline! Here are my thoughts about the storylines of late 1995/early 1996: Sheila's storyline: To me, Sheila is the best thing about this time period. Late 1995 (after Anthony's exit) was almost unwatchable to me until she returned - there was virtually no drama and all the storylines led to a dead end (Taylor/Eric, Dylan/Maggie, Sally stealing designs, Rick's tantrums, Taylor's stalker). But things are so much better now that Sheila is a major character again. Bridget's paternity: This much anticipated reveal has shaken things up and brought a lot of drama. Some of it is quite contrived (like everyone believing Brooke bribed Dr Peters with very little evidence, Brooke conveniently leaving town, Stephanie suddenly encouraging Eric to go for custody of the kids despite him apparently being unable to take care of them in his own home, or Ridge immediately giving up his role as Bridget's father) and seems designed to make Brooke the heroine and Stephanie the villain, but it's interesting to see the whole thing unfold, mainly because of Sheila's involvement. Jessica/Sly: This whole storyline, like everything involving Jessica, is the weakest link. Jessica just isn't a compelling character, and her plan to "teach Sly a lesson" by pretending to be pregnant after he almost forced himself on her doesn't ring true at all. Maggie/James: I'm not really feeling this couple. Maggie is like nails on chalkboard to me, and James just isn't fit to be in any kind of romantic role. The Spectra storyline: The Spectras have been backburnered for a while, but I am looking forward to Clarke's return and the strange storyline that will follow. I still remember those creatively ugly designs quite vividly! Lauren is a good addition although she doesn't quite have much of a storyline right now.

Yes, the first half of 1995 has a lot of action! Then the second half of 1995 has no exciting storylines left and we're left with dull storylines that go nowhere - Maggie's relationship with Dylan that just ends without Jessica finding out, Eric's flirtation with Taylor that just ends without Stephanie finding out, Taylor's stalker that just stops stalking her and I don't think we even find out who it was, Rick throwing tantrums that go nowhere, Sally stealing designs but changing her mind after Eric's fake proposal and then the whole thing is forgotten with no lasting consequences for anyone - just a whole bunch of anticlimaxes and no payoff. Sheila singlehandedly saves the show by returning in late 1995 and breathing new life into it.

I find the Anthony Armando storyline of 1995 absolutely fascinating! It's one of my all-time favorites, for many reasons. It is just brilliantly structured (it is Anthony's introduction storyline played backwards, combined with clever variations on many major plot points from Thorne and Macy's previous storylines), it has hints of Faust, Shakespeare's Othello, and folk tales like Little Red Riding Hood, and Michael Sabatino is great as a psychotic villain.

I'm at that point too and it is VERY uncomfortable to watch! It's like even the actors don't like it. I am just waiting for it to be over. The show had very little going on during the fall of 1995. Now Sheila is back and it's finally getting somewhat interesting again with the whole One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest thing. But anything involving Jessica or Rick is barely watchable to me.

Exactly! The first half of 1995 has a lot going on, and then suddenly after the summer, ALL the major storylines (Taylor's return from the dead, Sheila's goodbye party, Ivana's murder) have culminated and vanished, and we're stuck with the D and E storylines (Jessica/Dylan/Maggie, preteen Rick throwing tantrums, chemistry testing Taylor with Eric) and nothing much else.

I like early 1995 too! I think both Sheila's and Anthony's storylines are well done and suspenseful. The thing with the letters has a dark Faust/Othello feel to it that I'm enjoying. It's like Ivana just signed a contract with the devil by writing that letter and then losing control of it as it takes on a life of its own. And of course it is a nice continuity nod to those letters that Keith wrote to Macy two years earlier. Oddly, for me it's the "A storyline" (Taylor coming back from the dead and S-L-O-W-L-Y revealing herself) that I find the weakest. It just went on for way too long, and at some point Taylor's increasingly contrived disguises and accents became a running joke.

So I just made it to episode 2100, and the year 1995 has been exactly the way I remembered it. It kept the momentum up until the point where Sheila and Anthony got written out (and I thoroughly enjoyed watching both of them go off the rails), but then it dropped DEAD. There is literally nothing going on. The major conflict is the poorly built triangle between Jessica, Dylan and Maggie (with Maggie supposedly being more in love than ever before in her life after knowing a guy for a few weeks). The rest is basically things wrapping up (Thorne/Macy planning a wedding, Sally/Jasmine getting out of the hospital, Taylor divorcing Ridge and moving into the beach house while Ridge and Brooke are happy together) or very very minor plot developments (Rick and CJ getting into a fight at baseball practice - oh, the drama!). The first half of 1995 I really enjoyed watching because of the dark "twin storylines" of Sheila and Anthony. They felt like the final acts of two story arcs that had been developing for a long time - Sheila's past with Lauren in Genoa City finally catching up to her and driving her to take extreme action, and Anthony's obsession with Macy (which was there from his first episode) finally coming to a head in a storyline that (cleverly) was built almost entirely on twisted fragments of Thorne's, Macy's, and Anthony's character histories. There was a sense of long term storytelling, structure, and payoff to those two storylines. Taylor's return from the dead, however, had well and truly lost its momentum by 1995. It had been dragged on for too long and at this point her disguises and phony accents were ridiculous rather than intriguing. And her revelation to Ridge - the culmination of 10 months of storyline - fell flat. And since Jessica was such a lackluster character, putting more focus on her by setting up a triangle with her and her mother was a mistake in my opinion. Especially since Dylan is a far more dynamic character when he's away from Jessica (he even has more chemistry with Sally). The fall of 1995 is the first time I feel like the show could have ended and I would be okay with that.

I remember the whole Ivana/Jessica storyline so differently from how it actually played out. The way I remembered it, Jessica was good and innocent and Ivana was the mean girl. But watching it now I find Ivana a LOT more interesting as a character than Jessica. Ivana is mischievous and jealous but still in a kind of relatable way, Jessica is just an annoying kid who thinks she's more mature than she really is. And I actually liked the fallout between Sally and Macy (although it was for a silly reason) - what I didn't like was how the (inevitable) reconciliation seemed to be over and done with in just one episode, as if the writers were in a hurry to push the reset button. I would have liked to see more of a gradual realization on Sally's part. Sheila and Mike are always a joy to watch!

Yes, exactly! I think inserting James undercover in this storyline really vitalized it (just watching Taylor completely isolated as Leila wasn't very interesting). And Ahmed is the single most redeeming thing about this entire storyline. He is just charming. (He also reminds me of an uncle who was an important part of my life when I was growing up.)

Totally random observation: The Morocco storyline suddenly and unexpectedly got 100% better when James met Ahmed! I can't believe how well they play off each other! I could easily watch an entire spinoff where these two gentlemen doctors solve cozy mysteries together in the Moroccan desert while drinking tea, discussing philosophy, and having silly interactions with bellydancers. Ahmed gives me Dr Watson vibes.

I feel a little differently about this period - although I felt the second half of 1994 was slow and the Princess Laila/Leila/Layla? (did we ever get an official spelling of that name?) not nearly as good as I remember it, I am really enjoying what I've seen so far of the end of 1994 and the first part of 1995. It seems that around Christmas 1994, all four storylines are *finally* showing some movement - the secret of Taylor being alive starting to come out as James puts two and two together, Sheila starting therapy with James, Thorne and Macy rekindling their romance and getting an actual storyline besides a studio session every two weeks (and I do love the Rotterdam episodes), even the supremely boring Jessica and Dylan storyline gaining some momentum with the trial. I am looking forward to seeing the first part of 1995 in its entirety, with Taylor's return to LA, Sheila's going off the rails, and Ivana's murder storyline. The first half of 1995 contains some of the soapiest moments in the show's history. I personally really like the whole psycho Anthony story - it is even one of my all time favorites (bear with me here, lengthy explanation ahead!). Sure, it's over the top but in an "archetypal" or fairy tale way that makes total sense to me because Anthony is as pure a "Big Bad Wolf" character as I've ever seen on this soap. After watching Anthony's introduction storyline a while ago I am appreciating his exit storyline even more since I realized his psycho killer storyline is really a twisted repeat of his first six months on the show, but magnified and played *in reverse*. Anthony is basically retracing his steps throughout this storyline. There are so many "mirror scenes" one and a half years apart that make for excellent foreshadowing (like the dead cat scene, or the bathing suit/wedding gown "pranks", or the obvious parallels between his first and his last meeting with Macy). Also, I really like the parallels to Shakespeare's Othello at the end.

It truly is a frustrating thing to watch when two powerhouses like Stephanie and Sally have nothing better to do than fight over the love life of a 17 year old. But other than that, I'm actually looking forward to the early 1995 storylines - Taylor returning to LA, Sheila going crazy, Ivana's murder. Those are all high stakes storylines. Jessica's storyline is really the one that drains the energy out of the show. The rest is actually getting good right about now (I am currently watching Dec 1994 episodes). But from the moment she came on the show in the summer of -94, I felt a shift in tone. She just doesn't fit very well into the show as a whole (note that Jessica never played any part in a storyline other than her own, but *everyone* is somehow drawn into hers).

I just started watching the Rotterdam episodes - when I first watched the show, the Morocco storyline and the Rotterdam storyline were my two favorites of 1994. And while I was unimpressed by the Morocco/Princess Laila storyline this time around, I have to say the Rotterdam storyline is still epic and holds up as one of my favorite parts of the show ever. The excitement of a stadium full of people singing along to the entire concert, the backstage drama with Macy's illness, the airplane scenes that range from hilarious to heartbreaking, the awesomely heartwarming moment when lifelong rivals Eric and Sally embrace triumphantly after having saved the show together for their children's sake, Thorne and Macy's connection on and off stage, Sally being larger than life in everything she says and does... and knowing that these four actors actually did this journey and this concert together for real and that all the audience reactions are real. The show has never done anything quite like it before or since.
