  1. Only having four soaps has made daytime stale. The same small pool of actors that seem to move back and forth between the four shows. A few years ago, an ABC executive said the soap opera genre is dead and that there will never be another new soap. It's been about 20 years since the last new one. They went from twelve shows to four. They used to replace the ones they cancelled with new ones. That changed.

  2. Kim Zimmer was on four soaps when they were cancelled. On The Doctors, she played a character previously played by Kathryn Harrold and Kathleen Turner. Santa Barbara was cancelled with her in the cast. One Life to Live was cancelled with her in the cast. Both her stints on Guiding Light had her driving millions of viewers away. GL fans derisively called it The Reva Shayne Show. Her second stint ended with the cancellation of the longest running program in broadcasting history. Guiding Light soared in the ratings after Zimmer left in 1990. GL was clicking on all cylinders under the wise leadership of Robert Calhoun over the next three years. GL actually supplanted Days of our Lives as daytime's most popular soap. This was unimaginable prior to then.

  3. How is Laura Wright iconic? She has been on four soaps where she was literally on five days a week every week of every year. She never even went on maternity leave. God forbid she miss even one episode, let alone three months or six weeks. Yet, the ratings cratered on each soap. I stopped watching Loving not long after she joined. I even checked out The City for a while. She replaced Noelle Beck as Loving's heroine. She never did fill those shoes. Loving got cancelled. The City lasted one year. She joined Guiding Light at the perfect time, when it was in a resurgence. The ratings were between 4 and 4.5 around that time. When she left, it was down to 2.1. She went to General Hospital because she wanted to be on magazine covers. Talk about shallow. Wonder what she thinks now that there is only one magazine left and nobody has read it for years? GH had a 3.1 rating at the time. After two years of her being on every day (as were the other actresses who played Carly), the ratings dropped to 1.5. Notice a trend? That's half the audience gone. GH has been the subject of serious cancellation talk the last few years. It keeps getting renewed despite hovering in the 1.5 range consistently.

  4. Taylor on AMC killed a man with her bare hands, a great women power moment in soap history. Contrast that with Harley on GL constantly being assaulted and beaten up despite being a cop with self defense training.

As for Harley being CEO of Spaulding Enterprises, it was very brief and she wasn't any less qualified than its other CEOs. Heck, there are many unqualified CEOs in real life. You are forgetting that Harley was established in the very beginning as very smart. She was a math and computer wiz. She later worked at SE as a computer programmer. Other SE CEOs: sociopath Alan, psychopath criminal Roger, brainless ditz Alexandra, sex on the brain Phillip, in over his head Alan-Michael.

  5. Another bit of house cleaning regarding the troll that keeps bringing up J R. Martinez. Beth did an interview. She was asked why she was never on. She explained that Chuck Pratt wasn't writing for her. She was asked why. She gave the reason, not her opinion. She explained why Pratt wasn't writing for her and J.R. Not what she thought, what she knew to be the reason. Someone called J.R. and misrepresented what Beth was said. J. R.  called/texted Beth, because they were friends and he had her number. She explained what she said and everything was fine. It was over in a few minutes. They were cool. There's a blind item in his book (which flopped by the way) that looks like it was written by the same person who wrote the lie-filled blind item in Zimmer's book. Same editor? Everything in it is wrong. Probably why they are blind items. If they were true, there's no need to make it a blind item (lawsuits). It's a story that J.R. told many times on talk shows, including The View with Beth sitting next to him, he told it to Jay Leno on The Tonight Show. He told it on other shows and in magazine interviews. It was a cute, funny story about their first kissing scene. He stuck his tongue down her throat and she recoiled in horror as anyone would do. Somehow this story changed to make it dark in the blind item in his book. It says they never did a scene again or spoke again. Obvious lies. They did scenes for months after that including making love, getting engaged, breaking up, and the dance marathon that were her last episodes. There was also the interview conversation, and lastly they were photographed smiling with their arms around each other two months after she left AMC at the AMC fan luncheon. When J.R. talked about writing his book, he said it would be about the great people he met at All My Children, including Beth Ehlers and Michael E. Knight. When the book finally cane out, there was no mention of Beth, just the nonsensical blind item. I guess the book's editor had different ideas about what the book should be.  J.R. also expressed sadness that Beth wasn't moving to L.A. with the show. More recently, he's liked Tweets mentioning her and him.

The idea that anyone here would impugn Beth Ehlers' character when she has done so much good in her life is crazy. She cares more about other people than she does about herself. She is selfless, a rare quality in the acting world. She has done endless charity work, been a volunteer EMT, a volunteer rape counselor. Meanwhile, the bitter old nasty rude shut-ins here have accomplished nothing good in their worthless wasted lives. You have never helped anyone and you think you can act morally superior? Your whole life is calling people names on a soap opera message board! Nothing is funnier than seeing elderly people trying to be cool by posting emojis and memes as insults: "Duh, am I doing it right kiddies, duh?" I can only imagine you buffoons on SnapChat.

  6. The funny thing about the troll spreading the dual Watros/Bogue lies about Beth Ehlers is that she says Beth slept with "all" her co-stars, but when you press her to say which ones, she says no to all of them. Carl Evans? No. Rick Hearst? No. Morgan Englund? No. Robert Newman? No. Michael O'Leary? No. Grant Aleksander? No. Murray Bartlett? No. What about Daniel Cosgrove? Crystal Chappell said he had a huge crush on her. No. Ricky Paul Goldin? No. Okay, who does that leave? Oh, "all" the Malletts. Two people? There was actually a third Mallett. A guy who was on Loving who filled in for Derwin for a couple weeks when he had surgery on his leg. There's no evidence the relationship with Derwin was ever consummated. We know the Bogue story isn't true. That crap about it being awkward for Beth, Bruno, and Bogue? Not true. There are many pictures of all of them together where they are smiling and laughing and have their arms around each other from the time the troll claims the "fling" happened in late 2005 all the way up until late 2008. They even sat next to each other at a GL fan event in Virginia after that time.

  7. Keep laughing "Paul" You just show your ignorance and delusion. Keep living in your Alternate Reality Universe where the people you like are popular and the people you hate are unpopular. The ratings and every magazine and soap site poll (where she dominated and was #1 for all the years she was on GL, even beating out actresses from other soaps from all three networks) and the TVQ rating are evidence of Beth Ehlers' immense popularity. Nothing a hack like you can say can change that. Funny that some troll who posts in a thread about Guiding Light, a show that's been off the air for 11 years, is trying to claim Beth Ehlers wasn't popular. She not only was popular, she was the only reason the show lasted as long as it did. Beth wasn't on the show either time the show was cancelled. You know who was? Your favorites! Now THAT is funny. When Beth left in 1993, GL starting losing viewers like a sieve. Amazingly, it was the OJ trial that saved GL from losing more viewers. Kim Zimmer returned in late 1995 and failed to increase the audience even slightly. Beth Ehlers came back in 1997 twice and both times the ratings increased by more than a full point. That's about a million and a half viewers. Combine that with the fans who were still watching and you get multiple millions. I know math is hard for most people.

  8. The lie about Beth Ehlers and Cynthia Watros having a "fling" comes from the same troll spreading the lie about Beth having a "fling" with Rob Bogue. How do we know? It's literally the same story with the same laughable premise. Beth is going to have an out-of-nowhere lesbian fling with a random co-star she barely knew. There's no evidence they were friends or ever socialized. In 20 years on GL, she's gonna have a one-time-only lesbian "fling" with Watros? Why not Maureen Garrett, a now out lesbian, who was a good friend of Beth's? Why not any of the many female co-stars Beth was close friends with? Because the lie comes from Kim Zimmer's assistant. Zimmer's assistant hates both Watros and Ehlers, two actresses she felt were a threat to her boss' GL supremacy (or shall I say perceived supremacy). The Bogue story is equally laughable. This is where Beth and Bogue were supposed to be having an affair and decided to leave their spouses and get married and have kids. The worst fan fiction ever. So many implausiblities. First of all, why have an affair and then end it because he won't leave his wife? You're having an affair. Who cares if he leaves his wife? Secondly, the part about having kids. Clearly that is saying you won't have kids unless you are married. This makes having an extramarital affair pointless. Ever since Beth was 19, she talked about wanting to be a mother and wanting a lot of kids. She wanted to get married and have kids. She didn't want children out of wedlock. She didn't want to be a single mother. She didn't want to adopt. She wanted a family unit: mother, father, and children under the same roof. If Beth wanted to get married and have more kids, she would've done so.

Beth's first marriage ended the day it started. She and her husband rarely saw each other before the wedding. He was a doctor who worked round-the-clock hours. She was at GL. They realized on their wedding day they made a mistake. They realized they would be too busy and wouldn't be able to have kids for many years. They decided to be best friends. Beth referred to her first husband as her best friend 15 years later on The Martha Stewart Show. The second marriage was on the rocks for a variety of reasons: She wanted more kids, he didn't, he supposedly cheated on her, she may have been raped and it caused friction in the marriage (she worked as a volunteer rape counselor after the divorce).

I was told years ago the relationship with Derwin ended because she caught him with another woman, and it wasn't the first time or the only woman. Considering how obsessively in love with her he was and how brief their relationship was, that could only mean she wasn't putting out. No other reason for him to look elsewhere. It's pretty clear Derwin never wanted to be a father. He turns 60 in a few months and still isn't a father. He may have proposed to Beth thinking she would have sex with him and she told him not until after the wedding when they were trying to have babies.

  9. When Beth Ehlers left GL the first time, it was because Phelps didn't offer her a contract. Her contract was up at the same time as Derwin's. Phelps and Derwin hated each other's guts. They were having a very public feud in the magazines, calling each other names. It was obvious why she didn't offer him a new contract. Beth was collateral damage since she was dating him at that time. When word got out that Ehlers and Derwin were leaving the show, the higher ups stepped in and offered them contracts. But, it was too late as they had already bought a house in Los Angeles. They were actually allowed out of their contracts a little early so they could move in.

When Beth left GL the second time, it was because Wheeler didn't offer her a contract. Wheeler had been dropping people from contract like crazy. Beth could not afford to go off contract. Many of GL's actors came from wealthy families and had money outside of their GL salary, Beth did not. She got the offer from AMC to play Liza and she took it. Unfortunately, Brian Frons wanted to focus his energy on trying to save SoapNet. He put the three ABC soaps in the hands of three showrunners. He fired AMC's headwriters, James Harmon Brown and Barbara Esensten, who had written for GL during both of Beth's stints. Brown and Esensten were the only headwriters who did not go on strike. They along with Addy Walsh, who also didn't go on strike, gave AMC a big advantage during the strike. So what did Brown and Esensten get for sticking their necks out for AMC? Fired. Frons brings in prolific failure and lifelong loser Chuck Pratt to run the show.  When Ehlers showed up to sign her contract after having to wait two months, Pratt decided she would play a new character created by him instead of Liza. Beth, being wary and smart, only signed for one year instead of a long-term contract. Pratt refused to write for this character he created. He gave her no family or connections other than Frankie Hubbard. He immediately ditched plans to put Beth's character with Goldin's character. He put Goldin's character with someone else at the start. He also ditched plans to put her character with Tad, something that eventually happened as a last ditch effort to get Beth to sign a new contract. Beth refused to sign a new contract. They did get her to stay for an extra month so she could air in September when the announcement of who would be moving to Los Angeles with the show was made. Even though Beth left the show in July 2009, ABC wanted to give the appearance she was still with the show. They sent her to Los Angeles in late August to attend the Daytime Emmys and then to New York to attend the AMC fan luncheon. They released statements in late September saying she didn't want to uproot her kids and relocate to Los Angeles, even though she left before the August announcement that the show was moving to L.A. This was ABC saving face after facing blistering criticism from the soap press about how they botched Beth's introduction by not announcing or promoting they had made such a huge casting coup, then wasting her by not using her. Interestingly, right before Beth was hired, ABC announced they would no longer be airing soap promos in primetime and were stopping print/magazine advertisements.

  10. The Kim Zimmer troll thinks she is clever accusing any poster who praises Beth Ehlers, someone with millions of fans, of being Beth Ehlers. Yeah, like she would waste her time on an obscure site devoted to a dead TV genre. She has never had any interest in the internet or social media. She refused to allow any of her fans to start an official fan club for her. The Zimmer troll is so obvious. No matter how many names she uses or how many accounts, you know it's her. She uses the same exact words, terms, and phrases. She spreads the same long ago debunked lies.

  11. On 6/23/2020 at 2:33 PM, RavenWhitney said:

The woman who comes on here and other sites and calls Beth Ehlers nasty names is absolutely hideous and an old hag. I saw a picture of her years ago. She is Kim Zimmer's personal assistant. Apparently, she spends almost all of her time (presumably when she's not eating Zimmer's [!@#$%^&*]) going online and spreading lies about Beth Ehlers and attacking her looks and age. That is called projection. Beth Ehlers is still as gorgeous as ever. She never ages. She looks exactly the same as when she first joined Guiding Light. It's like everybody always said: Beth Ehlers is blessed with perfect bone structure. She also takes good care of her skin, as Laura Wright mentioned in an interview. Nobody who is honest, has good taste, and good eyesight would deny that Beth Ehlers is beautiful. Heck, the people who buy into the lies about her sleeping with her co-stars are being hypocrites. You can't imply that all of these guys want to make love to her and then say she's not beautiful, it doesn't work that way. Even funnier is seeing the Alternate Reality Bizarro World residing posters saying nice things about wildly unpopular, horse-faced Beth Chamberlain. You have no credibility.

  12. The person or persons here trashing Beth Ehlers know nothing about her. You have obviously never read one interview she ever gave. Her castmates were always praising her to the skies. Lindsey McKeon said Ehlers would always show up to work in a good mood, always smiling, and everyone was happy to see her. Tognoni said Ehlers had no ego. Even Zimmer cried in an interview one year after Ehlers left, saying that her departure was really hard on everyone and they missed her. She even said Goldin leaving was different because he wasn't there as long as Ehlers. The fact is that Ellen Wheeler was the reason the whole cast, not just Ehlers, was in a bad place those last couple years. Morale was low. They all felt that Wheeler was in over her head and the show was definitely headed for cancellation. There were articles where cast and crew were very critical of Wheeler. The reason Ehlers left was because Wheeler wanted her to go off contract. Beth had a mortgage to pay so that was a no go. AMC offered her a contract and a chance to stay in New York and not have to uproot her kids and move to Los Angeles.

  13. You are all (or one person with multiple accounts) full of crap. Beth Ehlers never burned any bridges at Guiding Light or All My Children. She was the most beloved and professional person there. Ehlers and her character Harley were the most popular actress and character on Guiding Light right up to the end. The person who caused the most trouble trouble on GL was Zimmer. She refused to take a small pay cut which led to many firings. Zimmer demanded crazy, non-mundane stories all the time, with her being front and center at all times. That is what drove millions of viewers away.

I liked Beth Ehlers as Taylor. The problem is she was never on. The soap magazines were trashing All My Children for not using her. Soap Opera Weekly had a great column where the columnist compared it to someone buying a beautiful piece of jewelry and putting it in a drawer and never taking it out to show off. Beth never said she was doing Shakespeare. She said Pratt expected her to do Shakespeare. She couldn't care less about Shakespeare. Martinez was not an actor. He said so in every interview he ever gave. Pratt refused to write for Martinez because he wasn't an actor. Pratt pressed Ehlers into the role of Martinez's acting teacher. Interestingly, Martinez beat out a disabled vet in a wheelchair who had acting experience. He was really good looking and had great chemistry with Ehlers. He told his local newspaper he was sad that he wasn't going to get to work with Ehlers. They went with Martinez because he was a little older. They made a huge mistake. They should've gone with the other guy.

  14. Kim Zimmer's book was a huge flop. It didn't even chart. Interesting how the only thing people mention about it is the blind item lie about Beth Ehlers clearly written by Zimmer's troll of a personal assistant. Literally every attack on Beth Ehlers on the internet comes from the same person, Zimmer's personal assistant. She has a long history of going online and smearing and slandering actresses she feels were a threat to her boss. Whether it was Michelle Forbes or Cynthia Watros or Laura Wright or Crystal Chappell or Beth Ehlers. Zimmer's assistant uses multiple accounts with different identities to spread her lies in order to appear as people who "agree" with her. She apparently has no life and spends every day attacking Beth Ehlers online. She made up the ridiculous Bogue story, the Watros story, and the Derwin story. There was no "fling" with Watros. Ehlers was not married when she started dating Derwin. Ehlers got divorced in the summer of 1991 and didn't start dating Derwin until Spring 1992. Derwin was obsessed with Ehlers. He pursued her heavily. She kept rejecting him, not wanting to date an actor. They broke up two years later in the Spring of 1994. Derwin did not want to get married and have children as Ehlers had wanted. Funny thing about the blind item: Zimmer never met Derwin or Ehlers' first husband. Zimmer had left GL by then (June of 1990). Zimmer returned to GL in late 1995.

  15. Rob Bogue and Mandy Bruno started having an affair immediately after he joined the show. Look up the timeline. Bruno was living with a few other actresses (including Alexandra Chando) and announced she was engaged. She moved in with her boyfriend. Shortly after, she announced the engagement was off. This is when she was having the affair with Bogue. A blind item in SOD talked about how despite Bogue having two of the hottest leading ladies (Ehlers and Tognoni), he only had eyes for another, much younger than him, actress (Bruno). There was no affair between Bogue and Ehlers. Ehlers marriage was on the rocks for years before Bogue joined the show. She stopped wearing her wedding ring in 2003/2004 and started wearing it again in 2005. Ehlers and her husband went to Italy in the summer of 2005 as a last ditch effort to save the marriage. It didn't work. They got divorced right after they returned home. Almost all of Bogue's scenes then were with Tognoni. They were on virtually every day and virtually all of their scenes were in bed. Bogue and Tognoni also spent every weekend going around the country doing personal appearances. Bogue had a wife and two kids, including a newborn, in Pennsylvania. Bogue had an apartment in Manhattan, as did Bruno and Tognoni.
