Besides "Verbotene Liebe" ("Forbidden Love") and "Marienhof" (1992-2011), there are three other daytime soaps in Germany. Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten (Good Times, Bad Times) was launched in May 1992. Set in Berlin, the show originally revolved around a circle of friends who had to find their way in life after dropping out of high school before graduation. During the first months, ratings were extremely poor. After a complete make-over, a serial killer storyline and several cast changes, the show finally managed to skyrocket. These days GZSZ is the most watched series in Germany, attracting more than 3 million viewers every day. The most-watched episode to date was #2500 in June 2002, which was seen by 6.7 million people. The show is based on the Australian soap "The Restless Years". There's also a Dutch adaption called "Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden" which has been on the air since 1990. During their first year of production, both GZSZ and GTST followed the scripts of "The Restless Years" and thus had the same sets of characters. Originally, Sandra Keller was supposed to star as her GZSZ character Tina Zimmermann, but they had to recast the character with Ulrike Frank because Ms. Keller suddenly left the project. Ulrike Frank appeared in 6 episodes of GZSZ to help the launch of GST. I bought the DVD of the first twelve episodes and have watched four episodes so far. I don't know why, but to me Sunset Beach is a comedy because I can't stop laughing during most of the scenes. It's just so silly and over the top. Most of the characters come across as totally dumb and clichéd. And why do the viewers learn in the very first episode that "S.B." is Ben Evans? Where is the suspense, when we know beforehand that Meg is totally on the wrong track when she believes that Casey is "S.B."? Instead, it just gives us the impression that Meg is simply stupid. Just because Casey happens to have a computer, Meg thinks he's "S.B.". Despite this, I like some of the characters, for example Casey, Rae, Annie, Paula, Ricardo and Michael. I couldn't stand Adrienne Frantz on B&B and on SuBe she totally ruins any scene she's in. The opening sequences deserves 10 stars because for me it's the best opening an American daytime drama ever had.

My favourite characters were Jane, Michael, Sydney, Kimberly, Jake, Alison, Brooke, Taylor, Megan and Lexie. I couldn't stand Coop, Jennifer and Rhonda. I didn't care much about the others, especially Amanda. I never understood why she was so popular because I found her very dull, especially in the later seasons when she suddenly became the victim.

Does anyone remember Robyn? She was quite successful in the 90s, with "Show Me Love" or "Do You Know (What It Takes)". This is her 2007 comeback single "With Every Heartbeat". It has already been #1 in the UK and #18 in her home country Sweden.
