In the daytime, The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune were time slot rivals and I'm pretty sure The Price is Right was killing Wheel of Fortune.

Not really. Wheel often beat the first half-hour of Price. Go look at some of the whole ratings that @JAS0N47 posted earlier in this thread. BTW, what happened to the sweeps posts? I've seen 2.

Fascinating to me that the Tom Kennedy Price Is Right was deemed a flop, but had excellent ratings considering only having 67% coverage. I feel like, with a good push to individual markets, it really could have taken off as a strong competitor to the WOF/J! juggernaut.

Problem for nighttime TPIR was that most affiliates aired it against Wheel or J!, expecting it to vie for the top of the rankings and knock Wheel and/or J! off its perch, which it didn't come close. Subsequently, most affiliates banished it after the new year.

  3. Looking at these numbers makes it even more confounding that NBC decided it was a good idea to cancel Blockbusters, Battlestars, and Password Plus (which was doing better numbers than The Doctors) to save Texas. I get the Search For Tomorrow move, but it just equaled bad decisions by NBC.

Thanks for the compliments! It's been a fun journey!!

I am wrapping up the 1992 books in the next few days, so I should have time this week to help out with any specific 1980's requests this week. If there's a certain week from the 1980's or early 1990's that you would like the demos of a show posted, please let me know.

I was interested in the non-soaps sweeps period lists you were posting, if you could continue those. Thank you in advance!

As a reminder, the weekly charts will be coming over the course of the next few months, so (to everyone) please try to limit ratings questions to non-soaps, mainly if you have questions about other daytime shows or Saturday morning shows from 1980-1987.

Thought of another. Week ending 2/1/80, the last week of Beat The Clock on CBS, as well as Whew!

I don't know The Biskitts, but they lost the time slot to the two more long-running cartoons, Scooby Doo and Flintstones.

    12/10/83:

    8-830AM:
    Best of Scooby Doo...ABC...4.0/22
    Flintstone Funnies...NBC...3.6/24
    Biskitts...CBS...3.0/20

The Biskitts was CBS's attempt at a Smurfs clone involving puppies/dogs. It was removed in January, and I'd say losing to 2 shows composed of reruns didn't help its cause.

Your wish is my command. The Biskitts, Saturday December 10, 1983.

  8. Sale would improve over time, eventually knocking out Child's Play. When you get a chance @JAS0N47, can you post the week of June 26-30, 1984? Thank you.

By 1982/1983 AW had completely imploded in the ratings. In the 4's and ranking #10 among the soaps.

I always loved sale of the century. Too bad the ratings were so low.

    ATWT doing well.

    11/18/85-11/22/85:

    Press Your Luck...3.7/15

Press (1030AM) only had 81 percent clearance, airing on 168 CBS affiliates that week.

The show it lead into, however, Price Is Right 1 (11AM) had 99 percent clearance, airing on 208 affiliates. So, 40 CBS affiliates chose not to air Press.

I knew Press and (to a certain extent) Pyramid struggled with clearances for their runs. And this all but confirms the drop off PYL experienced in the 2nd half of 1985. Thanks again @JAS0N47

No big change from the weeks before:

    5/28/84-6/1/84...5.4/22
    6/4/84-6/8/84...5.0/21
    6/11/84-6/15/84...5.2/21

I saw those episodes on GSN. That's the guy who memorized the PYL board and knew exactly when to hit the button!

Appreciate the info @JAS0N47. One more for ya! Same show, week of 11/18-22/85.

If anyone has a question about ratings for a specific game show or Saturday morning cartoon, just ask. I will post when I can. Just list the title and the week you want me to check from 1980-1987.

Got a game show. Press Your Luck for the week of June 11-15, 1984. The 2nd Michael Larson episode aired that Monday when he won $110,237.
