  1. Thank you for confirming that. Was it Maeve's choice to leave EON second time around? If she had stayed, and if the show had still hired Lori Loughlin as Jody Travis, I bet she would have been a long-lost daughter of Nicole's rather than her younger half-sister.

Yes. She signed two separate one-year contracts. The show would have loved to keep Maeve around, but I think she still wanted to try her luck in other areas.

  2. I could understand if it was about residuals or something... but still, that's not right.

And even so, a residual check from this show would probably be for 23 cents or something. Why bother?

I hope this is resolved soon. I'd love to see some vintage Doctors. Now I wish someone would find out CBS didn't wipe Edge of Night...

  3. What a find!! I hope whoever posted this (and what is the YT poster's name?) continues to upload episodes.

Jim Pritchett was an underrated actor. There are so many fantastic performances in this show. Makes up for the rather dull looking sets, but soaps didn't always have those extravagant sets back then. They spent more on acting...

We need to encourage more of this YT posting. I live in West Michigan and even though RetroTV is offered on our cable, it is only a handful of programs and The Doctors isn't one of them. :(

  4. Wanted to post this separately... speaking of former SB actresses, one of my favorites (Stacy Edwards) is teaching acting in Hollywood! The place she's involved with is called Keep it Real Acting. Jeff Kober (I want to say that's his name), who used to be on China Beach, also teaches there.

I hope this means Stacy hasn't transitioned full-time to being an acting coach. She'd be damn good as a regular on a TV series if someone would take a chance.

  5. Hey Amy: Got a few things here, the first couple being updates on previous posts.

The actor playing Lemory... I remember the character, but the IMDB does not list Ernie Hudson playing this role. (That doesn't mean anything... it's possible they don't have a record of his being on there.)

Sad to hear about Justin. Always sad to hear when a former SB actor passes away. First Dane earlier this year and now this. Never saw Justin in anything after SB, but it sounds like he wasn't the happiest person. :(

  6. Lizzie had definitely been through a lot before that, shooting Carl, being kidnapped twice, surviving leukemia, blackmailing Alan(that was Hirschlag) so I guess it did make some sense.

Personally I think the best Marah, Shayne ,and Marina were Laura Bell Bundy, Jeff Branson, and Aubrey Dollar respectively.

Yes to all three, and especially to Aubrey. Always been a big fan of hers dating back to her GL days. She held her own in scenes with the likes of Robert Newman and Kim Zimmer, and I thought she could go someplace.

Was very sad to see her leave but happy to see she's had success. She does a lot of off, off Broadway theater but has had prime time luck (I still wonder if Women's Murder Club would be on the air yet if the writers strike hadn't happened). She's in the cast of David Shore's Battle Creek at midseason.

When I saw Aubrey's replacement, Kit Paquin, I went "Ugggggggh". Didn't last long. Then Mandy Bruno came on and I thought she'd do all right.

Laura Bell Bundy got shafted by the producers at the time. Wasn't there a weight issue? I know Kim was very upset at how she got treated. Of course Laura had the last laugh because she went on to be pretty successful in the theater...

Jeff Branson made a fantastic Shayne. He and Mandy Bruno had pretty good chemistry...

  7. I really liked Amy and Brick together... the writing was quite shaky in the first year of the show but you could tell Kerry and Richard had a pretty easygoing chemistry... I thought the "Brick is Channing" twist was quite good and it was believable (Minx didn't want her grandson raised as a Capwell). I was sad to see Amy get killed off but understood Kerry wanted to leave the show...

Those first few years of SB were so entertaining. The entire show was for the most part. I still miss it to this day.

  8. I mentioned this earlier in the thread but I'll repeat the comments for those late to the party... I loved Margaret's two years writing AW in the 1980s. Under Sam Hall in 1985-86 AW was really bad, not to mention boring... Margaret restored a lot of the life the show had and really wrote some quality stuff.

I know some people didn't care for the change in focus and the loss of characters like Larry, Clarice, Liz, etc... and I wasn't entirely happy to see them go, since they were a link to the golden age of the 1970s... but this show needed something.

I thought the Sin Stalker was a decent story...

  9. Wow. I had no idea Jane Sibbett didn't get along with Richard Eden. Of course, I don't know why they killed off Amy in the first place, because Brick's story seemed to vanish just after the "Brick is Channing" reveal.

I loved both Linda and Robin as Gina, but MEB's decision to fire Linda for "unprofessional behavior" sounded like pure BS. You want to kill the actress, for God's sake?

  10. Good news for fans of Aubrey Dollar (Marina): CBS has a show called BATTLE CREEK, about detectives cleaning up crime on the streets of Battle Creek. I live about an hour and change northwest of the real Battle Creek, so the premise might be a bit overdone... Aubrey is playing an office manager, presumably at the police station.

It's straight to series, meaning no sweating about a pilot.

Enjoying all the Holly talk, by the way. What a criminally underused character and actress.

  11. That story was perhaps the best executed story from start to finish SB ever did. Sherilyn made such a creepy villainess, Cain was a believable foil for Cruz/Eden... never. ever understood why they let Sherilyn go after about six months.

Of course, this is when they were getting rid of great characters and actors left and right. Scott Jaeck was a great presence on SB, but it seemed like they didn't know what to do with Cain once Eden and Cruz were married.

  12. It's probably a lot like Edge's closing credits. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Ann Flood and Forrest Compton got top billing and Mandel Kramer was third, even though he'd been on the show longer.

As for Michael Malone, I loved his work... but I also have no doubt NBC interfered big time. That was when the network was trying very hard to kill AW and succeeded. Sons of b*****s.

  13. The funny thing about the 1975 ABC clip is they essentially redid that entire scene with Geraldine discovering Noel and Tracy. If you ever saw the CBS version (which is online, I believe) it's a little more low-key but just as dramatic.

I enjoy the ABC version, because Lois gets to deliver snarling lines over the top. And the best thing is it works. This is how good soaps can be.

  14. Speaking of favorite SB actresses... Stacy Edwards on Castle Monday night playing an attorney. I think that's three times now she's played one. (Not that I'm counting... lol) I wish some show would take a chance on her as a regular.

Kyle Secor (Brian) was also in the same show. Mini-soap reunion!!

  15. I thought the twist of Robert getting killed instead of Quinn was great because it reminded me of something Edge might have done... but as long-term story potential it stunk. Robert could have been a fearsome business villain of CC's for years and a constant thorn in Cruz and Eden's side... the Quinn character wasn't as interesting as Robert for the long run.

  16. I LOVED the Robert/Quinn story. I was disappointed they shipped Roscoe off so quickly in the fall of 1991 after a couple years. Roscoe worked so well with A, Marcy and Carrington, you're right.

The DiNapolis, Greg and Megan were symbolic of something I mentioned on this board before about SB's tendency to switch out supporting characters at a dizzying pace. They were all introduced in the late spring of 1989, I believe, and weren't they all gone by the start of 1990?
