CORY CONFRONTS RACHEL

CORY MANSION

Rachel is in her bedroom on the phone, with an open suitcase on her bed.

Rachel: Yes that means I’m going.

Cory walks up to the bedroom unseen by Rachel.

Rachel: If you see Cory and Elizabeth, don’t tell them about Carl. I need to see it for myself first. (beat) Thank you Frankie.

Rachel hangs up and Cory flashes back to hearing Frankie tell Rachel that Carl is alive. Cory then knocks on the door.

Cory: Hi mom.

Rachel (startled): Cory how long have you been standing there?

Cory: Not long. Going on a trip?

Rachel: Yes I have to leave town for a few days.

Cory: Where are you going?

Amanda is holding an envelope, and knocks on the door. After looking around, someone opens the door.

Amanda: May I come in?

CASS’S HOUSE

Charlie opens the door and sees Kirkland with a bouquet of flowers.

CAMERA PAN ON KIRKLAND…SLOW FADE TO THEME SONG

Charlie: Kirkland…what are you doing?

Kirkland: May I come in?

Charlie (smiling): Sure. Who are those for?

Kirkland: Who do you think they’re for?

Charlie: Well…I know they’re not for my dad. Lindsay maybe?

Kirkland: I don’t owe Lindsay an apology.

Charlie (sighing and smiling): You didn’t have to do this Kirkland.

Kirkland: I did. I ruined our date at Tops, and I wanted to apologize.

Charlie: Let me go put these in water.

Kirkland: Wait.

Kirkland puts down the flowers and pulls Charlie into a kiss, and Charlie responds.

Amanda talks to someone….

Amanda: I got this when I got back from St. Croix. I was surprised, but this is our opportunity.

The person she’s talking to is Iris.

Iris: Your mother should never have sold daddy’s company to Reginald Love.

Amanda: Well we can contest the sale.

Iris: And what happens to Cory Publishing in the meantime?

Amanda: I’m not sure, but we have to take this chance Iris. We don’t see eye to eye, but we both agree that my mother made a mistake…

Iris: Among others. Why should I trust you?

Amanda: Because you and I also know how hard daddy worked in building his company, and I’m not gonna let my mother sell it off to the highest bidder.

Iris: Amen to that. What do you plan on doing?

Amanda (giving Iris the papers): I need your backing. We have to stand united if we’re gonna get Cory Publishing to stay in the family.

Iris flashes back to when Reginald told Iris not to worry about Cory Publishing.

Iris: These look legit.

Amanda: So are you with me?

Iris: Yes.

Amanda: I hate going against my mother, but I can’t let daddy’s company get sold without a fight.

Cory confronts Rachel, as she continues packing, and does not face her son.

Rachel: To New York. Taking care of some business with Cory Publishing.

Cory: Really? I thought you sold it.

Rachel: The sale isn’t complete yet.

Cory: Oh. You know I was…thinking about dad.

Rachel: Is that right?

Cory: I really miss him. I wish he was…still alive.

Rachel: I do, too honey.

Rachel walks to the closet and grabs a linen dress.

Cory: Must be hot in New York.

Rachel: Why do you say that?

Cory: That’s your summer dress.

Rachel: It gets hot there during the summer.

Cory: Do people survive brain tumors?

Rachel: I don’t know all the percentages darling.

Cory: It could…subside if they got the right medical attention.

Rachel: Is there something you’re getting at?

Cory: You can drop the act mom.

Rachel: What are you talking about?

Cory: I heard you and my sister talking.

Rachel: I haven’t spoken to Elizabeth.

Cory: You and I both know that I’m not talking about Lizzie.

Rachel stops packing and turns around to face Cory.

Rachel: You heard nothing.

Cory: I heard everything. Dad’s alive isn’t he, and my sister Frankie is gonna take you to see him.
