CASS’S HOUSE

Cass, Charlie, and Lindsay are in the living room. Cass is at his desk reviewing files while Charlie and Lindsay greet Cass and sit on the couch.

Charlie: Hey Dad.

Lindsay: Hey Uncle Cass.

Cass: Girls.

Charlie: Don’t mind us. We’re just talking.

Cass: Keep it down I’m doing some work.

Lindsay: My mom has a home office. You should probably invest in one.

Cass: I am, but not right now.

Lindsay: She kept it under lock and key. I was never allowed in there.

Charlie: Well at least your mom was around, because mine wasn’t.

Cass: Charlie?

Charlie: It’s true dad. Mom didn’t want us.

Lindsay: Well my relationship with my mom definitely isn’t perfect.

Charlie: You know why don’t we go out to the Center and get an ice cream.

Cass: Careful. There’s gonna be another press conference down there. Lindsay can I talk to you for a second.

Lindsay: Hey what’s up?

Cass: Why don’t you tell me what’s going on between you and Stacey?

Paulina is dressed in a silver evening gown as she goes to answer the door.

Paulina: Kirkland.

Kirkland (walking in without shutting the door): Can I talk to you?

Paulina: Sure. Is everything alright?

Kirkland: You look great.

Paulina: Thank you. I’m going out to dinner with your dad.

Kirkland: That’s what I came to speak to you about. You’re making a big mistake. My father is going to hurt you.

People and press are walking about, and Rachel is preparing for her press conference backstage, and Reginald arrives.

Reginald: What do you want me to do?

Rachel: When I make the announcement, you just come up and join me at the podium.

Reginald: There are going to be a lot of people that are going to be furious with you.

Rachel: I don’t care. I’m doing what has to be done right now.

CAMERA PAN ON RACHEL….FADE TO THEME SONG

Paulina: What do you mean?

Kirkland: You were married to one of the most upstanding, honest guys I’ve ever known. My father is the polar opposite.

Paulina: I miss Joe.

Kirkland: Of course you do. Maybe you’re rebounding.

Paulina: I appreciate your concern Kirkland, but I’m a big girl and I can take care of myself.

Kirkland: If you think my father’s changed, he hasn’t. He’ll never change. He’s always gonna be up to something. He’s always gonna have his hands dirty.

Grant, dressed in a tuxedo, walks up to the open door.

Kirkland: You are too good for my father. He tried to hurt my mom, and I think he’s gonna do the same thing to you.

Grant: Paulina. I apologize. Kirkland I’d like to have a word with you outside.

Kirkland: What’s the matter dad? You can’t face the truth. You’re running for mayor, and that means you’re gonna be doing the same old dirty tricks and schemes that you used to do.

Grant grabs Kirkland escorts him outside.

Grant: I understand that you’re mad as hell, and you probably wish that I drop dead, but you don’t get to poison other people’s minds against me, especially not Paulina.

Kirkland: If she knew what was good for her, she’d get far away from you, before she becomes your latest casualty. Everything you love, you destroy, and if you’re falling in love with Paulina, then God help her.

CASS’S HOUSE

Lindsay: What do you mean?

Cass: You haven’t talked much about her. I notice your reactions every time we bring her up.

Lindsay: Why would you think something was wrong?

Cass: Listen I love you and my sister, and if there’s something wrong between the two of you I’d like to help if I can.

Lindsay: Mom and I are fine okay. I mean we’re just two people who just don’t see eye to eye on things.

Cass: So you must be stubborn like she is.

Lindsay: You could say that.

Cass: Go to the Center. Have fun with Charlie.

Lindsay: Thank you for understanding.

Cass: Of course.

Lindsay walks out of the door, and before Cass can close it behind her, a woman approaches the door, wearing a set of scrubs. The top has “Pinehaven Hospital” written on the left breast pocket, and Cass is shocked.

Cass: Nicole?

Nicole: I’m sorry Cass but I didn’t know where else to go. You’ve gotta help me save my son!

Rachel is at the podium. She makes eye contact with Amanda in the audience, and starts her speech…

Rachel: Thank you all for coming. I’m not gonna drag this out any further than it has to. As you know, I have previously announced that Cory Publishing is for sale, and now I’ve found a buyer. Introducing the new owner of Cory Publishing…Mr. Reginald Love.

Amanda runs up to the front.

Amanda: Mom have you lost your mind! Reginald Love! How dare you spit on my father’s grave!

Rachel: Amanda please don’t do this here.

Amanda: I’m doing this right here!

She grabs the mic…

Amanda: I will make sure that Cory Publishing STAYS in the family!
