    It's kind of funny to see all the shade thrown at Empire now. The truth is the show isn't really all that different this season than it was in S1. It's always been poorly paced and randomly focused it's just that last year it was new.   ITA The approach to this season reminds me of an addiction memoir I read a long time ago called, More. Now. Again. S2 of Empire is everything S1 was just more. More of Cookie's outrageous outfits, more of Lucious twirling his mustache, more "twists", more guest stars while story and character beats get dropped or just bulldozed over by the next twist.  More. Now. Again. 

     

    The good:

    Cookie's return to prison. IMO, the best moments are when we get reminded that Cookie is a person with feeling and not just a drag mannequin quip factory.   It didn't occur to me until now but you are on point!

     

    Lucious' breakdown. Even as over the top as it was with the rifle, it read as real to me. Empire means everything to Lucious and I could imagine JR Ewing or Blake Carrington having very similar breakdowns.

    The Camilla twist. (Hear me out. LOL!) That was a classic soapy moment and since I was unspoiled it genuinely surprised me. The problem is it didn't feel earned because I haven't given a damn about Camilla since the moment she walked away.

    Rhonda's fall. That was some cracktastic stunt and camera work. I don't think it was Anika. I suspect it's some other rando like maybe Prosecutor Push Up Bra from Lucious' trial. Why? Why not?

    The bad

    Hakeem. Am I supposed to believe that all these grown ass powerful women are sprung over this child?  :lol::lol:

    The business stuff. Normally I like business stories in soaps because they provide stakes but everything feels so tossed together. The Empire office feels like Hogwarts's where rooms, studios, board members all just appear when needed. 

    Everything around Jamal and his sexuality. I agree with the idea that now that he's out the show needs to move away from making everything about his sexuality. .....Bravo.......Frankly I'm really beginning to wonder what this show is trying to say. I'm all for fluidity but more and more it feels like plot point switch hitting. In two seasons we've had Tiana be with Hakeem and another woman with no follow up. Camila goes from Hakeem to Mimi. (I'm beginning to see a pattern here.) Lucious having a threeway with Mimi and now Jamal, the gayest gay who ever gayed decides to mix it up with Sky.

    I really liked Alicia's Skye (and their song)  I didn't realize she is so photogenic for me she owned the camera and I can believe that Jamal was caught up in their creativity ...music and found himself attracted to her, hit it but that was all it was (its clear to me he isn't bisexual) but he wants their friendship ....  I know a few gay men and I've heard stories that run the gambit...

    The drive by guest  stars doesn't bother me as much as some here...what gets me is if I get into their character they won't be back after a few scenes... I totally agree with there are too many...  I like Camilla for some reason; I can't explain it.  Her coming back w/MiMi was a big WTF.  When she was gone I thought that was it.

    You made really good points it made me reflect on S2 during my rewatch.

    I like Taraji anything she's in I'm all there. Also a Terrence Howard fan since Hustle and Flo but what is pullin me in is Cookie's relationship with Jamal. Thus far I'm liking several realtionships also between the brothers. But I'm into gritty urban (hood) fiction so shows like the Wire, Power, Empire is my cup of tea. I swore I'd never watch anything on the Fox channel because of faux news but Taraji made me break my vow.

    Haven't seen this week I screwed up on setting the recording...Grrr. And Jamal is definitely right the Black Community generally speaking is rough re: same sex relationships ... not just Twitter but Facebook too. Out of the two I'd say Twitter is the toughest.

    I have to say after coming in here that I really didn't zero in on the scripting I knew it was slow but I have been paying special attention... yes, he needs scriptwriters desperately I don't know if it has something to do with him being a playwright or what but my favorite storyline is Jeffrey's anyway. I think the show can be much better if Tyler gets assistance; I didn't realize it is a one man show.

    I guess he doesn't want to pay for help.

    Yes, WHAT is that about? Has he reverted to a 10 year old as a result of his accident?

    Something isn't right with him he seems different. And I was wondering what happened to the professor who was yelping and running with a knife stuck in his back...

    ANYWAY, I FLOVE Marcie and I FLOVE KB...Any hope she'll return?

    Looking at the photo it makes me realize how now with the SORASing I never got much

    of this over the years. They don't hang around this long anymore :(

    and today ended the balkan---another ridiculous character we heard about for MONTHS on end as this big bad villian who dragged Siobhan in but then never spoke or her again, who turns out to be married to suzanne which even guza admitted was not in the original plan. Who could have had access to hurt to get to brenda anytime for years. So lame. At least suzanne was a bad ass and slit his throat today. Balky was a lame ass villian like all the other lame ass villians on GH.

    Suzanne should show wussy sonny where it's at! Sonny can't even kill someone at point blank range!

    I totally agree I would have much rathered see Helena and Tracey go toe to toe maybe I missed it but her locking Tracy in a dungeon never came to a satisfying close for me...I actually waited for more of this to play out and can't remember how it concluded...I remember Luke coming to the rescue and this is how Tracey found out about her non-marriage but how did it leave the storyline (re: Tracey/Helena).

    That is such crap!! They could write for LC after all she is St. Jason's mother but the writers are @$$holes!!! JI, well the man is in his 80's as sad as I would be if he left the show, I can see why he would want to leave and enjoy retirement, he deserves it!

    GH won't write for the vets; they have spent over a decade dismantling the Qs

    I firmly believe Tracey wouldn't have story if it wouldn't be for Luke which is ridiculous.

    She has a granddaughter who just came to town she rarely has scenes with they will soon

    use her merely as a plot point for Brooklyn storyline this is just unreal...GH looks

    like one tree hill on some days. Frons doesn't like old people he as much as said

    so point blank.

    They distanced Jason from the Qs the only time Monica had time was to pimp and prop Jason and tell him what a great mobster he is

    because of Michael anyway. Rumor has it back in the gap, SBurton almost got fired because of his interaction with the Qs Stuart Damon stepped up big time

    and saved his job...however they fired SD via fax on Xmas eve so I guess Leslie did a tad better...it probably was like SD said they approached him

    recur or be fired.

    Huge Tracey Q / Jane Elliot fan and kinda old school so just wanted to give her a bump when I saw your thread here...

    I guess for Valentines Day there won't be many couples together I was depending on Tracey w/Luke but seems like she' fed up and kicked him to the curb for now

    who will be together for V-Day now?

    I guess its Carly and Jax , our secret lovers, and Loo-Loo and Who? Johnny or Logan???
