It's too bad GL didn't value the character of Hope enough to bring her back.
I put up Part 1 of my Cindy Pickett interview:

She was a real joy to talk with and remembers GL very fondly.

We're counting down Dynamic Duos and this rivalry was always fun.

teplin, it's Tom Eplin's birthday! And the anniversary of the day Jake raped Marley and was shot.

I warmed to Frankie after a while, too. I just loved the smart, fun and adventurous way Cass and Kathleen were written. I think sometimes it's a matter of when we started watching or how old we were or what we were going through at the time of a particular story that makes it stay special in our minds. I spoke with Alice Barrett recently but just about her latest play.
Interviewed Carrie Preston last week about her new movie (she directs), which stars Anne Heche and features Nick Gregory, who played two roles on AW included Frankie's killer.

Cass and Kathleen are my favorite soap couple. When she returned in 1991 the writers had changed and no matter what Cass did, even choosing Kathleen at one point, it always felt heavy-handed and biased toward Frankie to me. It was still one of the better soap triangles, but I never really felt Kathleen had a chance.

Just interviewed Cindy Pickett. Been wanting to do that for years. She's playing the mom in a new web series opposite Nic Coster. Despite all she's done since GL, still gets recognized as Jackie Marler.

I was just starting to warm up to Cali as Paulina when she was replaced. Paulina was too hard for me and was only softening when Jake woke up after being shot. I was a huge Judi Evans fan on GL (and then on DAYS) so I was okay with this change. I don't know if the character would have stuck around until the end if Judi wasn't playing her. It was a bit jarring though to get a new Paulina, new Vicky/Marley and new Grant in a short amount of time.

There's a Rituals promo in the middle of this clip, not sure if it's been posted yet.

I have some older Soap Opera Digests and TVGuide starting around 1989. How quickly do you need this kind of information?
Not urgent, but any info would be helpful.
Thanks to those who responded.

I'm working on an episode listing from 1979 foward and wondering if anyone remembers how CBS (ATWT/GL) handled Thanksgiving and Christmas pre-emptions from 1979 to 2009. In the more recent years, they always aired football. Was that always the case, or were there actual ATWT and GL episodes on Thanksgiving (and the day after) and Christmas at some point? Thanks!!

Gregg still looks great. Took Colleen to that show in May and we all went out after. I don't think they had seen each other since ATWT. He's a good singer.

This is not something to complain about, as long as the episodes were interesting that is.
Didn't have time to really watch them. Scanned through five months of episodes. I did get stuck in late Jan. 1980 though when Barbara was confessing to Tom she had a kind with some man a few years earlier. As soon as the Dobsons took over, Barbara went on some secret trip to donate blood. Hopefully one day will have time to actually just sit back and watch. In the time that seems like would have been Marlands, Lisa spent most of her time with Bob after the Willows and then Brad.

Well, I didn't see a single writing credit after Nov. 6, 1979 (Ellis) and Jan. 7, 1980 (Dobsons). Oh well. That was a few hours of my life spent.
Dobsons first day: Joyce shows up at Nancy's door.

Thanks. It didn't look like Suzanne from the side.
I know people said he wrote the Willows story for Lisa.
Supposedly, and Eileen has talked to me about that too, but well into it and haven't seen his name. But they aren't showing the credits very often at the end which doesn't help.

Those photos are such a tease.
Is that Lisa Denton Betsy?
I think it's Robert Dwyer and Suzanne Davidson. Most websites say Dwyer played Andy in 1980 but he really started in 1977. This photo is not too long after Betsy's friends talked her into a keg party and John Dixon stopped by to see Andy (she was babysitting) then ran to tell Kim. Betsy and Kim were dealing with Dan's death.
I've been trying to figure out the exact episodes Doug Marland wrote in 1979 but I haven't seen his name yet.

Was that on one of the DVDs? I can't remember.
That Tom looks like Lee Godart.
No. Just watching some random old stuff.

Colleen Zenk and Eileen Fulton (looking better than I've seen in years) along with Ben Jorgensen at the premiere of Soap Life.

Eileen looked great. Was so happy to see her. Her birthday is next week.
Lisa was almost Barbara's mother-in-law.

Interesting article. Thanks for posting it Carl.
I like the list of who the people writing in wanted to see back. Everyone came back except Hope and Mike (and obviously Maureen, though she did make appearances as a ghost/vision), which makes again point out what a mistake GL made by not bringing those two characters back.
I think Hope is the only one who didn't return in some way.

Yes. He also appeared in 1987 during the "Lily runs away" to Colorado or Arizona or wherethefuckever with Dusty after she learned the truth about her parentage. He played the owner (Logan) of the cafe where Lily waitressed. His wife Grace was played by Kelly Bishop.
He also wrote for the show and his wife was long time music coordinator Jill Diamond.
Wyoming! I didn't remember that either until we made that Lily and Holden DVD. I wanted to use a diner episode but they all had music playing the background that couldn't be scrubbed.
Ran into Jill at the Gregg Marx cabaret in May.

Almost a week of wedded bliss. Thanks for all the well wishes.
I asked about the Netherlands streaming and apparently the site was hacked pretty badly and they are working on getting it back up and running.

I'm married! And how does this apply to ATWT? Colleen Zenk officiated our wedding. She went through the process of becoming an ordained minister so she could perform our ceremony. And to make it completely soapy, we won a trip to Southfork in Dallas as our honeymoon.
Shared some photos here:

Btw...Have you ever thought of interviewing Gregg Marx, Roger??
Maybe someday. He was here in NYC back in May and we went out for drinks after his cabaret show.

Floved the free episode. Wish it was included in the dvd set. Gawd....did I have a crush on Greg Marx and Breck Jamison who played Jay...mmmmmm....great to see him on the episode. So many great vets on that one show. How I missed those days on ATWT at the end. I wish the set would have been a 20 set. I hadnt forgotten what that whole mess with Lisa was and that actor Cyer I think is his name who had a gun to Lisa at the party. And Lyndsay Frost...love me some her.....I love how they tried to make her look like Meg Ryan with the short hair. I prefered her with her long hair later in the years. I see SBH was HW of the show. ATWT had some great years in the 80s that I loved even before Marland came in.
We wouldn't have been able to include the Bob and Kim singing to each other scene and I didn't want to cut that out so I decided to make that one the free episode.

Margo, Craig and Cricket were supposedly Bart and Lyla's kids. It wasn't until Lyla was forced to confess the truth on the witness stand was it revealed that Margo was John's kid.
