  1. Zimmer also says that Wheeler dropped Maureen Garrett from contract to recurring and Garrett left. Didn't John Conboy drop Garrett to recurring, along with Beth Chamberlain and Liz Keifer? I remember folks on the message boards were concerned that Blake was going to be killed off during that horrible serial killer storyline.

  2. I haven't read the book in its entirety yet but saw numerous factual errors. She said that it was in 2008 that Wheeler wanted to rename the show "The New Guiding Light" and set back the clock. More details on what that meant would have been nice. She said that Wheeler introduced a new show opening to replace the anniversary open. And then goes on to say that Wheeler succeeded in keeping the new open, which was the hairy arms. The hairy arms was the anniversary open. The open that replaced it in 2008 was the one with the Kati Mac theme song.

She also says that Marj Dusay chose to leave the show when she was placed on recurring. Huh? That is hardly true.

  3. Lisa Brown left Guiding Light around April 1985, a good six months before Marland took over as head writer of World Turns. I believe Marland was still at Loving at that time, so I'm not so sure about the mag's claim that Marland had created the ATWT role for her while she was still on Light. Also, Nola gave birth to AJ in May. Brown was back on screen in late June when the show introduced the Jonathan Brooks character. The cottage mystery was only about a month old so the show could have integrated Nola into that plot.

  4. DePriest was the one who introduced Jason Frame. It was toward the end of her tenure as head writer. Soap Opera Digest reported that Jason was slated to have two teenage daughters but they never materialized on screen.

Anyone know about Linda Elstad's involvement with AW? Soap Opera Digest reported that Elstad was going to be head writer in early 1984 but that never happened (Elstad was one of the writers in 1984). Elstad previewed in SOD a storyline for Donna Love, who was going to challenge the status quo by joining a men's club.

  5. Isn't the blonde in the scene with Rick Beth Raines, as played by Lisa Loughridge?

MOL was so cute back then..always wanted Rick and not Phillip back then..but we know who aged better. Weird that the focus on this promo was Rick's drug habit and Roxie finding him hugging that boring chick..it all took place during Bert's memorial service so you would think they would promote that. Also interesting that the Bauer kitchen switched positions and the door that Roxie walks in would now lead to the patio ( I cant believe I know that....)

It was too bad that Hutchison only had chemistry with Robert Newman...their one scene together I thought Seb was going to fall to his knees and they had Josh almost flirting with him!

  6. I don't recall Sunny being with Quinn but may be forgetting something. I remember Avila Mayer and Braxton totally destroyed Sunny in 1985 when Hogan and Liza hooked up. I was very disappointed that the show abandoned Sunny and Hogan in favor of Hogan and Liza. Hogan and Liza totally fell apart when Gideon was cast. Quinn was linked with Wendy, Sarah, and then Evie before the show teamed him up with Kat at the end of the show.

  7. Actually, if memory serves me well, and I may be wrong, Sheri Anderson was briefly head writer in early 1988 after Margaret DePriest was axed. Anderson lasted just a few months and it was then that Lemay was hired as head writer. But then the writers' strike hit and Swajeski wrote AW during the strike. Lemay returned as head writer after the strike but only lasted a few months when he was booted in favor of Swajeski. Actually, the following article, from January 1988, confirms Lemay was hired early in the year.

On a side note, this article states that Thom Racina and Sheri Anderson were married. I never heard that before. Anyone know if that's true? Why, just the year before, Anderson and Joe Manetta, who were married, were head writing Guiding Light.

I guess Lemay is remembering things wrong then.

  8. Sorry, but the strike happened earlier in the year -- from March to August 1988.

Incorrect. The strike happened after Lemay was brought on, and Swajeski wrote during it. When the strike was over, they kept Swajeski and fired Lemay.

  9. Actually, the writers' strike happened earlier in 1988 before Lemay returned as head writer in September. It is widely known that Swajeski served as head writer during the strike and she eventually replaced Lemay in November. And it is very possible that the stories that were happening in spring 1989 were Lemay's ideas since head writers then often wrote one- or two-year bibles for their soaps.

  10. Not sure about the piano reference, but Paula Denning played the harpsichord. She was often heard playing the harpsichord before Julie Adams was cast.

Gillian was on briefly in 1982...just a few months. Kelly Palzis (now Preston, John Travlota's wife) played Gillian.
