Whatever happened with Victoria? I missed some episodes between when everyone found out that Chip was Cruz’s son instead of Mason. How did things change with Chip’s custody to the point where Cruz and Eden became his primary caregivers?

Oh the other thing I recall with Lane is that he wanted Mary to stay as his true love and to be more unsure of Julia. We saw that to an extent with the constant push/pull and aggressively pursuing her when they weren’t together but being more commitment phobic once she was all in. I even remember someone asking him about GT’s Mason in an interview and said he liked the performance but he wouldn’t have played Mason so hopelessly in love with Julia with GT did. To be fair, I think he’s subsequently softened his stance on that. I’m not sure how others feel about that pairing but I think they needed Mason to be obsessively in love Julia to remain viable. It was toxic enough for Julia to stay with him without adding in Mason’s ambivalence or feeling caged in by her.

The only thing I recall him wanting for Mason was conspiring against CC and acting shady. I can understand not wanting your character to become boring but that side of him got old fast and I hated when they resurrected it when the Dobsons returned in the 90s.

I haven’t watched GH in a really long time but I recall them ironically giving NLG a Mason/Julia-lite pairing right after Lane was let go from the show. Feuding lawyers constantly bickering and facing off against each other.

I can’t believe they were planning on having Augusta fall for the man who raped Julia. I’m glad Louise Sorel refused to play that story but sorry if that was in fact the reason she was written off. Julia and Augusta had their prickly moments but no way would Augusta not believe Julia or do that. To make matters worse, Augusta was the only character who knew Julia and questioned whether it really happened. Everyone else believed Julia, even people like Gina who didn’t like her. It was just gross all around.

Lol are you watching that for the first time? I’ve always had questions about that SL but don’t want to spoil it.

Oh I didn’t remotely like or root for Cassandra. Just meant that Mason’s motivations didn’t make sense in that story. Plotting against Cassandra would have worked for me too but I don’t think they were going for that either. I think they were just very intent on writing Mason as a cartoon villain that year without providing a real explanation why he was alienating everyone. Then they walked back on it without stating what caused the change and he suddenly won Julia back and was getting along with the other Capwells.

I wouldn’t say I hated the story. I liked the 2nd generation of the Lockridge/Capwell feud in theory but they lost me because they said outright Mason never loved Cassandra. If he did, his scheming would have made more sense. Mason allowed Cassandra to believe she was in love with her nephew just to spite Warren and only told her the truth once he had a real chance of getting Julia back.

There were some stories I enjoyed in the 90s. It was only the final year where I struggle to come up with something with the exception of Mason and Julia battling for the judgeship and trying to have another kid. I liked everything involving Robert and Quinn in the 90s. Flame and Angela were good additions to the canvas as well. Refocusing on the Lockridges.

Brandon was gone most of the last year of the show and rumors they were planning on SORASing him but the show was cancelled before then. I don’t know how old but I could see them wanting to age him a few years because they had that whole college crew going on during that time whereas he was around 14 in 92 and there was no one his age to interact with.

Perhaps I misunderstood what I heard but I thought Julia becoming pregnant was intended to be the spoiler for Mason/Victoria, not Julia herself. I assumed that the original plan was for Mason/Victoria’s marriage to become real and then Victoria is thrown for a loop with the news that Mason is having a kid with someone else or he wants to hide it, etc. Even when the actual story played out, he didn’t want Victoria to know the truth until she figured it out for herself. I can’t recall the reason behind that

I recall hearing that Mason/Julia weren’t supposed to be a pairing and the baby contract was actually just supposed to be that. Lane Davies more or less confirmed it in an interview where he said they only happened because he and Nancy were bored with their current storylines and played up their scenes together. Does anyone know when they made that decision to pair them together? The overall storyline leading to Samantha’s conception scream romance. Why did they decide to actually have sex and bond rather than artificial insemination? Mason’s scenes with Victoria during this time do show him starting to fall for her but things changed pretty quickly. He became very aloof once they actually got married and worse so once he found out Julia was pregnant. I wasn’t much of a fan of Victoria when I originally watched. She suffered by being a spoiler for Cruz/Eden and then ran into some bad luck once Mason/Julia gained traction. However, Mason was a pretty terrible husband to her. He was absent, dismissed her work, emotionally and later physically cheated on her with Julia while stringing her along in the process.

Augusta admitted to having an affair with CC back then to Mason I believe so they were planning on making Warren their son. However by the time Warren found out Lionel wasn’t his father, Augusta was long gone which took the bite out of that story and Warren never looked into who his real father was after Mason told him he didn’t know. Warren’s antagonism towards Lionel, which was centered around the fact that he’s known the truth all this time, didn’t last that long. I think they made up after Lionel almost died the time that Cassie tried to poison Angela and got Lionel by mistake.

IA, GT’s Mason doing a heel turn never quite worked for me. It just came out of nowhere. I also recall other characters, especially CC, putting too much emphasis on it mainly happening because Julia wouldn’t take him back.

Mary being so heavily tied to Mason might have been a factor. Had they re-signed her, they were faced with finding something else for her to do for a few months since Lane took the summers off. I saw how his subsequent breaks stalled stories with Tori and Julia and both of those characters had more going on than Mary did.

What was the reception to Katrina back then? I don’t remember her very much but I’m in the middle of a rewatch and she’s prominent. She’s the classic girl who comes to town and everyone loves her but I can’t get into her character because of Dash. I just finished an episode where she blindsighted Julia into having dinner with Dash because she’s convinced if Julia forgives him for the rape, the Capwells will finally accept him. Julia is a lot more graceful about that interaction than I would have been.

Am I the only one who found Warren and BJ gross? I can’t believe they used their wedding as the series finale. There was so much ick there. She came to town impersonating a teenage boy and bonded with Warren who took her in because she was homeless and living in a tunnel. Then she was a college freshmen and he was her professor/mentor. They added the backstory of BJ being sexually abused when she was younger by her parent’s friend and made Cruz, Warren’s close friend, her biological father. All of this was on top of the fact that they had no discernible chemistry while Warren had loads with Angela and Cassandra.

It probably wasn’t intentional but Julia and Eden always came off like a secondary friendship to me. I’m not sure if they have been friends if not for Cruz and later Mason. Julia’s mostly had close male friends which is ironic considering her characterization.

I think it was Michael. That was the only one I recall that was mutual. They timed it so he wasn’t a real option by not having him leave the priesthood until Mason/Julia were back together and solid but they played it like she had feelings for him but didn’t want to blow up his life. The only other longer one was that judge David who was married to Angela but it always came off as one-sided and he was moved out of her sphere as soon as Mason and Julia reunited.

I’m in the middle of a rewatch because I missed a lot of episodes in my initial viewing. One thing I’ve noticed is they never really tried to give Julia an alternate love interest once she was put into Mason’s sphere. They’d throw her guys she’d have heavy screentime with but either nothing would play out, she would shut them down after kiss because she was still in love with Mason, or it was a doomed ONS. Compared to Mason who had the marriage to Victoria, engagement to Cassie, relationship with Gina (as Sonny), and affair with Sasha.
