  1. Steffy did the right thing because she cares about Douglas and her Mom and Dad.  Taylor did what she did(didn't do) because of her selfishness.  So far, I have yet to see her concern that her son would go so far as commit a criminal act to get his way.  Why isn't she more concerned about his mental health?

Btw, Matt was so good on Bold Live.  He is a nice man and I love his acting, just don't like Thomas very much. Too bad his doggie was out.

  2. Yes that is true.  I think KKL had an accident riding a horse.  They worked it into the story about Brooke revealing to Ridge that she was pregnant and Ridge not being happy about it.  Brooke left the restaurant and had a car accident I believe and was missing for a bit.  When she showed up she had the black eye.

    That is my recollection.

  3. Eric and Brooke's apartment in L.A. was so beautiful.  It was a bit reminiscent of the Forrester Mansion with the columns and the great balcony overlooking the city.  Frankly I have not seen any set that looks like that one since.  Thorne and Macy's apartment was more generic so it could be transformed easily. Also missing is Thorne's beach house.  It was quite different from Taylor's, now Wyatt's house. Bill Spencer's penthouse was great too.

James's apartment always reminded me of his and Taylor's offices.  LOL

What I really miss are the Ocean Club set and Cate Russe set.  The elegant dining was so conducive to romantic stories.  I see very little romance these days, just a lot of wham bam of the blue stuff.

I don’t think they have sexual chemistry

It is my understanding that sexual chemistry is mostly in the eye of the beholder when it comes to acting.  Whatever kind of chemistry IB and KKL, had I liked it.  Now when it comes to lack of chemistry KKL and TK have zero. And generally I find KKL has it with most other actors, male and female, although not necessarily sexual chemistry.  I used to think TK had it with Eva LaRue on AMC but other than her I have missed it.  But again, it is the way I see him perhaps.  Many people thought he and Alicia Minshew had tons of chemistry but I thought it was all on her part.

  5. Ian Buchanan was almost impossibly handsome back then.  His accent didn't hurt either.  I was actually quite taken with his relationship with Brooke.  He took note of the past, was cautious in getting close to her and brought out a light and gentle part of Brooke.  Even though I found the beach wedding glorious and loved the honeymoon, for the most part, I was sad that James had to take a backseat to Ridge.  To me, James was a much better match for Brooke than Ridge could ever be.  But the show has constantly not allowed Brooke to ever get past her feelings for Ridge, no matter how horribly he treats her-point in fact, 2005 when once again back from the dead Taylor appears, Ridge is glued to the hypocrite, thanks to Mommy.  It was horrendous.  Poor RJ was just left behind for two witches who didn't care a thing about him.  And Ridge, what a dope.

The friendship between Stephanie and James was nice.  She started out very suspicious of him and was rightfully angry that he and Taylor cheated on Ridge but their alliance in dealing with Sheila bonded them.  I miss both actors.

  6. I'm with you Finrod, replacements are not pleasing to me generally.  Clayton Norcross was a beautiful Thorne but I found his Thorne weak and could never see him driving story.  JT was not my cup of tea at all.  Frankly, I got so sick of all the singing.  I'm a musical person but I don't watch soaps to see community theater.  A little music is okay but BE and JT sang constantly.  Even today in re-watching classic episodes I ff the singing.

Winsor Harmon was a favorite of mine.  I still miss him and Thorne.  It was sad that Bell killed off all of his immediate family.  I found it particularly cruel that Thorne lost Ali to that bully Steffy.  Ali had problems but killing her off felt like a stunt to do an "aha" on the audience.  WH's recast was horrendous.  And I generally like Ingo.  He was miscast as Thorne.

I feel much the same about the new Taylor.  I loved to look at HT back in the day.  She was so gorgeous.  Later not so much but still she was Taylor. Though I often had issues with the portrayal by everyone on the show that Taylor was a "saint" Tylo did play Taylor with a certain gravitas that Allen totally lacks.  KA does not fit.  And I'm not sure if it is the writing, her acting or the directing but Taylor is obnoxious, silly and comes off as dumb.  The whitewash of her past does her no favors whatsoever.

But in general the stories being told today are so superficial and really make no sense.  Even topics that should be impactful and really emotional come off as unbelievable and too truncated.  There is no build and layering to the plots.  It is very frustrating that the show centers on one story for months to the  detriment of other characters and fans of the same. I have tuned out for months because it is just not entertaining. It is very sad.

  7. Although I like Catherine Hickland, I say no.  Brooke the character has had some icky storylines over the years but KKL imbues Brooke with pieces of her own personality that make Brooke likeable despite some questionable behavior.  Also, Brooke has not been shown to be as mean and spiteful as some other characters so that makes her easier to like as well.

Perhaps it is just me but KKL is probably what I like most about Brooke.

I don't blame Dan Feuerriegel for that... I blame Ron Carlivati for that. Feuerriegel stepped into the role and made it his own, and I actually prefer him to James Scott... but the writing, per usual with the "Writer" is abysmal, boring and tired.

I am not blaming DF for the state of EJ.  I'm saying EJ was recast and is nothing like the original character.  The writing for him is abysmal and I cannot see the purpose for the recast. He was the young Stefano but one could not tell that from the writing EJ has received since his return,

Sorry for mistating bout Days being the oldest soap.  Since I have watched it for so long I probably thought that. LOL

  9. Miss Morgan's status is unclear.  But she is a prime example of how the current writing team wastes talent at Y&RY&R has been a great show in the past.  But now, ugh.  MM's Hilary was a spitfire of a character and even though at times, to me, unlikable, she demanded the audience's attention.  She was interesting.  The current character Amanda is a big, old bore.  Attaching her to Devon was a mistake.  MM had great chemistry with JT's. Billy, whom I despise under this writer.  But they had a spark.  Billy and Lily are dullsville.  Lily has lost her spirit and personality. I always liked CK as Lily. Now I have zero respect for her or her history as Neal's daughter.  Devon has degenerated into Mr. I Can Run Everything and Call the Tune for everyone.  Sharon Case's Sharon has been turned into a coffee pourer when she used to be lead character.  Nikki is a loathsome snob whom I can no longer root for at all. Victor, well, same old, same old comes to mind.

While I realize soaps have to evolve in the 21st century, good stories that honor a show's history are still the hallmarks of an interesting show, watchable show.

As a soap lover, it is just sad to see the state of soaps today.

  10. Days has been excruciatingly bad for so long that I simply don't care anymore.  The recast of EJ is a flop, imo.  He was such a strong and interesting character.  This one is dull as dirt.  He doesn't even drive any stories.  Along with the fantastical, unbelievable plots are the same old rehashed ones from years before.  For me there is just nothing to tune in to watch anymore.  I have many of the older episodes on dvd, which I or friends recorded and most of them are far superior to any single show RC has thrown together.  Even the silly, far out episodes are funny and entertaining-the older ones, I mean.

It is just tragic that the oldest, still standing soap has been reduced to such a state.

  11. I am a big fan of 1994.  Lots of things happened. The beautiful wedding.  The interrupted Sheila wedding.  The exotic Moroccan adventure.  Thorne framed for murder. I even liked the James/Brooke romance.  Dr. Garvin's murder.  Ivanna's murder.  I did like Karen Spencer too as well as Connor.  It is too bad the show could not keep Connor.  Really liked the actor.

What I love most about many of the classic episodes was great plots and lavish sets, many sets.
