I get why Mart H was replaced in 1981 but for some reason I can never get this answered.  
 

why was he never brought back ever again?  Peter Simon left several times. We had Robert gentry in there.  
 

with roger and holly on the canvas why wouldn’t they have at some point asked Mart back? There has to be a reason because as time passed less of those who fired him were even around.  And don stewart eventually visited as Mike despite leaving on bad terms ... 

Do I totally agree with DRW50!  I've only been watching for about a year, but have read a lot on line and watched on youtube.

I thought the Robert/Andy scenes were excellent.  My favorite parts of the show generally surround the Sugdens, in large part because of all that history with the show and between the characters.   It just doesn't get any better than that.  Loved how they used the history of Max dying years ago and Robert leaving ...

I completely agree that everyone babies Andy.   And Robert is the one who veered the car off at the end - not Andy.   I have been pleasantly surprised that Diane and Victoria have been suppotive of Robert, since they usually just baby Andy.

Andy has done LOTS of bad stuff.  I forgot about how he shot Jack and it related to Katie/Robert.   He beat his wife - something Robert never did.   He's a neglectant dad too.   I mean the character is just a MESS.

My take on Katie's death.   She was harassing Robert about an affair.  Why was this any of her business anyway?  If I was Robert, I would have been annoyed with her.  I do think he pushed her on purpose.  And PERHAPS at that moment he did want to kill her.   But that is much different than a planned, orchestrated murder.  Clearly, that is not what happened.  If somebody was blackmailing me that I hated and had a history with, and was going to ruin my life, I could see myself IN THAT MOMENT wishing the person was dead.    It's not the same as if Robert had previously weakened the floor boards so that he could lure Katie in to then kill her.  That isn't what happened, which is why I think in the end it was an "accident".    And in the end, with the accident, Robert was the better person, not Andy - I bet Andy would have left him to die.

Honestly, Andy could have by now killed more people than Sarah - Robert's mother - who is he to judge anyone?

Random observation - while I like the Pete/Ross drama and the Andy/Robert drama I think it's strange the show would have dueling storylines where two brothers are wanting to kill the other ... somewhat odd.

Historical questions:

1) When Robert (old actor) left the show after Max died, did Robert leave because the actor left or what was the reason? Or did the show just decide to write him off?

2) What was going on with Diane and Jack when Jack died (in real life).   It seems like maybe Diane had an affair?  I assume the storyline got derailed because Jack died in real life?  I did see the scenes where Jack dies and Diane reads the letter from him, etc., etc., so I know they "reconciled" the couple when he died.

3) Did Diane ever know Robert at all when Jack was alive?  What was her relationship with Andy and Victoria when Jack was alive?  I do like how Diane is a surrogate mother to the three, but was she with Jack?

4) Is Annie Sudgen still alive?  Is that where Debbie was? Wouldn't she be almost 100?

5) Does Joe Sudgen have children, or is there children he could have that he didn't know about?  Seems like Sudgen cousins of Robert, Andy, and Victoria would be a logical thing to bring in ...

6) Does Jimmy know how about Robert and Andy's causing Max's death?

On a completely different note, was Genna and Ashley's birthday really the same day?  And was it the day they just celebrated?

I found the Genna birthday thing with the new GF bizarre.  Why would you subject the GF to that right when she came to town?  I didn't find it believable at all she would attend.  It would have been more believable if it had been Molly's birthday because then logically GF would have felt she needed to be there and logically Genna's family would also be there -  and still caused discomfort for the new gf.  I am forgetting her name.  Tonya?

Finally, really dislike the Ashley departure story.   I think a character like this is needed.   Is this the actor's choice to leave?  It doesn't seem like it.  Find it more odd when he has two children on the show too who could drive future story.

Wow that's true about Diane? How odd. Andys reaction made sense but Diane's seems odd, as did Victoria's detached reaction. Considering Andy killed Roberts and Victoria's mom, you'd think they'd all be s little bit more open minded.

Am I a bad person that I still feel sympathy for Robert? He's such a complex character with his background etc, although should be better written.

While I dislike how far they've taken Robert, this week's episodes were enjoyable viewing. Actors portraying Aaron and Robert are great and I so hope they keep Robert around. Unlike how I think an American soap would be, even with the plot driven twists, we got to see Robert's reactions portrayed more as a human being and not just a cartoon villain. Maybe it's the actor? And sure others disagree...

The two have great chemistry and I really could see them being like Roger/Holly on Guiding Light. Toxic on so many levels, but so fascinating to watch together.

This was on when I was a kid so my perceptions are what they are - and I don't mean this in a negative way - but growing up I always thought Emma was somewhat mentally challenged/slow. I haven't seen enough clips to know if I just made this up as a kid ...

What is Jennifer telling Amanda at the end?

Only watched part three but wow - never saw most of these characters interact. Interesting seeing Phillip with Hope and Amanda. Didn't realize Bill actually was on beyond Eli Simms pushing him out the window.

Would love to know what was being discussed behind the scenes as I see Pam Long is writing and also know soon many of these characters would be off the show. I remember GL more from mid 80s and on and loved it, but seems like much was lost to get there that could have been kept. GL really does seem like a show that changes drastically every few years...

Yeah this sounds stupid. I started watching this because the Robert/Aaron story was interesting. I liked all the history with this show and them bringing back a Sugden (reminds me of guiding lights decimated Bauer family) - Robert is probably my fave character. What a waste !!!

UK really needs to get over the American Revolution and stop blocking videos for us Americans.

How do you find the promo?

I really like Robert and hope they don't go too far with him. Agree with the comments on Aaron being sick of Chas and Paddy judging him - he basically said as much when he threw their past in their faces. For the most part the dingled gross me out, but chas and Aaron are two of my favorites.

Watching old episodes the one character I keep wanting to watch more of is Carl King. He seemed like a great character and good match for Chas. Seems stupid they killed him off (and also had him try to rape her). Any way he could come back from the dead?

I can't recall who Claudia Dillman was? Johnnys grandma maybe?

Love reading about these old characters. Why was Leslie killed off? And why/when was Paul Fletcher written off? He seemed to last a long time. Why no picture of Mike?

Finally saw some of the clips of the Laurel story. Seems so real. If that actress does not win an award something is wrong!

Does everyone know Vanessa and Adam slept together? I saw old clips so assume this was found out before .. ?

How is David coming back?

Also saw clips from when Donna died. Was she really involved in crime with Ross?

I just watched on YouTube the episode where India learns Floyd killed Andy and plans to kill her. What was the reaction at the time? Having seen Floyd in older shows this seems super out of character/bizarre. Did they just want to get rid of the actor? Who was writing GL at the time?

Laurel story difficult to watch but find the story very believable and her acting top notch. Kudos to the show for mixing such a dark story with more light hearted moments.

Also I really hope that Robert teaser isn't what it is meant to sound like. Aren't robert/Aaron popular? Be odd to dismantle that so quickly.

I like priya and the mom. Dad doesn't seem like a real character yet. Jai is annoying. They should use priya more as she's attractive and seems the most likable.

Still confused on the town set up. Why do most live in connecting homes? What's the deal with home farm? And why is it so normal to steal cars and sell them? . GL watchers I forgot when frank cooper introduced he sold stolen cars. Funny.
