  1. Being a younger viewer -- I started watching as a kid in the '90s, those were all the ones I grew up on. Though oddly, Mark Valley and Stephanie Cameron never jived with me and I still only see Missy/Matt as Jen/Jack, probably because they came back during my high school and college years.

But I'm used to the characterizations of John, Marlena, Roman and Tony from then forward.

  2. Any guesses on how long it will take before fans start talking about John Paul got what he deserved, and crying for Finn because he didn't know what he was doing, and he's the real victim, and he's so so cute? Or how he and Robbie must both secretly be gay, and therefore let's ship them and they're so cute and hot?

    Hmm... 2 weeks?

I'm livid by the interview here: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s13/hollyoaks/interviews/a542587/hollyoaks-writer-jessica-lea-talks-john-paul-finn-rape-storyline.html

What's it like for a family to have a rapist in it? We'll be seeing the story from Finn's side? I liked the character of Finn. This has completely ruined him. I wonder if they'll do a softening of the rape eventually the way they did EJ on Days.

  3. I've actually been liking most of the show as of late -- especially now that Brendan is gone far from my screen. Still don't care about Ste, especially since he's been an ass to George, but oh well. I'm kinda liking John Paul and Doug, but it 1) needs to be moving faster and 2) John Paul needs something to do.

    Really enjoying Clare's return too.

  4. There's no such thing as fun primetime soaps now. They're all very sour and serious, and full of dull people. Revenge was hyped up as the big return to primetime soaps, yet it's stocked with the dullest people alive. So is the new Dallas.

Seriously. It veered into comedy a lot more than soapiness, but that's why I loved Desperate Housewives so much. It was probably the last fun, primetime soap. Now everything needs to be like Revenge with someone solving a murder or a bunch of conspiracies. There's no humor in them, no sex, really no one to root for. I've lost count of who I should care about on Revenge.

And Dallas has some fun double crosses, but I haven't watched any of this season yet beyond the premiere so... I guess that shows how devoted I am to it.

  5. I loved loved Jasmine Guy's "I'm sick of people trying to usurp my authority! I'm not having it!" in her exit. I'm probably due for a series rewatch this summer, I've done it at least four times.

I really miss a fun, soapy primetime drama like this. I feel like this is the kinda show NBC could use to stop sucking right now.

  6. Catching up on Hollyoaks, not having watched that much regularly since JP/Craig left. But I did watch a bit during the Ravi/Kris period some of the Nancy/Lynsey stuff and then I've of course seen this dreadful Ste/Brendan mess. Poor Doug.

But watching this and Days at the same time is making my head spin. Going from JP and this baby to Will and his baby drama and then Will claiming Texas shoved him down the stairs after just living through that Nicole/Jennifer storyline. Good grief.
