  1. According to 8/27/96 SOD, these were the names being thrown around for Sunset Beach:

Vets: Sharon Wyatt, Josh Taylor, Nancy Lee Grahn

Gen X: Kirk Geiger, Paul Anthony Stewart, Kristin Davis, Kristi McDaniel, Paul Kersey

Jonathan Jackson was also rumored to be leaving GH and joining Beach, but Guza said that wasn't likely.

Jonathan Jackson would have been so out of place on Sunset Beach.

  2. Lynn Herring said in some interviews when previewing her ATWT stint. Kelly McGillis I believe was one of the soap podcasts

Jill has been ruined since 2003 but it would have been interesting to see Lynn Herring playing a real bitchy diva a la Jill prior to 1998.

  3. That woulda been interesting

That's who the online rags were reporting at the time. I don't recall Lynn Herring and Kelly McGillis as potential recasts for Jill, do you know where this was mentioned. I can see Lynn Herring being the best possible choice as opposed to the other three, but I can't recall seeing Lynn Herring and Kelly McGillis' names popping up.

  4. Question for DeeeDee, did Bill Bell ever considering bringing back the Foster and the Brooks kids like Jennifer, Chuckie or Brooks or think of making some up that were born off screen to add to the canvas and give Jill more store?

  5. Heard this from someone years ago, but can't remember whether she read it in the mags or got it from her sources (she had some connections):

GL -- Patrick Mulcahey wanted to bring back Amanda Spaulding as Nancy Lee Grahn, but Jill Farren Phelps nixed it.

Really? I wonder if thats true. If so, anyone have any info? She would have been interesting on GL.

  6. In late 1977 Karen was basically let go from the role - she said it was fine with her, as she had asked them to change Tara (mature her, I guess) and they wouldn't.

I think the problem with Jeff and Tara is that they were duplicated by other characters - Jeff by Chuck and to some degree Linc. Tara was fairly unique for AMC in the 70's but they burned through a lot of story with her and someone like Nina, or Donna, who sort of fulfilled the same story purpose, came in. Then by the time story was there which should have brought these characters back, AMC had moved into more glamorous territory.

It also seems like a lot of AMC's roles in the 70's and early 80's were unable to catch on after a popular actor left. It doesn't even seem like they really tried with Jeff (just a few short recasts that went nowhere).

Thanks for sharing that, Carl. Why do you think they wouldn't mature Tara?

  7. It should be.

Y&R still would've been successful (Bill was just THAT good a writer) but the change definitely helped.

It made him push himself instead of resting on his laurels & a lot of the new hires (Stern, Douglas, Ford, Bregman, Maitland, Hadley, Lester, Braeden, MTS, Donnelly, both Davidsons) were BANK from Day 1.

But do you think the cast getting too big with the new additions plus the Brooks/Fosters/Prentis family's would have caused some negative impacts on the style of the show or made it seem like he was just recycling stories with new characters while the old characters were still around?

  8. That was early 89.

Thanks, DeeeDee. Do you know if the clip is still around?

Also, I've always wondered (and I think you'd be able to give a great answer to this)do you think Y&R would have still been successful if Bell didn't write out Leslie, Lorie, Chris, Snapper, Greg, Lucas and Lance?

  9. I also think that one of the reasons Tara disappeared may have been some of KLG's issues - for instance, she was out in 1977 because she wanted the character to change and they didn't. Of course she was probably right.

Can you elaborate more on this, Carl? I've always found it interesting that 2 members of a core family just evaporated the way Jeff and Tara did.

  10. She played Gertrude in an off-Broadway production of Hamlet a few seasons ago and I really wish I had seen it. I'm being naive and closed minded about her ability with Rachel's wicked ways which is unfair since I don't even know her work as Tara. And Lemay had his plans for Rachel anyway so she wouldn't have had to play that for terribly long ayway. Some older fans online once talked about the rumors of AW luring Susan Lucci over from AMC when RS was leaving, so it is ironic to see this news about KLG.

I heard NBC offered Lucci a role on any of their soaps in the 80s. I wonder if that was true.

Its interesting though because KLG tried out for Erica and Lucci tried out for Tara. I could see Lucci as Tara, but I don't think I could EVER see anyone in the role of Erica except for Susan. I wonder though, if Lucci played Tara if she'd still be on today and if the role of Erica would have just disappeared the way Tara did with Gorney in the role.

  11. This is the scene where Phillip "dies."

Carl, thanks for that scene. I've always wanted to see that!

Thanks for posting this, Carl. I've seen this before. The one I was thinking of though was when Jill goes to see Phillip and Katherine and Rex say he's with Nina and the baby and that's when Jill makes the comment about her son being out with that worn out tramp, Nina. It was on YouTube a while back but I guess someone took it down. Maybe it was from 1988 or 89.

  12. I asked this already, but never really got an answer, but after Nikki and Victor divorced and she had Nicholas which spammed from late 1987-1988, What did Nikki actually do for most of 1989? I know she was involved with Jim Grainger, but most of that year seemed like it took a break from Nikki's stories and was mainly about Phillip dying, and That long dragged out Cassandra Rawlins story i keep hearing about?

Are there any clips out there of Phillip dying and Jill from that time? I'd love to see the scenes between Jill/Phillip/Kay and Nina around this time. Also, whatever happened to the clip of Jill saying "You mean my son is out with that worn out tramp." In regard to Nina. I think this was 1987?
