  1. The Bel network doesn't seem to have anything groundbreaking to offer in this.Nothing really stands out in this show.At least Promises to Keep and The Endless Night had something from the beginning to make you want to continue watching the show.BEL's 1st effort at a serial is not impressive.Even though High Society is not a bono fide serial they do have the format and they are doing well for the DEx network and are climbing.

  2. UhOh ! Looks like Miss Olive's Backyard will be cancelled soon. It looks like Promises To Keep,The Endless Night and High Society have made gains in their respective serial formats. Trials of the Heart didn't make a big splash on the BEL network as the new serial.Unless they can get in the 5.0 rating range the show will be around long.I have yet to get into Trials because even the summary didn't hook me. Promises To Keep and The Endless night grew on me better than Trials of the Heart.Looks like Heart won't be around long unless the BEL network retools the show.I hope the DEX has an exciting serial coming up soon.

  3. It looks like the BEL network cancelled "Word on the Street" and "the Little Schoolhouse". Airing Schoolhouse against Viola Townsend and Tony Swift was a big flop for BEL because Schoolhouse lost about half its audience and never recovered from the move.Street was just an unfortunate casuality of BEL trying to get away from information programs plus low ratings.Street didn't even benefit from its much stronger lead-in Tomorrow Today which will be moving into Street's old time slot.I hope Tomorrow Today retains most of its audience so that the new upcoming serial Trials of the heart can have a good start.

  4. Trials sounds like a good concept for a serial. They are giving this show some stiff competition from The Viola Townsend Show and The Tony Swift Show.Even Swift is giving Townsend a run for her money.Swift seems to hold solid ratings even coming on after local programming. It looks like the BEL network is trying its best to get out of last place in the daytime competition. With the DEX network taking 2nd place BEL really has to step up its game.Hopefully for the sake of serial dramas lets hope Trials gets a decent debut rating or can easily go the way of The Little Schoolhouse which suffered bad ratings declines being scheduled against Townsend and Swift. The last thing BEL needs is more ratings woes.

  5. Promises to Keep and The Endless Night need to overtake the #1 and #2 spots because both shows are on fire and they are gaining viewers every month.Ace on the Case is definetely a hit with ALB viewers and not far behind The Endless Night either. You Can bank on It is gaining viewers too.The new ALB game show "riddle me this" debuted to an impressive 5.4 rating.I hope that show can build on its viewership like "You Can Bank On It".The Tony Swift Show dropped 2/10ths of a ratings point.I think this show has potential to make it with its own going audience going up against Viola Townsend.DEX's new serialized dramatic anthology program "High Society" debuted a moderate success at a 4.9 rating. Why doesn't DEX just make Society a full fledged serial .Imagine the possibilities for the DEX network. Our Dog Rex is building strength from 4.5 rating to a 4.7 rating.Maybe it will hit a 5.0 rating in August 1951.The Little Schoolhouse has lost half a ratings point opposite Viola Townsend. BEL made a big plunder scheduling Schoolhouse against Townsend.Schoolhouse went from a 3.5 rating in May 1951 before the move and now in July 1951 is at a 1.9 rating. It doesn't come at a good time when the BEL network is struggling in the ratings.Either move Schoolhouse or cancel it. Word on the Street and Miss OLive's Backyard are also losing ratings strength and miss olive already had lackluster ratings to begin with which makes it's future look gloomy.I'm waiting for these shows to be served cancellation notices too.

  6. It looks like Promises to Keep and The Endless are certified hits.It won't be long before PTK starts to surpass Viola Townsend.PTK increase 2+ rating points which ALB should be more than impressed with. The new "Ace on the Case debuted with solid ratings at a #7 ranking and 6.5 rating. You Can Bank On It's ratings have strengthen by +.8 of a ratings point. On the BEL network "Tomorrow Today" has declined by 1.5 rating points which is not good for a now struggling network.Looks like viewers got driven away somehow.Town Voice has lost 1.1 rating points as well. With The Little Schoolhouse going against Viola Townsend they lost 0.9 of a rating point.Over on DEX they are cancelling the Sing Along With Susan program.I think DEX should have cancelled Puppeteer Playhouse as well since they both tied in the ratings in number of viewers this month.I guess Miss Olive's Backyard is struggling to survive as the lowest rated program on the 3 networks.Unless the BEL network does major retooling to bring up their ratings their new soap might have a hard time developing an audience in BEL is in decline. This might give DEX the advantage to get even stronger if BEL doesn't straighten up because DEX has a serial in the works.

  7. With the Little School House airing against The Viola Townsend show they have dropped from a 3.5 rating to a 2.6 rating losing almost a whole ratings point. Those other viewers must have tuned into The Tony Swift Show.I guess children's programming doesn't do well against Ms Townsend. But Ms Townsend should be nervous about Tony swift because hsi show debuted with solid ratings. With BEL losing the network race to DEX things don't look good for BEL right considering they fell almost 2 ratings points allowing DEX to triumph. The BEL network execs won't have their jobs for long if they do a turnaround to regain their lost ground.DEX's counterprogramming seems to be working since BEL tumbled in the ratings. If DEX continues to build upon their strategy BEL might stay 3rd place forever but can give ALB some real competition.

  8. After averaging ratings separately for the ALB,BEL,and DEX networks for May and June 1951,there has been a paradigm shift in the ratings.By June 1951 when the schedule changes were made the ALB,BEL,and DEX networks experienced ratings changes.ALB kept its #1 spot with averaged rating of 6.8 rating.DEX moved into 2nd place with a 4.1 rating.BEL experienced a big loss in audience and dropped to 3rd place with a 3.9 rating taking a big tumble from a 5.8 rating back in May 1951.That is almost a 2 point drop giving DEX an advantage.DEX has a moderate success in the Tony Swift Show debuting with a 5.5 rating. The Endless Night debuted with a 5.1 rating in May 1951 and now it has a 6.6 rating with hit status written all over it.Mr. Swift can easily give Ms Townsend a run for her money if his audience continues to build.Promises to Keep is really a hit with a 8.8 rating at 3rd place in the overall ratings.Lets hope DEX and BEL will develop serials in the near future. With bel's raings falling maybe DEx can develop a Search for Tomorrow type of soap.

  9. Well, the official word from the networks is exactly that --- to ensure viewer accuracy. There once was a variety of different ways to gauge ratings, but with all networks subscribing to the Nelson method, compairisons can be more accurately made.

In my terms, however, a 10pt. scale is much easier for people to understand than some of those crazy numbers.

Is Symphonic Sounds going to be cancelled anytime soon on the DEX network? I continue to press that issue because 1.2 for a rating is a death sentence for almost any show.
  10. I'm glad The Endless Night has had a moderately successful debut in the May 1951 ratings report.I hope the writers have some twist and turns in the near future to help the show get to the ratings level of Promises To Keep. With PTK and TEN at a 6.7 and 5.1 rating respectively on the ALB network the network executives should see the potential in these shows for the long run.

  11. Even with the new ratings system,"Symphonic Sounds" ratings are getting lower and lower at a 1.2 rating.Yikes.Its good to see The Endless Night debuting in the middle of the pack. That should give it hope of rising higher.Even under the new ratings system "Promises To Keep" is starting to rank higher. Please cancel symphonic sounds.

  12. Louella, when is the DEX network going to cancel its lowest rated program "Symphonic Sounds"? That program dropped to a 1.3 rating which is much lower than the program lowest program on the ALB and yet no cancellation notice yet.Are demos keeping Sounds on the air? They can replace Symphonic Sounds with another viable program format or give the time back to the affiliates. Please Respond

  13. Looks like Promises to Keep is on roll.A nearly 3 point jump in the ratings must be making the ALB network really pleased.Keep the ratings report coming frequently.I hope the soap The Endless Night premieres very soon. Now is the time to premiere now that Promises to Keep is a bona fide hit.
With "The Endless Night getting ready to premiere in THat Wife of Mine's time slot in the afternoon what would happen to that when it's moved to another time slot with it being a ratings hit? It could enable The endless Night to become an instant hit in the time slot since most people would be home by that time from work.If ALB gives the Endless Night the same chance it did Promises to Keep it can be a slod hit, too.I think that's part of why the ALB network scheduled it late in the afternoon to ensure a hit.Miss Olive's backyard is near the bottom of the ratings to start with and the other children's program The Little Schoolhouse gets middle of the road ratings. So Endless Night can easily be a hit or slowly become one.
