"Brookside" was cancelled in 2003, if I remember correctly.

And regarding "Emmerdale," I should have mentioned that I would like to see the 70s episodes of it. I found a site with a transcript and caps from the pilot and it really looks good. It reminds me a lot of "Ryan's Hope."

i checked out this weeks first 2 eps of Eastenders. I cannot believe how haggered Wendy Richard looks now. Especially with that short hair.

The somita drinking story and the father moving near his abandoned son story attracted me the most. I loved Jo Joyner on Doctor Who last year. Lynda Moss should have become a companion,

Oh, I've read a lot about that. It was a Dutch version of Ryan's Hope based on the original story bible by Claire Labine and Paul Avila Mayer, although it seems like most of the original characters are no longer on the show. The show seems like a twilight zone version of RH with stuff happening that would never have occured on the original show, hee.

Here is the vide of the explosion from BROOKSIDE, from 1998.

They did actually explode this for real, and had obviouly one take to it in.

Its not the first explosion, this is the second explosion that happens.

Here is audio only of the first explosion and the end credits...

can't get much cheaper than the original <_<

getting back to the topic of the foreign soaps, I can't believe I forgot to get into the Australian soaps.

I LOVE Home and Away! I've been watching it on and off (sadly, mostly off due to availability issues) since 2001. All of 2006 has been capped and uploaded online and I've seen every episode this year ... loving it. Such a sense of family that I can't find on any other show.

Neighbours ... not a fan. It comes off as far too preachy and afterschool specialish.

I only really get that from Neighbours when they do something really in your face and social issue related. But H&A has been guilty of the same thing (not so much these days because they don't really bother tackling issues anymore).

But in defence of Neighbours, the whole gay thing was handled brilliantly over a period of months on that show with lesbian kisses included. After Lana accepted she was a lesbian, they didn't just drop the story or turn it into an afternoon special. It evolved into a complex kind of love triangle.

When H&A tackled the same issue...pretentious bollocks ensued. It was a two episode guest stint that wreaked of afternoon special and they openly admitted to shying away from a gay kiss or anything that controversial.

I think my main problem with H&A is that (these days at least) they take themselves so ridiculously seriously. At least Neighbours makes occasional light of the OTT storylines such as Paul falling off a cliff and losing his leg or Rob the psycho twin or the Lassiter's explosion.

As far as dialogue is concerned I don't find there to be much between them seeing as they share freelance dialogue writers for both shows. I enjoy both of them but I've watched Neighbours continuously for 20 years which is why I think I prefer the community feel and friendships of that show.

ETA: Here's a preview of next week with Rob deciding to crash his parents' wedding with a gun

I like Neighbours, for me its a family show. It doesnt go ott like every other week, i watch at Australian pace, and the phole physco Robert is excellent.

I do have to say the promos from Network can be misleading, very misleading.

Ain't that the truth. Neighbours used to do it during the Karl/Izzy/Susan storyline making you think Susan had found out the truth about the baby when in fact she was just shocked that Sindi has used the last of the orange juice.

H&A does it too, particularly with the stalker stuff. "5 people will DIE!" Which means one major character, three extras and someone's dog.

The Neighbours preview I've posted is on the mark though. There is a shooting at the wedding (which I assumed was Paul but now I wonder if Katya gets injured too). I know it's not Gail.

Yes i know the shooting happens, from listening closley i have a feeling Katya will jump in the way, or accidently get shot.

"Come on Kat, say something to me" - i assume Katya is shot.

Even the the promos are misleading, they do have that appeal to make sure you do come back for the next episode.

Where are you James F? Im in UK, so i download the eps from a certain website lol

I personally think that no one will actually get shot. Its like when the promo said Robert was literally going to kill Katya, but she slipped on the cliff, and he helped her, they showed a police car turning up - but that police car was infact them turning up to Stingray's car, when he had been drinking.
