Doug Davidson gave a new interview that I think had some interesting tidbits in it, that I haven't seen before. Some things Doug says in the interview are:

He's not coming back on contract and that he was told that was off the table. But he was also told that his character would be treated respectfully.

Mal texted an Associate Producer after he filmed a scene and told him to have Doug come to his office. Doug was told then they were taking him off of contract. Doug said he thought Mal texting the producer like that was kind of weird, and that he and Mal have texted each other in the past. He said Mal told him he was taking him off contract and didn't think anyone else should know, because it wouldn't do Doug or anyone else any good  He said that Mal basically told him that if he didn't agree to the recurring deal, he would probably kill off Paul's character or something. Doug agreed to the deal. Doug then talked about how his apperances tapered off and how he was asked by someone on Twitter if he had been fired and he said "appears so".

He said that caused a firestorm on Social Media and the show reached out and told him they wanted to talk with him, but he was like why bother because he had taped like 4 or 5 shows in like six months. He said they wanted him to come back for a Christmas Miracle storyline ( I think regarding the storyline about Nikki being hit with a car by Reed) but that he told them he wasn't really interested. He said he was told a lot of untrue things by Sony like they had to write him out of shows, because they couldn't reach out to him, didn't know his availability, etc...

He said they treated Kristoff St. John and his character Neil the same way. He talks about how he misses Kristoff and mentioned one of his favorite scenes that Kristoff taped as Neil. About Neil being put in a corner office and realizing that he made it. He talked about how he misses Kristoff.

And he said he spoke to Greg Rikkart recently and will pass along the word that Greg is available and willing to come back. And that Eric Braden was supportive of him. And he talked some about the introduction of the Rosales family and how it seems like it's too much at one time. He also talked about his character was introduced and interacted with Katharine Chancellor.
