I didn't think he was that great of an actor either.....I wonder who he thought were not talented??

I didn’t think so either, and it appeared to be a clear slam on his co-star Martha Byrne whom he didn’t mention. It was when he left around ‘97, and he wound up returning several times. I think he thought he was hot stuff because he booked “L.A. Confidential.”

The fireplace poker "joke" from Hinsey, that, along with the Marcia from Arkansas [!@#$%^&*], made me begin avoiding anything she wrote and eventually helped convince me to stop buying SOD and SPW.

That comment was disgusting and inexcusable. She's lucky she wasn't fired for that. Why WASN'T she ever fired in the years that followed?

How about the Greg Rikkart twitter war with Melissa Reeves for her statements related to Chick-fila....I wonder if they crossed paths on the set?

Hinsey alone could fill out some of these.  For some reason, I followed her Facebook page.. and she said recently that she put a status update up twice for the following things..

1) She didn't understand why the testimonies for possible Russian interference was pre-empted her soaps when she figured if people really wanted to watch them, they could watch it online.

So naturally I said that the future of our country and determining if our democratic process has been violated is much more important then watching a soap opera.  She and some other people didn't take kindly to that.

2) She was mad also about the Mark Zukerberg testimonies pre-empting GH (a show she thinks is the holy grail of soap operas).. saying people should know their privacy isn't guranteed on social media so why waste peoples time (I.e. basically victim blaming).

It was crazy. Even during the weakest years of the ‘90s (and there were some stinkers), ATWT had 10 or more cast members who could act circles around PS. A ridiculous comment. His later interviews were more gracious.

Yeah, I thought he was downright awful when he first appeared. I was like Lily is choosing this guy over Holden?

I was googling the famous Beth Ehlers quote on J.R. Martinez when they were on AMC, and I found this amazing Twitter thread.

More where that came from starting below...

Ironically, more AMC fans seemed to like J.R. Martinez than they did Beth Ehlers.

All that stuff that came out about Kimberlin Brown & Hunter Tylo and their husbands.

Frankly, those four were a little too chummy for my taste.  I kept expecting someone to reveal that they had engaged in group orgies.

LOL me too. Maybe some video of them will be leaked and uploaded to one of those video sharing sites.

There were rumors about Tylo and Brown - there was a soap magazine photo of them spoofing the rumors by hugging and mugging for the camera.

Going back to the older years...

All of the Paul Rauch/Harding Lemay vs George Reinholt and Jacquie Courtney stuff splashed over the magazines. Grandmothers back then must have been aghast.

The stuff with Courtney and Peter Simon getting together and her husband spilling to soap magazines (if memory serves - I may be wrong).

That bizarre stuff where for years and years magazines ran stories about Don Stewart being a bachelor and looking for love (complete with a "date" with Eileen Fulton for Daytime TV) - until by the late '70s he admitted he had a wife and just didn't want to talk about her.

Speaking of Eileen, knowing her marriage ended very badly makes the many, many gushing '70s articles about her and her husband...an uncomfortable read.

Some of the strained and cringe-y attempts to mix '70s trends and news with soap actors, whether it be myriad actors posing with their guitars, talking about therapy, talking about EST, or talking about feminism. The one that is burned in my brain is an actress (I think it was Wynne Miller of Somerset) posing in her kitchen, color photos, as the headline blared something like, "WYNNE MILLER BELIEVES IN LAMB CHOPS, NOT KARATE CHOPS"

A lot of soap actors hooking up while married always was cringe worthy.

Eileen Davidson hooked up with Vincent Van Patten when he was on Y&R. Wasn't he still married to Betsy Russell at the time ?

Colleen Zenk and Mark Pinter. CZ seems to be a bit over the top with all the backstage antics over the years.

That stuff with Jason Brooks/ Melissa Reeves/Scott Reeves.

Robert Kelker Kelly/Lisa Rinna/Kristian Alfonso at Days. RKK always came across as sleazy, self centered, and vain. I picture him always checking himself out in the mirror. Did he ever wear a shirt or at least one that covered most of his body ? ....Heck Days backstage was always a mess along with Y&R, especially in the 90's.

The rumors in the late 80s that Eileen Davidson was a transexual, that soap columnists debunked for several years. From Days, around 1979, newspapers reported that Kaye Stevens had assaulted Susan Seaforth Hayes on the set after Susan called her out for being unprofessional.

I remember that too about ED. Kaye Stevens is nerve grating on those old Match Game episodes.

There was also the one that I used to think was a joke but people wrote into SOD about - whether it was true that Susan Lucci and Robin Strasser were sisters and Phyllis Diller was their mother.

    • I agree with y'all, and I guess that's why I'm easier on soaps and other shows if they don't necessarily get it right. I'm not easy on them enough to still watch or support something I don't like, but I do think that "trying" is worth something. After being excited for a short while, I ended up absolutely HATING Luke/Noah on ATWT and thought they were embarrassing. But other gay men, especially the older ones who'd been watching the show for years and years, loved them. So while they just made me roll my eyes, I understood that they meant more to others. Still wanted that relationship blown to smithereens for something more fun, but y'know. GLEE. I hated it. But what it did for many gay youth can't be denied. I know that someone will reply that there were other majorly problematic things with the show, but my point is that it served tons of gay kids who otherwise would not have gotten that confidence boost or feeling of community.
    • Entering April and...   ...GOOOD this show reeks of propping. I cannot with the loops the writers are writing in to keep Peter around, Why is Dr. O who has went toe to toe in hand combat with Anna...IN A MASK TO BOOT or Carly who has pulled every trick in the book or even Maxie who has fake a pregancy and used to be the crafty schemer herself so scared of this nothing burger of weaksauce son of a GH villain I like? Uh...NO!!!   Yeah, that scene of Cameron picking on Jake was a bad one. WL has done better. That said, I do like there is family conflict in Liz's family. Those boys have gotten along for too long.   So is the next event we are building up to is the opening of Curtis's club? There is enough story building going on at least to have things happen.   I am just sadden that a month ago, there was momentum going on and climaxes and it fell flat in two weeks.
    • I am shocked at you.  LVP is cohosting that new dog show with Rebel Wilson, has VPD still in the works, and at least has one more project in the works I believe if memory serves. And VPR is still in the air...especially now that Kandi is about to start filming that OLG spinoff show. It's why I had to post that tweet. No matter how things go, LVP STAYS hustling. Kyle could NEVER.    And Andy Cokehead's ratings are not much better at times so Twitter can stay pressed. Please register in order to view this content
    • I suppose the premise of “LGBTQ” as this hodgepodge community is what I’m questioning. That one letter of the acronym is interchangeable with the other. I understand it from a political coalition standpoint—strength in numbers—and there’s certainly been overlap in term of cultural spaces, but for the most part, the only thing these letters have in common is that they transgress commonly accepted ideas of gender roles and identities. EDIT: I know they aren’t discrete, mutually exclusive groups. Trans people can be gay, lesbian, bi, etc. as well.   But in general I agree. Soaps are broadcast TV vehicles and have to be as broadly appealing and narratively nimble as possible. It’s why streaming services (or smaller cable networks) that can nurture niche-oriented content are so groundbreaking. A gay-male soap on Netflix or Hulu wouldn’t have to cater to a mass audience and could take more risks.
    • Well on the other hand, if the logic is the community is very broad and diverse so you can't represent it in its diversity, the notion that all that is needed is that there would be *some* representation takes precedence hence the logic here. We also have, frustrated as we may be, to understand the tough spot they are in. If they have budget for thirty contract players and the number of pairings LGBTQ character can have is necessarily limited, LGBT character have a lower return-on-investment in terms of story for a producer. So expecting every strand of LGBT being represented is setting the bar unrealistically high.
